Apparently he's coming in as the 3rd choice striker, but he definitely wasn't ready last season. Scored 32 goals in the U18 but I think the coaches wasn't convinced he could make the jump to U21 with the few minutes they gave him.

He started basically all the games while KDB was out (which coincided with Haaland's injury as well) but when they were healthy he didn't play quite as much. I think I read Alvarez played the most minutes of anyone at City last year and he played the second most games (53 vs 54 for Foden), but he's understandably a bit worried his play time would go down this season. The main thing though is he seems to want to play as a striker and City did play two up front with him and Haaland a number of times, but it's obviously not a certainty every game.

Alvarez didn't play the most minutes, 5th in the PL and barely appeared in the CL. FA cup appearances not enough to make a difference. I expect the lack of CL time was what convinced him to go
