Ran the GNOME version of Bazzite but Sunshine has issues with GNOME and it doesn't support HDR, so I rebased to KDE. That seems to be working mostly fine. My monitor recognizes that it has been placed in HDR mode but Cyberpunk 2077 and Helldivers 2 don't see it as having HDR capability.
7 years later, AMD is still releasing 'new' AM4 processors.
I wish they'd tell us whether Zen 6 cpus will for sure work on AM5 chipsets. It would make me much more likely to upgrade to Zen 5 and buy a robust X670/B650 motherboard knowing I could just drop in a Zen 6 processor a year or two down the line.
Looks like the current situation for gaming in hdr is to change the launch options of a game in Steam: https://zamundaaa.github.io/wayland/2024/05/11/more-hdr-and-color.html
Getting an hdr video to display in hdr might be a little more difficult, according to an older post: https://zamundaaa.github.io/wayland/2023/12/18/update-on-hdr-and-colormanagement-in-plasma.html
Well, I’ll figure it out one thing at a time.
gamescope -W 5120 -H 1440 --hdr-enabled --fullscreen -- %command%

Could you try launching the video player through Steam? Probably won’t work and it’d be a bit janky, but could be worth trying maybe?
By HottestGrapes Go To PostCould you try launching the video player through Steam? Probably won’t work and it’d be a bit janky, but could be worth trying maybe?Yeah, that is likely what I’ll try tomorrow after confirming that the Steam launch options work on actual Steam games. I think there are other launchers I could use that aren’t Steam to do the same. Hell, I might be able to change the launch options of my video app directly and not need to involve Steam. We’ll see.
Also, pixel doubling looks so good. Text is too tiny at native scale, so u bumped it up to 2x and everything is nice, readable, and extremely crisp. It’s 1080p but no jaggies or blur.
It’s a shame there is no good gaming oled that is 5k at 27-32” as that would make it possible to do pixel doubling and get a 1440p equivalent.

Confirmed HDR working in Helldivers 2! I had to update the launch options a bit.
The "-r 240" bit was to enforce a higher refresh rate cap (the default is 60). "--force-grab-cursor" had to be added because it fixes the mouse being misaligned in-game when using scaling, integer or fractional.

XPG handheld.
-Designed with ergonomics in mind
-They want to make it as upgrade friendly as possible
-It’s fucking ugly
-3D print files will be publicly available for it
-No trackpads
It looks very bulky, but the shape of the grips looks perfect to me. Been saying since I got the steam deck that it would be much more comfortable if the sides flared out instead of being straight.
@Zabo it’s looking like AM5 will be supported at least through 2027 so Zen 6 should might, maybe? get released for it.
I believe that's what they're implying. Obviously you wouldn't want to talk about Zen 6 and have people think about it when you're announcing Zen 5. At the same time they are kind of leaving themselves an out, but I'm fairly confident Zen 6 will work on AM5 boards after this news.
Anyway, it's too early for me to care. Zen 5 X3D is where it's at. Wake me up in 6 months. The ball is in Nvidia's court. If the 5090 turns out to be something I can't live without, then the upgrade to Zen 5 is not in question. My 5900x ain't got enough juice for such a monster.

Almost wish AMD went for a new socket for Zen6. Probably lines up with my next upgrade, and I’d really like to get something with future compatibility if I’m moving to red
By Zabojnik Go To PostCamm2 as the default ram form factor would be nice, in that case.yes, i'm hoping that is the standard form factor for ddr6. would open up sff builds even more, imo.
By reilo Go To PostDoes that mean you only have 1 RAM module?Yeah, it's the major drawback.
By diehard Go To PostYeah, it's the major drawback.Yup. It's worth it for the increased bandwidth, lower latency, and lower power draw, imo.
By Laboured Go To Postinteresting.
new build with Lunar lake
or Macbook pro M4 for my next workstation workhorse.

The chairs in the video look NICE

Where’s Smokey? They got our gaudy RAM in DDR5 now.
i am going to buy these
Don't know if anyone is looking for an affordable gas-spring monitor arm, but these have done well for the week or so I've used them: https://www.huanuo.com/products/huanuo-single-monitor-mount-for-13-inch-to-32-inch-screens
I have one for my new monitor and have another paired up with this laptop mount for my work laptop. The combo works pretty well, even if my bookshelf speakers have been doing their best to make things difficult.

Interesting. I found some similar things available in Linux. Will have to see if I like any of them.
e: looks like this is the best option on Linux: https://github.com/systemofapwne/leetmouse
will require a bit of effort to get working as I am not using an Arch-based distro and I don't see it in any of the package systems i have access to
e2: nvm, looks like there is something built in now: https://wayland.freedesktop.org/libinput/doc/latest/pointer-acceleration.html

if you want a "retina-like" experience with your display, this is a useful calculator: https://web.archive.org/web/20240318220415/https://phrogz.net/tmp/ScreenDensityCalculator.html#find:density,pxW:3840,pxH:2160,size:32,sizeUnit:in,axis:diag,distance:33,distUnit:in
"retina-like" basically just means you won't be able to see the individual pixels. it is based off ppi and viewing distance.

By Zabojnik Go To PostDisgusting difference between the 5090 and the 5080. Fuck Nvidia. That’s assuming the 5080 isn’t a cutdown 5090. There really isn’t a way to be certain what chip will be which gpu.
we should all be grateful we are getting any fab capacity to Geforce
(this post is only 70% sarcastic)
(this post is only 70% sarcastic)
I somehow missed that the 5060 is still on GDDR6, 128 bit bus bandwidth. That means it's very likely still 8GB. And probably the ti as well.
This is criminal. Jensen is a bad person and should feel bad

Hopefully Arc Battlemage is good.
I mean i'm a sucker and will still get the 5080 or 90 but for people who aren't part of the problem..

I wish I could say more and specifics, but if yall saw first hand the stranglehold Nvidia has on data centers, you might be able to understand how they could give a shit what consumers think when it comes to their GPUs. It’s truly insane.
I could probably give some first hand examples but they don't really need to look any further than their first quarter data center revenue being $22.6B compared to $2.6B for gaming.

But seeing it is like…damn. The fuck they need gaming for lol.
