Clingan is currently +11 in a game where almost every other Blazer has a negative +/-.
Officially a worse offensive performance than Cam Whitmore yesterday. He needs to just start cherrypicking lol.

Clingan is extremely fluid rolling to the basket, he plays much faster than he is (except in transition like I said earlier).

There were people on the NBA Draft subreddit predicting he was going to put up Chet's numbers from last year BTW (to heavy upvotes). Obviously it's only summer league, but I don't see how that's possible.
Clingan is a crazy watch because the whole time he’s out there you’re like “this is easily the best player on the floor” and then he finishes the game with 8 points.

And he never forces anything so this is kinda what it looks like when the shot isn't falling. It's not like he was being passive, he was aggressively rolling to the rim and sealing his man, he just rarely got the ball and struggled a bit to finish.

I think a lot of it is just guards that are doing tryhard stuff for a contract instead of moving the ball. That and not passing to his shot pocket properly when he finally does get a touch.
But also yeah, I agree. He’s a couple years of strength and conditioning coach away from being a beast. Just smart and knows how to use his size really well. That blocked 3 was great.

13 blocks, 8 fouls through 3 summer league games for a big is mighty impressive. Usually they foul a ton.
EDIT: 0 this game? Okay!
By reilo Go To PostThat block on the Carrington three in the closing minutes was *chef's kiss*He had several more blocks that just weren't added to the box score for whatever reason, he was going crazy tonight. That or an awful lot of people were airballing jumpers after a close contest by him.

i expect missi to get more g-league than nba minutes this sesason. he doesn't know enough about his own skills to be effective. when he plays in summer league next season, he needs to be a completely different (and better) player or the team just needs to move off him.
karlo matkovich i'm confident in being a third string center this season. he'll have to play above that for this team unless some big roster moves happen, though. he commits dumb fouls when contesting shots and isn't agile enough on defense. he has excellent passing vision and throws some good passes, too. a good alley oop finisher and just enough skill on the block that he has to be guarded by someone of similar size.
look, it ain't much, but it is nice when a big has enough dribbling skill to go full speed the length of the court without tripping over themselves to get a transition dunk:
(these kinda double as Clingan defensive highlights lol).
I don't know how much I actually agree with what he's saying (don't think he would have benefited much from joining the Ignite, for instance), but the pre-draft concerns about whether he actually cares about winning vs. playing the way he wants to seem pretty real.
A more nuanced pre-draft take.
A summary of my thoughts on Karlo Matkovich, so far: I think he has proven he is a legit third center. Potential to be a good second string backup. Potential disaster as starter. This is a huge jump from last season.
His offense looks repeatable against better players. Screens will translate. Ability to catch and finish on oop attempts will translate. Has enough skill and touch on the block that he has to be guarded by someone that isn’t much smaller than him. Great passing vision and touch from the top of the key to the 3pt line on the wing.
His jumper looks better but I haven’t seen enough to trust it. He commits dumb fouls when contesting shots. His conditioning needs to be better. He lacks the strength and tenacity to be better than a mediocre rebounder. His agility on defense isn’t good enough.

To give Sarr some credit, he at least *moves* pretty well offensively. Everything looks fluid and he's not shy. Those are pretty big foundational requirements for being elite offensively. The shots just aren't dropping despite decent form (the Bronny James special) and the decision-making close to the basket has been really poor.
Someone like Drew Hanlen could have a big impact on him.
Embiid foul baiting and the ref not calling it, has a wide open layup and decides to swing into Jokic and blows the easy layup
