By Perfect Blue Go To Post70m lmaooooInnit
Is 70m bad? He’s good, he’s young, he’s PL proven, he can play numerous positions and he’s homegrown.
Seems fine to me in a world where Fofana, Maguire, De Ligt go for the prices they did.

I think the only red flag, which isn't fair to the player, is that if United are interested and willing to pay that sum, he might not be that good.
But he has been a 70m player up to this point given where the market is.

Ineos really need to get moving on the sales first and then start buying.
Next six weeks are crucial.

50m would be fair based on the season he had, 70 is pushing it. But if I was dealing with Man U, I'd also be saying 70.
By Laboured Go To PostI would too but they need money just to breathe so we should idk behave as such.Yeah but while you're playing hardball with the price, Chelsea swoop in and you end up buying Badiashile

By bud Go To Postlike him a lot. great ball-playing dmf. lots of cheeky interceptions as well. he needs to get quicker/improve his decision-making more, but that’ll come with time, i think. he’s only been playing at the highest level for a year and a half, so the abyss would be a great next step.I forgot to ask you, what is his penalty taking ability from 1-5 out of 10?

Really hope we get Branthwaite. He's a highly rated young defender that we know has the physical attributes to excel in the PL. We've been badly lacking high quality athletes.
I like the targeting of him and Yoro. Already shows the shifting in priorities to going after those elite younger players which we know INEOS want to do.

Laurie Whitwell has an article in the Athletic going over some of the issues United had last season. The big problem, tactics aside, still lies in player power. Varane and Casemiro are singled out as the big drivers of discontent there. Questioned Ten Hag's iterative training methods and said they preferred that under Ancelotti where they had more freedom. Mentions that players and staff were very sceptical about the timing of Casemiro's injury before the FA Cup final.
Confusion over tactics is a big one as well. Players weren't sure when to drop deep to build possession, or push higher up. Onana seemed to take it on himself to start launching long as he wasn't comfortable passing to defenders he viewed as poor on the ball. But that left a deep defence, too far away from midfielders to pick up those second balls. Which led to a lot of those transition chances we conceded.
Injuries and poor recruitment fucked with a lot of plans. Ten Hag wanted us to play that high line, high press game, but Martinez missing the season ruined that idea. He was viewed as someone who could press higher up to win the ball and then play a good pass to a forward to break lines. Varane was someone who didn't have that skill and preferred playing deeper.
Ten Hag wanted Rice for that transitional game, but the hierarchy were slow to contact West Ham. By the time they inquired Man City and Arsenal were already miles ahead. United's recruitment came back with Mount as a potential signing instead.

[Manager] wanted [highly unrealistic signing]. Instead, the transfer team suggested [player who shares absolutely zero attributes].
If this was true, why didn't Ten Hag suggest an alternative. Surely he knew that Rice was not going to happen? Why did he accept Mount as a substitute? Did he not know anything about him? How?
Branthwaite looks really good but anytime I see a player excelling in a solid defensive structure like Dyche plays there is always a chance someone getting suckered
Feel like most of the problems in midfield stemmed from assuming that Casemiro's second half of his first season was a dip in form, when he'd actually gone full Fabinho and lost his legs and his mind overnight.
By sohois Go To PostI swear stories like this always come out for struggling managersThere's probably an element of that. We were definitely after Rice though. It was reported last season that we had contacted West Ham with a player + cash offer which was dismissed immediately.

There must have been another alternative suggestion after failing which we don't know about. We also know there are historic issues between United's recruitment team and various managers. Both sides wrestling for control against the other. And it's been proven that Ten Hag doesn't have the most in depth knowledge of what's out there either.
How do Braithwaites numbers stack up in terms of being on the ball and proactive defending? If that stuff can even be judged from playing in a Dyche team.
I've seen enough of him to think he'd be a very good signing for Man Utd, but not enough to know his potential.
Think Tarkowski was miles out in front of everyone else in the league for winning headers and duels in both penalty areas.

Wasn't Rice nailed on to join Arsenal pretty much while West Ham were lifting the Conference League trophy?

One player being injured blew up the entire tactical plan for the season?
By Willkiller Go To PostOne player being injured blew up the entire tactical plan for the season? It's what the article implies anyway. I can sort of understand where they're coming from. Martinez is by far the most aggressive defender we have and comfortably the best passer. Varane doesn't have the ball playing ability whilst Lindelof and Maguire lacked the athleticism.
We still actually played to how Ten Hag wanted, but just very poorly. More could definitely have been done to adapt to the circumstances we faced though. And more could have been done earlier to realise the tactic wouldn't work anyway. We needed at least 3 additional players with the athleticism to break their bollocks running all game.

By NiceGuy Go To PostWasn't Rice nailed on to join Arsenal pretty much while West Ham were lifting the Conference League trophy?Apparently Arsenal were talking to him since January, getting his personal terms agreed and all that, then when we made the initial bid to West Ham, City came in but Rice had agreed everything with Arsenal already so it tipped it our favour
By NiceGuy Go To PostWas he ever linked with Man Utd either way? Only remember arsenal and city being solidly rumoured. Sounds more like a convenient bad excuse/lie to o me than an actual reason.Feels like he linked more and fairly heavily in 2022. But then it became clear Rice wasn't moving then, so they were expected to be a big contender for him in the 2023 summer window. It didn't really play out like that though, by the time we got to that window it was pretty clear it was either Arsenal or City.
Euros and Copa America
It's gonna be a busy month between them finishing and the season starting, lads. Wonder if that Caicedo money will get spent. Imagine players are pretty reticent to join us having a new manager after such a long time. Nobody wanted to sign for Moyes and he'd joined the champions.
