By HottestGrapes Go To PostIt would be silly to “upgrade” from a 3080Ti to a 4070 Super, wouldn’t it?Going from a 3080 to a 4080, while financially irresponsible, ended up being a very satisfactory upgrade for me, precisely because of DLSS 3.0 / FG and the increased RT pawa.
I’m only considering it for the sake of the power savings and DLSS 3.0. That and I can sell my 3080Ti to cover most of the cost.
I don't know about going from a 3080ti to a 4070 Super this late in the game, with FSR3.1, FG mods and whatnot as an option that basically wasn't there when I made the switch. I guess it would depend on the money involved.
The annoying ticking noise is back and it is definitely coming from the motor of the upper 140mm radiator fan, which is an EK Vardar.
Might just get a single Arctic P14 as a temporary replacement while Noctua continue to cook their goddamn new NF-A14s.
I wish they were 25mm instead of 27mm tho, because ...
Late EDIT: Nevermind, found a spare Silent Wings 3 140mm fan in my brother's computer case box, money saved.

Alright, Sunshine + Moonlight. Or just Moonlight? Not sure how it all works.
Talk to me, I know some of you are or were using it. What would be the best way of setting it up with my living room TV?

By Zabojnik Go To PostAlright, Sunshine + Moonlight. Or just Moonlight? Not sure how it all works.Sunshine is the server (so, running on your gaming machine) and Moonlight is the client (runs on your TV or secondary computer or whatever).

I am told that Parsec is also good if your host is a Windows or MacOS machine. Your client would also be Parsec.
As far as setting Sunshine up, I think the defaults are mostly good, especially if you are only planning to use it while home. You might benefit from getting a headless hdmi dongle and pluggin that into your host machine and pointing Sunshine to exclusively use that device as its display so that you have fewer issues when remotely waking up the host machine from sleep.
My host device - my gaming PC, is always up and running, so no waking up from sleep function required.
I guess mostly I just want to know what the best / bang for buck device for the client would be. I've been googling and there are ways of sideloading Moonlight onto the LG C9, but there are bandwidth limitations and the like, so I'd rather have a dedicated device.
Will look into Parsec as well.

I will say that there is very little image quality improvement going over ~50-80mpbs bandwidth in Sunshine. So, if the bandwidth limitation is 100mpbs, I think that would be fine.
Might as well try it on the C9 first, yeah. Quite the pain to set up though, you need an LG dev account, etc. Anyway, will report back.

That said, a dummy dongle isn't necessary anymore, can use a Virtual Display Driver: https://github.com/itsmikethetech/Virtual-Display-Driver
As for clients, I use an Nvidia Shield (Android TV), an Apple TV, iPad, iPhone, and MacBook. Basically all work well, except that the bluetooth connection to the controller from the Shield can be a bit spotty
Well, this was quick and easy.
Haven't explored the settings much yet, other than to set the client side to 4K / 120hz / HDR / 65mbit (for now) ... and it seems to copy the source settings with no issue. Running FF16 in 3840x1600 and that's what I'm getting on the C9.
Image quality seems great, can't speak for the input delay yet ... although with the magic remote as a mouse it seems very responsive.
Last step is to figure out how to connect a joypad to my C9, I remember it being quite finicky when I was messing around with it years ago. Worst case scenario I'm gonna get an USB over ethernet adapter and just go direct. Always wanted one of those gizmos anyway.

Oh, I forgot another benefit to having a dummy dongle or using a virtual display: if you are wanting to play on a device that has a different screen resolution than your source. Like, say, a Steam Deck. Because what these streaming software solutions will do is change the resolution and refresh rate of the source display to be whatever you set your client to request. This can result in some weird things happening on your source machine's desktop and if something fails, you might have to go manually change your source's primary display settings back to normal.
Having a dummy or virtual device sidesteps all these potential problems.

I doubt I'll be doing much streaming anyway, I kind of just wanted the option. :)
By inky Go To PostSo, what are you planning to do with 32GBs of GDDRX 7 on your £2,000 5090, brehsIt's currently a huge existential dilemma for me. I want for nothing with my current setup and I don't see that changing in a significant way over the next couple of years ... because consoles. I risk upgrading to a 5090 and feeling almost nothing, inky-chan.
Some gaming perhaps
Do I go the other way instead? Donate my 4080, get a 3060, experience the #struggle of the common man, yearn for better things, like I once did?

Yes. I want native 4K path tracing. I want the Gods to be disgusted at my very existence.
Edit: This 1000W PSU is looking an ever-wiser investment.
Out of all the unnecessary / stupid upgrade options at my disposal, the smartest would probably be to simply swap out the 4080 for the 5080, which is likely to be priced similarly. Eat the ~300€ upgrade cost, continue enjoying my current build for another 18-24 months.

By Laboured Go To PostIt better be 1 x 16 pin.Is the 5080 only going to be like a 25% performance improvement over the 4080? That would be rather disappointing.
Idk, but all I will say is that the performance metrics on announcement quite rarely disappoint. They always seem to find performance somehow.
By JesalR Go To PostPCIe 5.0 🥲Since it uses all 16 lanes, I think you will still be fine with a pcie4 mobo. I don't see even the 5090 using up all the bandwidth of pcie4x16. That's 32GBps of bandwidth.
New build is going to have to be from scratch

In which case will need a different socket mobo anyway

With all the unholy scalping knowledge I gathered when hunting for a 3080 during Covid times, I'm confident I can not get one on day 1.
Famous last words but I'm not so sure this time. Managed to get a 4090 around release and we're past the Crypto peak now.
We're well into the AI boom however, and there have been rumors aplenty about TSMC's packaging problems and Nvidia's design woes for Blackwell. Depends on how many chips Jensen has allocated for lowly gamers and, of course, pricing. I can see it going either way.
My guess is you will be able to get a 5090 on day 1 or 2, after which point the initial supply will be gone.
