If anyone's looking to get rid of an old graphics card, GTX 1000 series and higher, I'm buying.
By Kibner Go To PostGiant cracks, the osd doesn’t display anything, and no image when hooked up to a pc. The lights power on and the power switch works, though!Holy shit, that's absolutely tragic. You seem ... strangely calm about it. Fall damage protection or have you achieved a carefree, zen-like state?

Fall damage protection or have you achieved a carefree, zen-like state?I’m very annoyed but it’s my vacation and I refuse to let this ruin it. If I have to replace the whole monitor, so be it. Maybe I just go back to my old display for a bit while waiting for a deal.
Well, commiserations, Kib-chan.
In less disheartening news, buying / downloading a 80gb game and playing it 10 minutes later feels like it shouldn't be possible.
Glass, what an (at times naturally occurring) invention.

Fast internet is great. I don’t want to upgrade my entire network to support greater than 1G speeds, though.

Dell support gave up and told me to call their sales team. Sigh. I’ll do that on Monday when I get back.

By Patriotism Go To PostSorry about your monitor, kib.Haha I love those bats that look like puppies. They seriously remind me of my actual dog.
Here's something to cheer you up
<3
hell yeah. met a random lad with one as a pet on a small island once, reminded me of my first pet rat who would be with me everywhere.
nightmare.
By Kibner Go To PostDropped my fancy oled monitor while detaching it from the monitor arm to bring it to Quakecon. Dammit
nightmare.
I think this is it now. Going to order tomorrow if no one got any problems with it. The 990 sale ended, so I have one of those and one of the WD ones recommended in here before now. Also added a be quiet! Silent Wings Pro 4 as an exhaust.
ASrock mobo availability is SHIT here, wish i could get the Taichi Lite. But yeah, it is what it is, even this steel legend got like a week delivery time to it.

I was going to suggest checking the prices of the Arctic P14. The P12 is pretty much goat'd for value. But that BeQuiet has better specs (both CFM and static pressure). So, if the prices are at all similar, stick with the BeQuiet.

By Kibner Go To PostDownload speeds are pretty good at QC:
My condolences for the monitor but heck you for flexing with the download speeds.
I’m still not getting full speed through Steam, despite getting full speed through speed tests. Shit’s infuriating.
It is all ordered. Inshallah. Had to make a few changes due to... Not wanting to wait an undermined amount of time for shipping for some things, like the psu. But apparently most things are fixed with the RM1000e now anyway.
Either way, this is it, with my good old 3090 for the time being

By WoodenLung Go To PostI think this is it now.I would strongly recommend getting more than just 1g of thermal paste, from experience and for various reasons.
Thought that was way enough. Well I ordered it already, not going to pay shipping again just for that. So if everything fails I'm going to a local store to get whatever they have

ffs
Nissim and Okupski note that exploiting the bug would require hackers to already have obtained relatively deep access to an AMD-based PC or server, but that the Sinkclose flaw would then allow them to plant their malicious code far deeper still.

Reminds me of all those researchers claiming they could break TouchId on phones by making a perfect clone of someone's fingerprint after they scanned their finger in lab conditions, which like, dudes it'd be easier to chop it off
By reilo Go To PostReminds me of all those researchers claiming they could break TouchId on phones by making a perfect clone of someone's fingerprint after they scanned their finger in lab conditions, which like, dudes it'd be easier to chop it offI guess this is slightly easier in that it requires a user to initiate an install. It can't just happen by going to a website, afaict.
By Laboured Go To PostI fear this might impact me the same way all those other cpu vulnerabilities of the past have.
EDIT: I see sarcasm has already been had.
I'm playing The Callisto Protocol and ... OLED + HDR has been by far the most impactful upgrade to my PC gaming experience in the past decade.
If anyone's still on the fence for whatever reason, get a fucking OLED screen, the rest can more than likely wait.

I do sometimes miss blinding myself with the HDR brightness of the Acer X27
But OLEDs have taken over my house at this point. I just pray they aren’t replaced by a worse technology, which is what normally seems to happen.

