Rashford is worth like 50 million right now, and that’s with add ons included given his absurd wages.
By Willkiller Go To PostIt would be north of 500m this year. Our 22/23 spend was about 220m. It's a pretty high level all things considered.
By sohois Go To PostThe premier league is so much larger than its competition that even with a cap the clubs will have no trouble outspending basically everyone on the continent.I must need to read more about this because I can't see how the club at the bottom of the competition is making £500m in TV earnings unless I guess the cap is based off a 4-year period or something like that. It looks like the PL's current deals (domestic and overseas) are ~£2.63 billion per season right now or about £131.3m per club so that's the only way I guess that would make sense. That's definitely A LOT better, but it's still a limitation compared to the top, top clubs in Europe.
A key reason for the PL being bigger is that it is a more competitive league with more balance between teams. A spending cap helps maintain this balance, meaning the PL will likely continue to grow larger and the cap will continue to outstrip the capabilities of continental teams
I agree a cap could help things remain a little more competitive domestically, but it will not help the top teams compete with the rest of Europe's best. And like I said, the FA continues to do their best to help with this since they never help teams with scheduling like other places do.

It also is just another layer to the other changes which limit spending to 85% of revenue, so it's really only the absolute top teams that are going to be affected
By Willkiller Go To PostIt's based on 5x the bottom club's TV revenue for a year.I just read an article about it and I see that it looks like the cap would be specifically related to wages, amortized transfer fees and agent fees and so it isn't overall club expenditures which I was assuming it would be. I still don't really see how there is any benefit to this since it only affects the clubs at the top, ultimately, but it will keep increasing with better TV deals (although I think the next domestic one didn't really increase much if I recall?). Without caps in place elsewhere though, it just seems like another arbitrary thing that really isn't taking into account the teams competing in Europe like when they inexplicably pushed the transfer window earlier for a season. These changes need to be across the board for them to make a ton of sense.

Edit: I do understand that this is just another thing to try and prevent a regulator from being put in place.
I think with the current proposal only Chelsea for their previous fiscal year would be effected as things stand. And that would change over the next 12 months as they continue to cut wages and make new revenue generating deals.
You have to remember that even though Clear Lake have spent massively on transfer and agent fees, the wages these players (not including Sterling) are on is far below what Abramovich was handing out under Marina.
I don't think this cap situation is anything to be concerned with right now.

If I had to put money on who was going down it would be Plymouth.

I’ve seen the argument put forth that the new spending cap is there to protect football clubs as profitable endeavors, but I don’t think that is the case, because otherwise the Glazers would have voted in favor of the changes, so they don’t have to sell to make money. United was one of the only a few clubs to vote against it.
It won’t hurt the PL’s competitiveness in Europe, because PSG will always be willing to outspend the PL regardless of how much City pay for in wages and fees. They’re always n + 1, and n is being compressed to help prevent the PL from going the way of Spain. If this stops City from being able to go nuts in the market, it’ll probably have a knock on effect to PSG, too, and something needs to be done about their insane state-funded spending power before it’s too late.

Awful stuff, still it saves me money from having to buy these god awful shirts that adidas keep putting out. Swear a lot of their designs are even worse than what we were getting from Puma.

I thought Arsenal were gonna pump you, and yet you survived. There’s a lot to be said for experience in the competition.
Oh you’re facing Real, not PSG.
Well, Real is not actually that great, but they’ll have that experience and winning mentality too.

Its mainly because current rules are too constraining. Everyone is complaining about being able to lose 100m over three seasons, we want to be able to spend/lose more.
