Still concerned we’re only looking to sign Dutch players. Ten Hag with too much influence still? Zirkzee’s not special.
Insane if he doesn’t start. He’s fit to play? He’s fit to start. Would rather do that and take him off after 60-70 than the alternative.
By Willkiller Go To PostShaw getting 40 mins last night was huge. Still doubt he can start the next game but the midfield looked so much more comfortable with him there

I genuinely thought that England wouldn't make it past the QFs. I still say that Southgate's man management over these talented players is utterly shite, and he's been carried by individual brilliance. But if he's going to shithouse his to another final, then good luck to him.

But if he's going to shithouse his to another final, then good luck to him.I don't agree with this take. I don't you are defining man management, it's usually defined to be the managers ability to keep a team and players happy which is Gareth's strength.
The line about being carried by individual brillaince is inline with what I've seen online about "Saka saving England" yesterday. I don't that's necessarily true. Let's go through the goals:
1) The goal against Serbia was exactly what the formation was supposed to do. Saka on the right-hand side, either cutting in or this case using his right foot to cross and Bellingham being in the number 10 position allowing him to venture further forward and join Kane in the box. if Bellingham is back with Rice as some suggested, he might not have been in that position.
2) The goal against Denmark came from Gareth sticking with Walker for his pace which is what created the chance. If Trent was in the right back position instead, I don't think that goal comes about.
3) Jude's overhead kick is the one moment of individual brilliance that you suggest. Although Gareth did keep him on the pitch in spite of many calling for him to be subbed off because he knows how talented he is
4) Kane's goal was assisted by Toney who was brought on for exactly that purpose, to be an aerial threat in set pieces
5) When rumours of a back three came about, everyone predicted Saka on the left but Gareth kept him on the right precisely so he could take on the left back and do exactly what he has been doing the last few matches.
Perhaps I should have said his in game management rather than his man management. I just feel that win, lose or draw, England have such talent that should be playing a better brand of football. But that's might be just me. 🤷🏾♂️
By Cleff Go To PostHave never watched Zirkzee, but seems to be a decent player judging by the online reaction. €40m is a lot, but also the standard price for someone with a bit of talent.he was Serie A young player of the year.
Hopefully we move on to De Ligt and Ugarte next.
Signing a top target of ours before pre season starts.. I am afriad.
By JesalR Go To PostWhen was the last time a Serie A striker came to England and did well?Topher?
We need a squad striker now (not later) and ~£34m for a decent young striker is really not terrible in this market (particularly on our budget). I'm not blown away by it by I can see the logic in it.
My main concern is that the profile of player we're going after very much suggests ETH is not going to be changing his game plan much next season.

As Jonathan Wilson said today, Southgate is better at the management side of football management than the football.

One of the most amazing players I've seen in my lifetime. Fucking injuries stopped us from enjoying his unique talent on the pitch

I'm not blown away by it by I can see the logic in it.I've read that Zirkzee can be used similar to how Martial was. Dropping deeper to hold the ball up, then playing it to a forward that's running beyond him. Hojlund can do that, but I think he's better as one of the runners.

Ugarte seems like an ideal Casemiro replacement. Will tackle, pressure and screen all day but isn't a particularly good passer. Still need another midfielder that can pass from deep. Can understand those stories about him not being a player Luis Enrique wants.
This graph is fron 2023, but does show that Ugarte is very good at the defensive side.
Incredible - but not surprising - that Mikel "Tets" Arteta hates Ramsdale's progressive views this much.

Tremendous talent. Who probably spent half his career injured
By Laboured Go To PostEven French football fans are tired of all the Le Pens.
Crazy that Olise went for 45-50m when it earlier looked like there would be a bidding war between PL clubs taking it much higher.

By Laboured Go To PostArsenal fans right now:
Zirk looks like he'll fit in well based on the clips of his playstyle. Towards the end of the season it looked like we were using Bruno more as the False 9 after dropping Hojlund to the bench and it helped utilise Rashford/Garnacho/Amad more as the runners from out wide. Team will still have issues vs those that sit back. Wouldn't mind seeing us try a 442 at some stages with both STs.
Looking like we'll line up next season with the following XI based on the likeliest signings happening:
Rashford - Zirkzee/Hoj - Garnacho
-------- Bruno - Mainoo -------
---------------- Ugarte -----------
Shaw - Martinez - De Ligt - Dalot
----------------- Onana -------------
Ideally need to get Casemiro, Sancho, Greenwood (at least) out the door. Could allow for another midfielder to come in or winger.

Wonder if Kadioglu is going to stay at Fener with Mourinho or leave for the Arse? Man had an incredible Euros.
