By Perfect Blue Go To PostJust completed System Shock (2023). Fuck me what a game. When is the remake of 2 coming?Remake was indeed brilliant, but it's hard to describe how groundbreaking this shit was at release. I'm still sad we lost Looking Glass Studios.
SS2R is probably years out. I'm just glad the license went to Nightdive and isn't being held hostage in some burocratic hell.

SS2 is (even) more of a horror game and definitely a better rpg, with better storytelling and considerably less clank. It came out 6 years after SS1, by which time fps games had gained many of today's standard features. SS1R implemented a lot of those comforts already, admittedly.
It also represented a big jump in visual quality, which is something that will probably be lost, if Nightdive stick to the same engine and style or rather budget. I'm all for them keeping it sustainable and the game will be great regardless, but at the same time ... imagine a SS2 remake with big money.
Shodan have mercy.

By Perfect Blue Go To PostWhat do you think of the Bioshock games? I bought the remastered set on Xbox a few weeks ago and eager to play them, though I suspect they’re only superficially borrowing from SS.SS2's lead writer and designer is Ken Levine, who went on to do Bioshock, so the latter's borrowing goes considerably deeper, heh.
It is very much its own brilliant game, though. It has arguably one of the best settings and some of the best world building in videogames ever. It has a way more pronounced philosophical core compared to the SS games and it's not shy about its ideas, which as you can imagine didn't sit well with some people. Or doesn't these days anyway. I hope you love/hate Ayn Rand.
It's also considerably more direct and action-y than SS1/2 and offers tons of combat options, which might also be a negative, if you're not into it.
And that intro. Iconic.
Bioshock 2 is more of the same, some consider it a better game, which it might be, but it wasn't nearly as impactful as BS1 for me. Levine finally went too far up his own ass with Infinite. The combat, which is based on battle arenas, isn't very good. However, there's still a lot to like (or, again, hate) in terms of its lofty setting, story and the philosophical musings that permeate the (over)extended narrative experience.
