By reilo Go To PostI'm still furious that I had to download network drivers on another computer to complete the Windows setup for my nephew's PC build a year or two ago.
I'm not even sure he would've been able to figure it out on his own. The only reason I knew what to do is because this bullshit has been around for decades.
I went cheaper on my nephews board and didn't realize it didn't have wifi until the day before we were going to put it together. He was going to be away for a couple weeks, so I had to go to microcenter early in the morning and get a network card 😐
The steam deck is a console though. How well does SteamOS scale to any hardware will be a good question.
Also, definitely don't look in the PC thread at all of us having the easiest time with everything (Fucking undervolts)

Steam OS is still more cumbersome than dealing with a console though. I’m sure there’s a percentage of users that have only ever had to click download and play on verified titles, and their experience has been as close to console-like as possible
Then there’s the minefield of unverified titles, some of which work without issue. Some work but require a specific version of Proton. Some don’t work at all. Then there’s configuring graphics options for best playability, which while not difficult is still an extra step of complexity beyond a simple 30FPS/60FPS option.

It a whole lot different for people who didn't grow up with PCs, no doubt. For me, things have never been easier. I had both my recent builds set up and running in two hours, starting from an empty case to Windows 11 with drivers and basic software installed. Everything just works these days.

When viewed through the lens of a newcomer, this stuff is just as confusing and complicated as in the past two decades imo.
And again, it's all the fault of Windows.
Same for me honestly, only hassle I’ve put up with in recent years is modding games on Steam OS since there’s a fair few extra steps required.
Outside of that, my PC is now under my living room TV and I treat is as a console with a web browser.

That just resurfaced a hidden memory. My first GPU upgrade did not go smoothly.
Bought a second hand 560Ti off eBay. My PSU only had one 6pin cable for it, had to use a Molex to 6pin adapter. The PCIE bracket didn’t fit in the cheap stamped steel case and I had to bend it to fit in. The case, not the GPU.

By blackace Go To PostMaybe, but I know folks who have upgraded video cards that I know would have been stumped during the jumper and config.sys era of computing.I think the hardware side with port standards and plain as day connectors, plugs, and brackets is better than ever. I think that part I agree with.
But Windows and dealing with it is a cancer.
Just the phrase "make sure you disabled Windows core isolation for performance" should never be uttered.
I don't know man, every time people complain about the Windows experience I feel like I have accidentally installed a version from an alternate dimension. I've had basically no issues to speak of ever since Windows 7 and whatever weird additions and changes Microsoft implemented over the past decade have been easily reversible and / or removable.
Obviously I would prefer it if the out of the box Windows experience was perfectly tailored to my needs, but that's always been the beauty of Windows, being able to tinker and customize it with 3rd party software where Microsoft's built in offerings fail you.

I'm not replaying that shit. LMAO.
Climb this 100th tower for chadley in 60FPS. Pluck this mushroom in 60FPS. Play this stupid boxing mimigame in 60FPS.

hmm they dont seem very trustworthy. i will wait for the cnet report.
By Laboured Go To PostI would do anything for Chadley in 60fps.Can only hope Chadley is worth it, because Clive... Not for me.
By Laboured Go To PostI would do anything for Chadley in 60fps.Don’t worry he has lots of stuff for you to do.
Lots of things. And if you decide the fetch quest crap he sends you to do isn't worth it, he starts hitting you up for ignoring him.

Leading GOTY votes atm innit?
I haven't played it, enjoyed the first one though
It is. Which ... I mean whatever. Game has a lot of promise, but the fetch quest and insane amount of minigames (then hiding all the good gear / materials behind those fetch quest and mini games) really kept me from loving the game. Loved the combat and the world they build. Thought the dialog was better than the first. But they built this wonderful world and then don't reward the player with exploration of that world. The side quests (not chadley stuff) was good too. Solid 7/10 game for me.
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostLeading GOTY votes atm innit?its better than the first one. Most of the complaints are from people that went down the chadley rabbit hole. If you just do some of the stuff as you come across it and don't try to platinum it you'll be fine. Its still a massive game.

sure you can avoid the chadley stuff but it doesn't stop him from flapping his annoying fucking gums every 5 minutes.

"Cloud, you haven't been doing the missions I gave you. I'm sure you can find the time"
damn looks like PSSR is actually really good. Looks sharper than the base ps5 quality mode(native 4k)
Rebirth was a very poorly optimised game so the actual strength of Pisser is yet to be seen for a game with a decent floor.
The wait for a proper hands on analysis continues.

I like Horizon, but I think Guerrila could make a really special Killzone game with the lessons they've learned these last two gens.
They made 4 Killzone games, only one of them is decent. Then again, people still watch Alien, Terminator, Jurassic Park and Star Wars films.

The PSP and Vita games were good. Killzone 2 was okay. Rest? trash.
I washed away my desires to buy a Pro post announcement but the PS1 colours are pulling me back in. Fucking Cerny.
