By Hitch Go To PostA ps5 🌝I mean, it's literally the same fucking CPU, so you're not wrong.
It's the equivalent of putting a new GPU on your PC upgrade wise, so anything above a 4070 should do the same job. And that's a $500 card these days. I guess it's also like going from 3200 to 3600MT/s RAM, and "adding a 1TB" drive.
But just to be clear, comparing a PC and a Console is always a dumb thing. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, and people presumably are buying each to play completely different things.
These comparisons always seem to come from the perspective of a: Only buys: FIFA, Madden, COD, Fortnite and AAA games general audience, which I believe is completely untrue for PC as a platform, and even for the Console guys eager for the comparison to be made.

By Dazenheimer Go To PostNot to yuck your yum, but a similarly performant PC will cost substantially more.I did say "a decent gaming PC" tbf
By Dazenheimer Go To PostDo we have the full spec of the pro confirmed?
By Dazenheimer Go To PostI see a few TBDs there.I pulled it from a recently updated article but yeah, shit list.
Speaking of specs, it does seem quite strange that Cerny headed the “technical presentation” and skimmed over the vast majority of technical specs. Only really touched on the GPU and WiFi 7.
No mention of the CPU, or RAM beyond it being % faster. No real details on PSSR despite being one of the three key selling points.

No mention of the CPU, or RAM beyond it being % faster. No real details on PSSR despite being one of the three key selling points.
Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.
no concrete numbers have been released.
GT7 does look nice with RT in game. Price is still wild though. The trade in deal has to be at least 400 for me to even consider.
Good thing I dont mind 30fps. Taking that pristine native image quality every time.

By Patriotism Go To Post70 games getting pro upgrades but mandem can't give us 60fps patch for bloodborne.what if i told you that a bloodborne remaster is already completed? #insyder
By bud Go To Postdon't attack me, but i think the pro looks cool. The Adidas strips won you over?
If the PS6 isn't coming out until like 2030 and ND and Bluepoint do some PS5 only magic. Maybe, but that's like 2026 before I even entertain this thing
By FortuneFaded Go To PostYou don’t have to buy the PS6 when it first comes out eitherWrong
By FootbalIFan Go To PostDo we know the size of the PS5 pro? Surely can't be as atrocious and big as the standard ps5i think it's a smidge bigger than the slim and smaller than the OG.

Typically I buy at launch and never upgrade mid cycle
yh, for what ever reason, CNET always has the inside track with Sony. Might be a CES thing.
Anyway, DF are overrated and not as knowledgeable as you they portray.

Crap technical presentation, when it's not technical at all. Would rather have stuff that explains how it works. I'm getting it on release though.
They write fluff pieces very well, and are complimentary on dealing with companies' products. It's what Sony wants when the price is $699.
edit: The big question for me is how good PSSR can be while working in tandem with FSR's framegen.

Back in the day, the first PS2 I ever saw before it was imported officially, was at a grey market stall. They had it up for sale for $20,000mxn which at the time was around $2,000 USD. I remember thinking how outrageously laughable that 20,000 number was scribbled on that electric yellow cardboard sign.
There's a big chance that, officially, the PS5 Pro retails here at more than $20,000 when it comes out. Today that's only ~$1,000. The "official" price for the launch PS5 was already $15,000 ($750) and considering we're, I'm told, in the middle of a recession and with so much political and economic uncertainty, plus exchange rate volatility plus it being a presidential election year in both countries, the 20k price prophecy of a PS console will finally be fulfilled.

By inky Go To PostWould you say, Sony are taking the PiSSR?shades of yellow that you can only see thanks to HDR.
They need to take a page on how Nvidia does it. Most of what Nvidia presents is largely fluff, but they do it in such an exciting way that people can't help but get hyped.

CNET handsish on
no cap thought that was ricky berwick in the thumbnail for a second when scrolling by
a man who is underrated and knowledgeable
what's wrong with digital foundry? Alex goes a little overboard sometimes but its usually good stuff
There’s nothing new in that video btw. Just John throwing shade at CNET because they got exclusive coverage over DF. Lmao
I'm glad they point out how dumb of Sony it is to have their first independent coverage put out in 1080p 30 YouTube videos, making it basically impossible to discern a difference with your own eyes.
A lot of people (dumb people imo) take issue with DF slowing footage down, and zooming in on detail at the pixel level when talking about games, differences, rendering resolutions, upscaling techniques, etc.
Peeps somehow think that they have to zoom in like that because otherwise there's no visible difference, which they then find unfair such a big deal is made out of, like they're out there hurting games and just being toxic. (Big "your eyes can only see 24fps anyway" energy imo). But like DF constantly have to point out, the logical reason is to do it like that because even 4K videos at the highest bitrate allowed on YouTube absolutely destroy detail.
Alex consistently has to go on Twitter and post direct capture footage because sometimes the nuance is gone and crisp textures or detailed shadows come out muddy in the final rendered video online. Seeing the video analysis they did of Star Wars Outlaws it might not look that impressive, but seeing the real thing at max settings with RTXI in person would make anyone a believer, and that's hard to convey on video.

I mean, a decent gaming pc that can run anything above 1080p at 60 fps consistantly will cost more than 1000$, probably more than 1500$.
So if a Pro gives me that for 700$, hellnyeah.

A 1080p/60 machine can be made for 1000$ sure.

I was lazily checking last night and I think you can buy a prebuilt gaming rig for around $1400 give or take that has a 4070 in it. Lazily checked reviews of a 4070 playing ragnarok, and it was doing 4K at just above 60 FPS.
Kibner detailed a path for a self built version, that would run better than this pre-built rig and cost probably around 1K after tax.
