I didn't expect that we'd be out of contention so early before the league game at Old Trafford, but we'd won so many tight games having gone behind in them that it's not hugely surprising that we've declined so quickly.

It’s the latter. We never got in fourth gear over the season but ground out wins against smaller teams. Winning the league without beating the top 6 at least 3 or 4 times would be a little unsatisfying.
Of course I’d take any win, any trophy we could get. But this wasn’t a season where we were imperious and suddenly choked. We were lucky to be in with a chance when we were.
