We've scored 33 goals in the 9 games played in 2024 and one of those games was the only game of the season we haven't scored.
Wild goalscoring form, let's see if we can keep it up in Europe.

By sohois Go To PostLuke Shaw is probably still better than Zinchenko and City's non-existent left back.
Assuming he's not injured or fat
Not for how we play.
Like Tierney is probably a better LB than zinny but he just fits our system better

Do you think Gyokeres is ready for the prem? 100 Mill release clause right?
By Kidjr Go To PostNot for how we play.I think teams probably overestimate how important FBs are to a tactical setup. Plenty of Liverpool fans thought the team would never function properly without a like-for-like TAA replacement, but then Bradley played a traditional role to great effect.

Tierney probably got abandoned because he was even more unreliable than Shaw

Can't speak for Liverpool but full backs are fairly important for us. Just having more people to be able to beat the press is key. Saliba and zinny contribute to that massively.
By Willkiller Go To PostGyokeres for 100m would be absolute insanity
Too unproven?
By Kidjr Go To PostToo unproven?Well, yeah. His Coventry numbers in the Champonship were decent but unremarkable when compared with Toney, Mitrovic, Solanke, Akpom etc. I'm not going to pretend I watched much Coventry, I saw their game with Sunderland and he looked decent but not much more than that. He stood out in that team, but that's a mid-table Championship team. The Portugese league is a pretty poor level really so while he's obviously having a great season...it doesn't suggest he'd be a top PL striker, and certainly not for that price.
That's not to say if someone did pay that, that it wouldn't work out. But it would be a pretty massive risk, one I can't see a club taking.

Well we're getting into the semantics of "mid-table" a bit here, point is he stood out in the team but that was still a decent amount below Prem level
By Kidjr Go To PostIt's a risk, but I think he has way more upside than a toneyHow do you figure that? I mean, to be clear...I think Toney for 100m is also a risk, but at least you can point to 2 (and by the end of the season, likely 3) very decent seasons at Prem level for a (sorry FF) mid-table Brentford.
And Toney got 31 Championship goals in 45 games. Gyokeres got 41 Championship goals in 121 games...
He'll be 26 too. Not to say that's old by any stretch of the imagination, but this isn't a 21-22 year old like Joao Felix or Enzo Fernandez. Spending 100m on a player from the Portuguese league is always a risk but if you can get 10+ years out of them perhaps that maybe makes it worth it. That upside isn't really there with Gyokeres.
More eye test from highlights nothing tangible. And ofc you can't go off a hunch for 100m but I just don't think anyone looks at toney and say yeah he's isak, son, halaand, salah level of forward. Not even sure he's better than Watkins, good player that improves us but we need better than good to go the next level

Maybe then start with identifying a striker that is "better than good" and go from there?
It looks like there are several options in the bundesliga who would be better than Toney or Gyokeres without the prohibitive price tags or lack of big league experience.
Boniface, Openda, and potentially Guirassy. Not seen any links to this lot for the PL clubs though

Big and young and could get much better with age and time in the weight room. These Bundes players are high risk when you're looking for goals though. Recent history hasn't been great.

I always enjoy reading SR's pieces. Would be nice to be able to read the whole thing but obviously understand why he's paywalled a lot of his stuff.
Michael Cox's comment was re Barcelona for what it's worth. Girona's account overview is shown here by SR.. almost all of their revenue is from broadcasting like all the other small teams in Spain.
