Anyone with eyes who watched United this season shouldn't need to review shit. Completely embarrassing tactically. 8th position was incredibly lucky considering how we played.
Injuries and personnel aren't in any way an excuse for how United played. Conceding chance after chance to teams fighting relegation. The problem was the system.

By Crusher Go To PostNot getting sacked because we need money for transfers. That’s like a woman staying with her abusive boyfriend because she can’t afford to rent a place by herself.
Has Saliba even been given a chance by Deschamps? Konate was pretty poor last season particularly as it was drawing to a close, and Upemecano has been a complete clown the last few times I've seen him for Bayern.
By inky Go To Postthat's completely inappropriate m9I know. They should just sack him.

gotta cut more players to make room for henderson, dont think anyone else in the squad will celebrate throw ins
Just as City correctly echo John Stuart's Mill poignant criticism of the power of the plebs, Madison, father of the constitution, is silenced from the National team. Coincidence? I think not.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/article/2024/jun/05/manchester-citys-trumpian-tactics-spotlight-autocratic-creep-in-football
See for example the deeply cynical Trumpian framing, the idea that this is a battle being fought against “the elites”. Here we have a richer-than-god inherited monarchy, owners of the most powerful football club in the world, somehow presenting themselves as outsiders. When will the boundlessly rich kings and princes of the overclass finally be allowed to take a seat at the top table? Other than now, and for ever, in every single sphere of life?
Then again, perhaps the most nauseating part is the free market libertarian nonsense, the “commercial freedom” stuff often parroted around this issue by people who don’t understand what a free market is. This relates to the absurd suggestion that allowing a propaganda entity to spend whatever it wants for non-commercial reasons is somehow “allowing the market to function”.
There are no good elite football owners. Hedge funds and leveraged buyouts are their own kind of evil. But the basic question here seems ever more profound. Why, other than blind stupid greed, would anyone want a government to own a football club?
Governments are not benevolent enterprises. The UK government sells arms and kills people to protect its own interests. The US government is an imperialist machine. What did we expect Abu Dhabi to do here exactly? Play nice?

that is why i said they gotta cut more. i know he desires some big jordan
and dont call me m8, pal.
Hendo has such a big personality off the pitch that he counts as two squad slots.
Anyway I assume that secures Palmer's spot.

Bad timing for Maddison. A bunch of new young players stepped up this season and he's just been in and out of form since his injury.
Speaking of injuries:
This guy is going to run Reece James into the ground.

By Laboured Go To PostHonestly, incredibly impressed by Man U.
By inky Go To PostKind of chance I genuinely expect him to miss :(
why him
I've never wanted a player to succeed as much for Liverpool as I have him, but I'd be surprised if he's still playing for us season after next. Not sure I've seen a player so immediately go from having a good season to such a crisis without there being an injury or personal problem in between. If he could play like he was between last September and around the start of March, I think the vast majority of Liverpool fans would be able to accept the crazy number of misses, but his game completely fell apart in every respect after that to a worrying degree. Needing 5 good chances to score once becomes a problem that the team can't cope with when he's getting one per game instead of four, and the improvement in his general play fell off a cliff as well.
Maybe I'll fuck Liverpool off and just follow his career when he leaves ¬¬
Getting Szoboszlai back to his early season form will be a huge thing for determining how good a season we have next year. The main thing I expect Slot to focus on from day one is the way we start games. We made a bad habit of looking like relegation contenders in the first ten minutes of a lot of matches last season, and conceded first far too often against all standards of teams.
Could do with figuring out what to do with Trent as well. I'm still not convinced by him in the hybrid role, and he has real competition at rightback now.
Absolute fucking lad.
We've had two seasons of 'he's going to score a hatful against some poor bastards in the near future.' Used to be able to convince ourselves that his xG underperformance would revert to the mean, now I think his finishing technique is so unreliable and untrained* that it's completely random whether any given shot will go in.
*in the sense that the training doesn't get applied in real situations, I'm sure he does all the work and drills that any other striker does on the training pitch
How come Mexico aren't on the way to being an international powerhouse? You've got the population, enthusiasm and grassroots participation for it afaik. Do quite well at the World Cup but there's a lot more potential there I think. Do you reckon playing in a weak association holds you back or would it be the same anyway?
afaik the Mexican league is improving slowly but steadily, would be nice if that spread
edit: just seen the highlights, that's a lot of square passes and free men in the box

England is going to do this and then not only keep Harry Kane, who has never won a professional football competition in his life, on the team, but make him captain
Wouldn't mind Grealish getting a spot tbh. He's got lots of experience of winning and, mainly, he does offer something very different to the other wide players. Was very good the other night when he came on.
But yes, he didn't have a good season for City. He needs to get out of there he's just not a player that fits in with Pep's rigid system.
