By Rob Go To PostIdk what’s worse, buying a $500 asus keyboard or installing windows 7 on a MacI DON'T UNDERSTAND
I got a bootable disk working but it's really not that easy when you're a newer version of macOS and have to install an older version on an older laptop
Got the Macbook Pro (2014) and Macbook Air (2014) onto Catalina on a fresh install. It took forever but now that they are running I am impressed they run so well. The Air just has a really bad display.
The MBP especially. Granted I did almost nothing but open a browser tab or two but it behaved really well.

By Zabojnik Go To PostShould we be recommending Gen4 drives to a man who just bought a 500$ non-custom keyboard tho?

I wasn't throwing shade (well, maybe just a little bit).
You can get a 2TB Crucial T700 for 200$ these days. Will you ever notice those 12,400mb/s read and 11,800mb/s write speeds while performing typical desktop tasks or when gaming? No ... but the same can be said about going from Gen3 to Gen4 ssds.
EDIT: Beaten.

My board does have a single Gen5 slot, which being used by my P41 drive atm. That T700 does look tough, gonna keep an eye on it.

Co-worker has the non extreme at the office and it feels and looks great. Reviews are good, with the one con being the dumb price, but that's all relative.
I'm sure I could get a fully custom built KB, just like I could've always went with a full custom loop for my rigs, but I'm good on that :x
the NX Snow switches feel even more luxurious here, sinking into the keyboard’s frame with every press like boots in freshly fallen snow
Bless
I can't hate too much on a $500 keyboard. I bought a customized Kinesis Advantage 360 Pro from Upgrade Keyboards with magnetic palm rests, larger battery, and Kailh Box Silent Pink Ultralight switches. Only thing this board is missing that I would like is the ability to hot swap switches. Sadly, the curved PCB makes that not really possible for whatever reason.
The Box switches are particularly nice if you are worried about spills or grime because the switch is sealed and nothing can get in.

That is supposedly from Intel's own slides and also in games where APO was enabled, if I am to trust what I am seeing elsewhere online.
By HottestGrapes Go To PostBoy I sure hope that 447w is total system powerIt is. The more important thing is the 80W lower usage. Don't know if that still means 200W for just the CPU or what.

RIP Smokey
The fuck is this ffs 🤦🏾♂️
At this point I’m waiting to see what the 9000 x3d chips look like what a disaster
The Azoth Extreme was delivered at work.
Packaging is an experience, and the keyboard is heavy af. Beautiful 😍
Between the slight Zen 5 IPC improvements, 300-500Mhz higher clocks and the various Windows / AGESA patches ... the 9800x3D is very likely going to be ~10% faster than the 7800x3D, which is kind of meh, but since you can't really buy the 7800x3D anymore ... I'll take it.
Maybe I’ll just sit on the 13900k and get some faster RAM. At 6200 rn.

I've considered it, spent half an hour looking at diy cases on youtube the other day, but I don't think I have it in me.
Too much work and money for little to no gain, considering a perfectly cromulent case like the Fractal North is 115€.

By Zabojnik Go To PostSomeone find me an ATX / mid tower version of the Meshlicious. That's the case I want. The Fractal Design North is probably the closest you can get.
The North is indeed the one I've been eyeing. Undecided between the regular and the XL. Might just go with the latter, since one of the goals of this upgrade is to not worry about component size anymore, gpu in particular. It's gonna hang below the desk anyway, plenty of space there.
Mesh side panel is a given.
EDIT: Okay, yeah, XL it is. It's actually not that much bigger and has infinitely better radiator / fan combos. It even fits 2x180mm fans at the top.

If you’re gonna go big, you may as well go obscenely big.
I’m quite happy with the Fractal Ridge. Just wish I had a seamless way to power it on from the couch.

They probably still sell those usb-powered remote on/off switch gizmos.

Got the Azoth Extreme setup. Feels great to type on. I can confirm that it does indeed put letters on the screen when a key is pressed. OLED screen is cool and is useful for system metrics. The RGB lighting itself is way more subdued than I was expecting, at least with the room lights on. Maybe you can adjust that in the atrocious Armoury Crate software, which I'm in no rush to install. Room lights off or dim, it pops pretty well though. Also has pretty sweet animations that you can cycle through or upload your own. Been using a full size keyboard for 3 years now, and the amount of space that is freed up by moving to a 75% KB is nice.
Saw that earlier and added it to my list!

Apparently, Intel is charging some of their employees for hot water to make their tea and are also removing chairs & couches from break areas. 😬
