By DiPro Go To Postonly HCMC? i traveled around a bit but only briefly in HCMC.
yep, I'm going there only for a week for a short break from work, I wanna just relax and don't want it to get too hectic going from city to city in that time, but let me know if you think I can fit in more spots which are close.
unfortunately not, i was only in HCMC for 1.5 days, we traveled around Hanoi mostly and then departed from HCMC.
With the Japan trip inching ever closer we got all things arranged now. We will be staying in Tokyo, Nagano, Kyoto and Osaka over the course of the trip. Planning to do daytrips to Mt. Fuji (from Tokyo), Nara (from Kyoto/Osaka), Jigokudani Yaen Koen (from Nagano) and Matsumoto (from Nagano). Also got tickets for the Nintendo Museum as well as USJ including the new DK ride express pass. Most of the typical stuff you'd do on a first trip to Japan in this region is on the cards pretty much. Going to a teamlab location, one of the observation decks in Tokyo, Arashiyama & Kinkaku-Ji in Kyoto, temples, shrines, markets etc.
Knowing roughly how my trip is layed out, any last tips you guys might have? Especially food recommendations that require planning ahead for example would be welcome. Nakiryu is on the list for sure for example.

sounds like a great trip. congrats on getting museum and usj tickets!
what foods are you interested in? i have like a list of 200 restaurants i will be trying on my next trip.
for ramen i recommend looking up ratings from ramenadventures.com, really cool american dude that writes for japanese magazines and truly knows his stuff.
michelin has a decent selection of cheap to really expensive restaurants (look for bib gourmand for great value restaurants)

couple of classics i always hit in tokyo
Ramen:
- Fuunji in Shinjuku (get the Tsukemen, fishy!)
- Kikanbo (spicy and meaty!)
- Sosakumenkobo Nakiryu (tantanmen to die for)
- Nagi in Golden Gai (classic)
Wagyu / Japanese Beef
- Yakiniku Jambo (Jumbo) - whole spectrum of japanese beef, really cool experience but a bit more expensive
Katsu:
- Butagumi (so far my favorite Katsu, reserve ahead)
Yakitori:
- Torishiki (hard to get in)

Thanks, very helpful! Foodwise I’m really open to anything, not a picky eater. The typical things like sushi, ramen, wagyu/kobe beef, yakitori, takoyaki and okonomiyaka are on the list. But I’m also hoping to find some lesser ‘famous’ dishes to try.
dunno about lesser famous but i'm a big fan of japanese curry, it has that european curry flavor. chicken karaage is delicious too if you never had it.
if you want to be daring try chicken/horse sashimi, where else can you eat raw chicken lol.
if you are even more daring try Natto, you either love it or throw up.
personally i stay away from anything sweet. their desserts suck imo.

Haha, the Natto scene in Shogun was done well if you've seen that series. I actually planned on at least grabbing some at a 7/11 to try it once.
As for raw chicken, that just sounds straight up insane. I had no idea this was a thing, that's a no from me Clive.