I like my Odyssey G7 but the HDR aspect of it is not strong. I too miss aspects of the Acer X27's brightness and colours.
It's all about contrast for me, perfect blacks make everything else pop like a motherfucker. Bright highlights are a nice added bonus.
I legit still shudder when I remember my Acer X34's IPS glow. Years of IQ enjoyment lost to that leaky grey shit.

This is the build for my coworker I ended up with. Went with the 7700 over the X version, at 222€ vs. 285€ it's the obvious choice. Could've picked a cheaper motherboard, but he's already saving money on the cpu and by going with a used gpu. Picked up a 1060 6gb for 60€.
By WoodenLung Go To PostAll my stuff arrived today. Except my fucking cpu cooler. Allah.Thermal paste and pennies will suffice for now
Arctic MX-4 forever. I know MX-5 is supposedly a little better, but I prefer a paste that's more viscous and thus easier to apply.
I've heard mixed things about Kryonaut. It's great conductivity wise, but apparently it can dry out over time with extremely high temps (80°C+). Likely not to be issue when paired with a general use / gaming cpu tho.

well turns out i forgot to order the exhaust fan i wanted. so i guess some extra thermal paste will be ordered too.

I’m a Noctua faithful. NT-H2 is my go to. Especially since they sell a pack with alcohol wipes packed in to clean off the old paste.
By HottestGrapes Go To PostI’m a Noctua faithful. NT-H2 is my go to. Especially since they sell a pack with alcohol wipes packed in to clean off the old paste. But does it come with a petite spatula? Anyway, too rich for my blood, twice as pricey as the MX-4 per gram.
Though maybe I can tell my buddy to order some and then nick it after I'm done building his PC. As payment.
No spatula sadly. I’ve had kryonaut before which did come with a spatula and that was like trying to spread cold peanut butter. Got fuck all paste in the tube too, 2 uses max.
By HottestGrapes Go To PostI’m completely out the loop with the SFX PSU market. There’s a lot of options nowadays though, compared to years back where you went with a SF600/SF750 or settled for something just plain worse.nice yeah when I was looking years ago corsair was the only real recommendation, so been looking at those again, but damn 1000w sounds nuts.
Asus, Coolermaster and Corsair all seem to have good options now. Depending on what wattage you want and if you want a SFX or SFX-L unit.
I’d probably go with the Corsair SF1000. I haven’t seen reviews for it, but I can’t imagine it’s a bad buy. It also has a zero RPM function up to 400w.
is there any advantage in picking an SFX-L unit over SFX? seems like more cases are compatible with both these days

Depends on the model, but a SFX-L generally has a 100-120mm fan in it vs a 92mm in an SFX unit. So they can be quieter, in theory.
It’s hard to compete on fan noise when the Corsair SF units are passive up to 300-400w depending on model. I’ve never heard the fan in my SF750 personally.
The downside to SFX-L is even in cases that state they support them, they tend to be a tight fit. Generally you’re going to have a harder time managing the cables.
Got back from Quakecon safely and all my computer stuff still works. Success!
Now to fight with Dell in the morning to see what I can do about getting my OLED repaired or replaced for substantially less than full MSRP.
e: until then, I'm using my partner's old monitor which is 1440p, 240hz, ips. it also supports free sync. I might need to calibrate it some as reds are particularly saturated

Looks like I might still qualify to upgrade my Dell warranty/support coverage to something that includes accidental damage. I will find out when they get back to me in a couple days. Lets hope this works!
my cpu cooler went from 1 to 2 days delivery, to now probably friday. i am very upset
Hell yeah

the delivery service is just dumb, it turns out. hell yeah, it's aloive. hope you like the cable management of having the cpu cable just hanging there
Congrats Woody, long and at short intervals may it output wonderfully rendered frames.
Look at all that empty space. The Vapes of old would've had an agoraphobia attack. This impostor that's playing fps shooters with a controller on PC probably doesn't care though.
