By Rob Go To PostTaking it back a moment, has a second round pick ever gotten a 4 year deal? I though they were all 1 and 1 with a team option or somethingA few off the top of my head just last draft:
Toumani Camara
Trayce Jackson-Davis
GG Jackson Jr (converted from a 2-way)
By You got 14 bricks right there? Go To PostKuzma was actually solid with them tooForget Kuzma, they could've still drafted Reaves and you'd have a SG-SG to slot into the backup role still.
By reilo Go To PostA few off the top of my head just last draft:Wolves also gave Leonard Miller a four year contract. It's a worthwhile gamble for a team up against the cap/apron with a guy that they think can develop.

It makes sense to do that if it's a relatively high floor role player that you still think can develop some.
I get it for Bronny from a financial standpoint - guarantee you the South Bay Lakers just sold out the entire season because of him. But also that's a very inefficient guard with recent health scares. if it was anybody else it should definitely be a non-guaranteed 2-way.

By rodeoclown Go To PostWolves also gave Leonard Miller a four year contract. It's a worthwhile gamble for a team up against the cap/apron with a guy that they think can develop.Yeah it's not a bad idea especially if you want to secure a good talent but only have a lower second round pick, since you can use the promise of more money to deter other teams from picking a guy (though honestly, I have no idea why that works... if a team calls your bluff is the guy really going to go work at Enterprise Rent A Car for four years?). Just think it's silly to do for someone like Bronny James who nobody else wanted to use a second on in the first place. Feel like it would have been better for everyone involved if they just let him be a UDFA (so the Lakers could draft someone who actually deserved it) and then negotiate a contract that way like a million other players do who want to play for the Lakers.
Can't those second round contracts also be renegotiated? Feel like I've seen that a small number of times.
I see a ton of crapping on Pelinka but also 2025 is the last year they owe a first. Plan is probably to squeak into the playoffs this season, trade AD in the following offseason and fire up the tank for 2026 when Bron is 42. Seems a reasonable transition plan to me. Got a young coach and some young(ish) players that'll be good tank commanders.
They should really at least duck the second apron somehow this year though - that's a lot of damn money for a team that's gonna get housed in the first round if health luck breaks their way.

See, this right here is a thing they absolutely should get crapped on for. Bron's f**kery shouldn't be a thing you hang your entire tax bill on.
"Take a discount" is just code for "put pressure on them to continue to spend on a guy that's going to milk you for every penny you can spend before imminently retiring."
Is there another sucker out there that'd pay Bron 51 million? Probably but they'd be dumb to do so and it's probably more of an uphill battle than you might think- probably not worth the stress of that million dollars.

They do but AD should net them some firsts when they flip him- so not end of the world stuff.

Edgecombe led the Bahamas team in scoring again in only 28 efficient minutes, and beat back a late comeback by Poland. Officially intrigued. My biggest initial question is whether he provides anything beyond scoring.

Definitely playing like a star and I love the way he's going after offensive boards (incredibly valuable for small guards like we've talked about). Not sure if 2 blocks and 2 steals is accurate but an 18 year old easily bullying adults is usually a good sign.

By reilo Go To PostNeed Edgecombe to grow 2" please
If that kid was 6'7" or so he'd be terrifying. Looks like a star regardless already. Sucks the Blazers are probably out of the guard business because there's a lot of really damn good ones that fit the profile next year.

I know the competition is suspect but the Turkish team hasn't even come close to scoring on the French team on anything but free throws, lol. That defense is scary.
Also it's insane to watch Wemby play with a legitimately great player in Gobert, please get him some help Spurs.

Edgecombs HS has become a D1 factory, same with Stepinac, I should have gone to some of his games. His school is about 35 mins from me, maybe I'll check out Melos son next season since he plays there.

They're really playing Wemby at the 4, gonna be a nightmare to score on.
Also why isn't Sengun playing for Turkey?

Also, an update on what I said earlier: when Gobert and Wemby checked out of the game (with 3 minutes left in the first quarter), the Turkish national team still did not have a made field goal.
Wemby and Gobert just checked out of their second stint and I think Turkey still has zero made FGs when they're both on the court.

Not sure I trust a tweet from someone who doesn't understand math.
110%. Preposterous.
By You got 14 bricks right there? Go To PostWemby effect is that you can't go to the rim and you gotta put more arch on your 3 than usual.Turkey still has either 0 or 1 made FG when he's on the court I think.

There's just nothing they could do, they tried to screen him and then he'd just sag off the ball handler a little and still get a great contest or block the shot. And if he went with the screener the ball handler couldn't drive to the rim, just diabolical.

This is why Knecht fell to 17.

Meanwhile, poor JJ (guaranteed contract) is out in LA like "so we start this play setting a back screen for Bronny..."

Closer international three point line as well means it's like one step for him to get from the key to contest on a three.
