Welp, Dell doesn’t offer accidental damage warranty, according to their sales team.
Guess I’ll just be on the oled market again. I’ll be on the lookout for one that doesn’t have as bad as flicker in dark scenes when fps fluctuates as the Alienware I broke.

Kibner’s too honest. I would’ve applied for third party insurance and sent it in for a repair asap. Then cancelled the cover afterwards.

So the third party insurance would probably just end up getting me some cash back. Probably not worth the potential fraud risk.
I'll just wait for a better monitor at a better price to come out. :sigh:
I wouldn't say I'm feeling zen about it. I'm very angry at myself, but what else can I do? I have to save up for upgrading our bed to king-size and buy new dining room chairs. A new monitor will just have to wait.
I'll just have to convince myself that getting double the frame rate at 1440p over 4k is worth the loss in image quality.
Looks like the 9900x and 9950x provide good uplift for non-gaming tasks in Linux over previous gen: https://www.phoronix.com/review/amd-ryzen-9950x-9900x/15
@Smokey these are also the only consumer cpu's to have what seems like full AVX512 support for HPC loads

Tell me more.
My only knowledge of AVX512 use extends to how it’s seemingly really good for PS3 emulation in RPCS3. What’s the difference between the standard support that the 7000/9000 CPUs offer compared to the full support offered by the 9900X/9950X?
By HottestGrapes Go To PostTell me more.2x256 units instead of a fat 512, from what I understand.

E: the 9900 and 9950 are supposed to have the full, fat 512 unit
https://www.anandtech.com/show/21524/the-amd-ryzen-9-9950x-and-ryzen-9-9900x-review/9
it also looks like the 9700 and 9600 also have single 512 units?
The difference between the 2 x 256-bit channels for AVX-512 on the Ryzen 9 7950X and the the full 512-bit data path on Ryzen 9 9950 and 9900 (more cores, better results) really shows that having a single data-path makes a big difference in the world of AVX-512; our 3DPM2.1 with AVX results show the 9950X is not for catching.
it also looks like the 9700 and 9600 also have single 512 units?
Neat. I don’t really need the upgrade but I know I’m going to soon because I’m weak. I’ll probably wait it out to see how things shake out with the X3D chips.
I’m aiming for low power, mainly. So the 7800X3D and 9700X are my current front runners. I’ll hold off to see how things are with AVX512 on the 9700X3D and higher.
If the 5000 series is like the 4000 series on juice, I’ll likely go for a 5070 too. Hopefully a moderate upgrade over the 3080Ti and a vastly reduced power consumption. Rebuilding my PC recently has kinda lit a fire under my arse for all this.

Just a random fyi for any current and future, adblock-alypse asylum seeking Firefox users: if your modern cpu can't play the above video in 8k60 without stuttering, you more than likely need to install the AV1 codec extension for proper hardware decoding.
Navigate to about:support in Firefox, search for 'codec support information' and click on the link. It'll take you to the MS store, install, done.
Well, not you, Cavalo, your internet probably can't handle the bandwidth anyway. Gg.

Drugs are hard to quit tbf.
CD Projekt fixing UE5 for Epic. I got maybe 1% of that. Still wish they'd kept working on their engine.
it is a fucking DISASTER for me, as I have been used to crouch jumping since source.
you can just do custom software for nullbinds i guess. but it should be very easy to register and ban them, it's pretty obvious when they never have overlapping inputs
pretty funny to see how many pros use it though
chopper is a legend. he got such bad movement it's off the charts.

Agreed with Wooden that it would be easy to detect. Any attempt to circumvent would just lead to the feature feeling bad to use and inconsistent, imo.
By Laboured Go To PostOnly took them, what, 10 years? Having an FPGA in every one of those monitors made them so much more expensive.
It's reminded me that my next monitor is having Pulsar in it (he says having completely forgotten any of the potential downsides to the tech).
fuck. even after calibration, i am not liking this monitor's display. i want my oled back. :(
maybe in 3 months after my next quarterly bonus

By Laboured Go To PostOh hey, the only version of 3D I care about.
I think more (all) monitor manufacturers should consider 37 inch monitors as a persistent part of their high-end range.
Looks like the calibration I did wasn't working right. Apps not liking the Wayland compositor again. *sigh*
I am now using the built-in ICC profile and set the basic RGB, gamma, and brightness levels myself and that has helped tremendously. Still not OLED good, but much better than before (reds were incredibly over-saturated).

By Laboured Go To PostWhat will they think of next, mouse support in the BIOS?!
I feel like I'm going to look at all the options and somehow end up with an Asus (B850) mobo again, so I guess this is something to look forward to.

Fucking Intel. Their broken microcode in the last two gens of their CPUs finally killed my partner’s 13700k. Have to do an RMA now. Uggh
When it rains ...
Man, I should really tell my buddy about this fiasco and have him update the bios. Thanks for recommending the 13700k, Kib. <3

Lost a monitor and now a CPU. Big RIP.
Don’t despair, the Core Ultra 7 265K is just around the corner.
