i feel for them.
Who's gonna tell them about the very common HDR raised black levels issue and the inability to do anything about it on console?
The irony! It is you, sir, who've experienced the deepest of blacks far less frequently than you imagine! #blacked
Alright, enough about this nonsense, back to Outlaws I go.

By HottestGrapes Go To PostForget it, new page. New vibes.I have a sneaking suspicion there's a disk version the assholes at Sony are keeping buried.

By Dazenheimer Go To PostI have a sneaking suspicion there's a disk version the assholes at Sony are keeping buried. That would be extremely dumb. Why sell a digital version with a disc add-on if they had a disc version as well?

It's the same drive as the slim.
By Laboured Go To PostIf they have disks at all next gen then it will be done this way from now on.
Microsoft tried to free them from discs in 2013, but the console bois revolted.
By Laboured Go To PostIf they have disks at all next gen then it will be done this way from now on.I would much prefer an external disk drive you connect via a USB cable.
Don't all PS5 games install on the ssd by default and the disk is basically only used for copy protection when you start a game?

you get a disc version, so you can resell your games and buy them used, to avoid the insane cost of a console games these days

The disc is DRM, which actively hurts the consumer.
You can sell it on, which actively hurts the industry.
It’s lose/lose. Cast your physical games aside.

By WoodenLung Go To Postyou get a disc version, so you can resell your games and buy them used, to avoid the insane cost of a console games these daysI know about resell value, but a lot of people still hanging on to physical media are doing it for "preservation" or more likely, just to have a displayable collection.
But sure, keeping some value is -I guess- the ultimate point. Just wondering the mechanics of playing off the disc alone when you're always at the mercy of some server anyways.
By HottestGrapes Go To PostCast your physical games aside.I would love to cause I dislike the clutter, enjoy the convince of digital, and my kids are very careless with physical games (those fucking switch games can disappear very easily). Having said that there is a very high chance trusting these mega corporations is going to work out poorly.
By Zabojnik Go To PostDon't all PS5 games install on the ssd by default and the disk is basically only used for copy protection when you start a game?well yeah, no point to stream data from the blu ray when even an HDD is faster at it.

The only physical copy I have this gen is Elden Ring's collector's edition, and I didn't even open it lmao.
I think the last physical game I bought was Ring Fit Adventure and that’s mostly because it came along with the accessories required to play the game.
The last one I bought was a second hand copy of Demon’s Souls remake, and it didn’t even come with a box.
Pretty sure most PS5 games can be played from the disk install without a patch. Not sure that's true elsewhere
By Dazenheimer Go To PostSlaves to your digital overlords.I mean, that's the case now with all the consoles, even if you have the disc. It's just a license, not ownership. With that said, there are always alternative methods to acquire and play reasonably popular games at little or no cost. The only sticking point woud be online activation schenanigans, but that would affect disc users, too. (e: whoops, thinking too pc-centric. modern consoles are locked down pretty good now so you have to wait for an emulator to reach good compatibility or something or pray and hope for some kind of "homebrew" hack)
Willing to have a future where you own nothing.
Scust.
I buy and rip all my movies and tv shows despite them also being licenses, but that is more of a convenience and value added thing since the high seas often offer only compressed files and maybe missing some of the audio streams I would like and also generally don't have special features. So I rip them and host them on my home Plex server (which I need to setup a backup of at my partner's mom's place in case our house catches on fire or something).
If you want real game ownership or preservation, then you're on PC on DRM free platforms. Or curating only super retro stuff.
Everywhere else you don't own shit.
Everywhere else you don't own shit.
Having physical media isn’t that high of a priority for me. I used to buy all my movies on physical since there’s actual benefits from a dedicated media player vs streaming, but it’s not worth the effort to me anymore.
With the exception of my Switch, I purchase all my games digitally and I’ve never had any of them taken away from me. If any of them were, I never noticed which means I don’t care about the game anyway

Wow. Much analysis.
According to the PS BLOG:
The planned 40 to 50 games that get PS5 Pro upgrades at the hardware's Nov. 7 launch will focus on 4K and 60fps upgrades across the board, but also have a laundry list of other graphics boosts including new volumetric lighting and effects, richer graphics, more on-screen background characters, and modes that can ramp up to 120fps or 8K gaming. I played Gran Turismo 7 in an 8K mode and a 4K mode that added all sorts of extra ray-tracing effects. Much like PC games, Cerny said the Pro could spark a range of extra gaming modes.

Xbox Series S paved the way. 🐐
DF: Closest equivalent GPU to a PS5 Pro is the RTX 4070 and building an equivalent PC would cost far more
Let me check those GS trade in deals again. Gonna get a RTX4070 PC build for 300 bucks
It being amd a 7800xt is probably more of a favourable comparison here, so a nice little 1440p machine
Sony games on a Steam sale.
Sony attempting to appease the PC audience because they know they’re the only Gamers who can afford $700+ for a gaming system.

From DF:
The Last of Us Part 2 - 1440p internal resolution at 60fps in this PS5 Pro Mode (same as PS5 Performance Mode) with improved image quality due to PSSR
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - Between 1440p and 1800p internal resolution (roughly the PS5 Quality Mode at 40fps) at 60fps in this PS5 Pro mode with the same settings as the PS5 Performance Mode and using PSSR to bring it up to 4K
Alan Wake 2 - Two modes shown (864p at 60fps & 1260p at 30fps) which is the same as the base PS5 modes and they presume it's using PSSR and not the FSR in base PS5. 60fps clip has SSR but the 30fps clip could have RT.
Horizon Forbidden West - resolution didn't look 4K. They presume it's not using PSSR but hard to tell. Thinking it is using 4K checkerboard but again hard to tell. PS5 vs PS5 Pro has the Pro with higher detail.
Hogwarts: RT reflections looks better on the PS5 Pro but has some visual noise in the background. RT shadows might be mixed with SSR but look to be an improvement over base PS5. 30 fps in the footage but the presume it'll have 60fps modes as the base PS5 has it.
Gran Turismo 7 - RT reflections in game appear to be quarter resolution (1080p). 8k mode. Lower resolution (1188p) in the PS5 Pro footage and probably using PSSR to bring it up to 4K where the base game without RT reflections is a Native 4K. RT looks better than Forza Motorsport.
Dragon's Dogma 2 / Assassins Creed Shadows - DG2 looks to be running at 60fps and might be using PSSR. ACS looks to be running at 864p at 60fps
