Supposedly LGA 1851 is already a DOA socket?

According to rumors, Intel was reportedly going to opt for two variants of Arrow Lake for its LGA1851 platform: the vanilla Arrow Lake CPUs arriving soon and a rumored Arrow Lake Refresh, which would succeed the former. This isn't surprising; Intel regularly refreshes CPU architectures to fill the gaps between complete architectural re-designs.
If HXL's information is accurate, LGA1851 could be one of the shortest-lived platforms in Intel's history. With the alleged Arrow Lake refresh being canceled, there is no purported replacement, which means future Arrow Lake owners may have to wait until Nova Lake for a worthy replacement.
Just ridiculous
Not gonna lie, I'm at a point where every potential upgrade path feels like a waste of money. Way more than it usually does.
Just bought another AW3225QF since it was going for $200 off and I am getting an additional 25% back from Capital 1, so it should only be $825, total.

My inner SFF snob is a little conflicted with it due to the cheaper build materials. Steel side panels, plastic on the front trim, etc. it’s a far cry from the all aluminium panels or my past 3 cases. It was also like half the price compared to them too though, so I can hardly fault it on that front.
The only thing I will fault it on is the design of the case feet for horizontal layouts. They should’ve flipped the case over on the opposite side or redesigned the feet to be taller. As it is, the GPU exhausts out the same side the CPU and PSU intake from, and it has limited clearance against a flat surface. Not ideal, but easy enough to work around.

another one I was thinking about was the cm ncore 100. seems quite good value for £240 but there are some complaints about the cooling
By rerixo Go To PostI was thinking about mounting it horizontally underneath my desk, does that seem okay given the exhaust setup?Use a bracket that spaces it about 2cm from the desk and you should be good to go. I’d also mount it so the side of the case with single vent is facing up towards the desk.

The dual 140mm fans won’t really struggle to bring in adequate airflow for the GPU. The opposite side of the case will then have unrestricted intake for the CPU/PSU and freely exhaust a lot of the GPU’s heat without it recirculating back into the case.
Not too familiar with the Cooler Master case, so I can’t comment for or against it. If I were to go for something that style though I would look for a NZXT H1 V2 on sale personally.
I think I asked before but anyone know a good site to buy key caps from? I checked most of the sites recommended by r/mechanicalkeyboards but I’m looking for brown keys and that seems to be uncommon.
I'm thinking what the best storage config would be for me going forward. Right now I have:
2tb Samsung 980 Pro
---> ~450gb (Windows drive)
---> ~1370gb (games drive)
1tb Crucial P1
---> ~930gb (general purpose)
I don't hold onto shit and delete everything as soon as I'm done with it (for the most part). I also run a pretty tight ship Windows wise. My OS drive is currently sitting at 130/450gb. My games drive has never dropped below 500gb free. The Crucial requires the most file management, seeing how it (temporarily) holds most things downloaded, but even there I can easily free up 200-400gb in seconds, if I feel space is getting kinda tight.
Assuming I manage to sell my PC in full and get a motherboard with 1x PCIe5.0 and 2x PCIe4.0 m.2 slots ... what would be the most logical and cost effective way to go about it for someone who's mostly fine with the above config and is looking to upgrade and futureproof this shit.
At the moment I'm thinking a single 4tb gen4 drive, split 3 ways - 500gb for the OS, 2tb for games, 1.5tb for general storage.

i dont do anything important on my PC so i wish I just kept my 2TB drive, but saw a good deal for a 4TB so i felt like i had to buy it. Now I have 6TB of storage and I don't think I've ever used more than 500gb at one time. I always delete stuff once I'm done with it, and I usually only have 5 games at most downloaded. Right now I have Mafia 3, Vampire Survivors and Dark Souls.

Neat case:
Speaking of cases, might go with the Antec Flux over the North XL. Considerably cheaper, has everything I want specs-wise. Not a fan of the glass panel, but that's easily modded.

only thing I'm not sure about now is picking a motherboard. is there any point in going for the new x870 motherboards? is it fine to skimp out on motherboards? I don't plan to overclock or anything like that. the asrock A620I lightning is on the other end of the scale, but it's a bit annoying that the second m2 slot is only gen 3. is there something in the middle that you'd recommend? does this asus board look like a good deal to you?
I’m completely out the loop with current motherboards sadly. All I will say is avoid Gogabyte, and go for a board that offers the features that you want/need.
For AM5, your main things to consider are 6000mhz RAM support and CPU heatsink compatibility. Beyond that, look for the nice to haves. Dual M.2 slots, adequate rear I/O, etc.

Yeah, just make sure the motherboard has the ports and slots you need and you’re likely going to be fine. Stay away from the absolute bottom of the bargain bin, too.
I don’t think you plan on doing any kind of intense I/o stuff, so no need to look at block diagrams to see what is hanging off the chipset and what is connected directly to the cpu.

This likely isn't going to end well for Gigabyte lol.
Yay, got my OLED monitor hooked up and configured! Between the MSRP drop and cashback from Capital 1, I got it for nearly half-off what I originally paid for the one I broke.

I’ve had Asus for every rig except my first Z690 config, and that was Gigabyte. From what I can remember I don’t recall having any issues. The BIOS was an adjustment coming from Asus though.

Gigabyte ITX boards specifically are just weird.
Like maybe they’ll only have a single m.2 slot, or maybe they’ll use micro-fan headers for a laugh. Usually they’ll have a non-standard CPU socket placement though which can have big impact on heatsink compatibility in SFF cases.
If you’re stupid like me, you’ll buy a Gigabyte ITX board with all three of those oddities.

Putting my PC up for sale as I'm typing this.
Minus the 4080, since I've no idea what the availability of the 5080/5090 will be in January. Dire, I imagine.
In fact, 9800x3D might be just as difficult to find come the 7th.
Maybe I better wait another week or two.

If these 285k instability rumors are true ... popcorn at the ready.
Gotta say though, Arrow Lake being more energy efficient than Zen 5 would be quite an achievement for Pat's boys, if again true.

I’m awaiting the day you ditch monitors in favour of massive OLED TVs. It’s Sovngarde, brother.
I think I might've found my next PSU, the NZXT C1200 Gold.
- 1200W
- ATX 3.1 compliant
- 10-year warranty
- all-japanese capacitors
- A-tier rating on psucultists
Basically untouchable at 175€.

It really does. I did some more digging and can't find anything bad about it, it does in fact appear to be a top tier psu. I was initially looking at the Corsair RM1000e and Shift RM1000x, which also come highly recommended, but for about the same price ... might as well get a 1200W psu.
I'm spec'ing this build to carry me over two generations of gpus and more headroom (and 600W of zero rpm) is never a bad thing.
Also, I'm gonna go with TG Kryosheet instead of thermal paste. Not real need for it, but I always wanted to try it. 20€ is not too bad.

From what I understand, the thermal pads will run you 2-3C hotter but are super useful if you are changing coolers somewhat frequently or just want ease of application. I think they don’t really degrade very much over long lengths of time, either.
These graphene pads with *adjusts spectacles* molecular structure stacked in the z-direction are actually significantly better than most pastes, with temp tests to prove it, everything else you mentioned does apply, however.
Ease of application and not having to worry about paste drying out over time are tangible benefits, but I'd be lying if I said either was ever a real concern for me. Not having to clean up paste from all the nooks and crannies of the Zen 5 cpu socket is a nice bonus, I guess.
Just something new to try.
