By Xpike Go To PostI've never heard of that happeningThe Kojima thing? It happened some years ago. I saw the tweet. He obviously thought it was a funny joke but he deleted it later. Just like I guess the developer of BM Wukong thought it was a joke to say he designed an enemy in a way that he could still masturbate to it.
Either way, the only point I was making was the picking and choosing purple gaf loves to do. It's mostly all performative and they don't actually want to stop playing videogames over it, just that's it's easier to make your stand with some games than others.
By Jazzy Jambalaya Go To PostNot the case for every oled display, but if the game and display are using a variable refresh rate and there are significant framerate swings, oled's will often exhibit a flicker in dark scenes which can be extremely annoying. https://www.rtings.com/monitor/learn/research/vrr-flicker
VRR flicker on OLED is very upsetting. Never noticed it on the CX55, but the C477 shows it a lot if the frame rate is below 60. Fluctuations in frame don’t really seem to cause it either, just low frame rates. It’s really noticeable at with a 30 or 40 FPS cap. Like the FF16 demo, in cutscene that are capped to 30, flicker becomes very apparent on the top third of the screen.
By inky Go To PostI checked on this and the nda or whatever was… reaching a little. And apparently the devs have said some deeply misogynistic things in the past. I don't believe those ideas are expressed in the game itself, unless maybe you go Feminist Studies 101 with basic tropes like "monster women", but I don't think that's the case. That shit from IGN was *wildly* mistranslated
What's more likely is 1. every game release is a battlefield these days, especially if some chud anti-woke crowd champions it for whatever reason. 2. It's also a game made in China, so it's far easier to dismiss and even easier to get "progressive points" over at era if you go: "Well I'm not supporting this product of racism, sexism, etc. AND if you do you're just as bad!".
You'll never see them keep the same energy about, say, the next Kojima game for example. Dude has decades of putting pervy or straight up misogynistic content in his games. He once twitted a picture of himself with a female producer, her hair was a little off, and the caption read something like: "She's like that because we just fucked". Most it got was a yikes from them, but you'll never see calls for his games to be banned like they did with Cyberpunk, for example.
From "I ran into a lot of brown nosing" to "I exposed myself regularly to get a reaction from potential hires"
Jeff gerstmann was talking about how they decided to snoop on one of the directors social media and found some post where he said different games were made for boys and girls and Jeff acted like he basically said the Nazis were based as hell
By jjasper Go To PostI havent really been following what are they taking a stand against?
Usual performative nonsense about diversity and t'china.
The Wukong criticism went to a fucking weird place, yeah. There's definitely issues with the devs, but like a journalist from Wired pointed out; it can devolve into a somewhat sinophobic criticism than anything else.
As far as the game is, it's inconsistent on all parts, but fun. The 'Overwhelmingly Positive' Steam review average is fair.

Sony is confused now. Concord flopped but Helldivers was a smash hit

By C4-621 Go To PostFeels like people are moaning about something and trying to cancel a game on monthly basis now
If it’s not that, then it’s praying for and gloating over a game doing poorly. Like that Suicide Squad game earlier in the year.
Or the whole culture war shit that goes on with some games. Wukong being the one for that currently.
Gaming discourse should be banned from Twitter/Threads/etc. nothing good comes from it.

By s y brev Go To Postthe only genre of gaming where framerate is relevant is first person games.you can't even do it at 60fps
i could go top 8 at evo at 30fps, I can s rank hell n hell mode in dmc5 at 30fps
It is truly baffling that native HDR is missing from Wukong. Thank the oriental gods for SpecialK's HDR injector. Works much better than the current RTX HDR workaround and it has no performance penalty (enabling Nvidia's filters costs ~8-10fps).
Quite happy with the game's performance, getting a steady 90fps with RT on Very High. Wouldn't have minded RT Medium, but the water reflections are still bugged there, so Very High it is. Still tweaking things a bit. Sharpness reduction mod is a must.

Legit only notice it on loading screens. I guess the fact that I always target a steady 100fps+ helps, but yeah, never had a problem with it on my LG C2 or C9.
By Zabojnik Go To PostIt is truly baffling that native HDR is missing from Wukong. Not really baffling, they are a small team, they are probably ill-equipped to have someone make HDR callibrations. Like man, even the lighting in this game can be terrible in a lot of places.
I can forgive all of these because it's their first project. It's inconsistent in almost all areas but nothing really unforgiveable, game wise.
By domino Go To Postthey got their panties in a bunch because the devs asked streamers to actually talk about the game when they stream it and not talk about chinese political and social issues.

How Black Myth: Wukong Developer’s History of Sexism Is Complicating its Journey to the West
basically, the dev team is gamergate

Like man, even the lighting in this game can be terrible in a lot of places. It's the same discourse as with ultrawide support. Yes, a proper / native implementation takes development time, but in modern engines like UE both features are basically toggles. Flipping the switch might only get you 80-90% there as opposed to getting in the weeds with it, but it's still much better than nothing considering there are many weaksauce PC gamers who would never apply a mod or touch an .ini. As I've said many times before: mark it as an experimental feature in the settings, ship it, add native support in a future patch, if that's what it takes.

Only found out yesterday that Case of the Golden Idol has been out on ps5 for a month already 😑
Assumed it'd arrive just before the sequel. Are the DLC cases worth an extra fiver?

Shame baltaro doesn't have a mobile version
Edit: omg I forgot about remote play
Edit2 it works really fucking well with remote play or ps now.

Especially in something like Wukong where good looking lighting was given more priority than having it function better for the player.
By C4-621 Go To PostMeanwhile my lizard brain playing the game on consoleYeah, there's a certain cutscene and also a set piece in chapter 3 that's just gorgeous. Hellblade 2 feels like a tech demo compared to this.

AutoHDR / RTX HDR has been a net positive in virtually every game I've used it in, including Wukong.
So these concord numbers are pretty incredible. I played the beta and it seemed like the pretty standard bland hero shooter flare that clearly should have been F2P but nothing outright bad with it. Not sure I can think of a bigger flop in recent memory.

Not sure I can think of a bigger flop in recent memory.'Nothing outright bad' is just nowhere near good enough to find even the seed of an audience in that space, especially if you're asking the audience go pay for it in the knowledge that there's every chance that it won't have any legs. Even if it excelled in more aspects, there's every chance that it would have flopped I think.
PS5 is shaping up to be easily Sony's worst console imo, been so few games that have justified me buying one. Even the Sony games that have been surefire hits have been underwhelming.
By C4-621 Go To PostWAIT Concord costs MONEY ?35 Starmers lol
Gg
Plenty of people along the chain have made a lot of fucking woeful decisions between conception, studio purchase and release. Being one of the majority of devs stuck making a game that is obviously going to flop must be terrible.

Yeah but like boring everyday games from major publishers that flop don’t flop to this magnitude. They sell thousands of copies and then die within a few weeks. This isn’t even that.
And yes the PS5 is Sony’s worst console. I really don’t know if that can even be debated at this point.
By jjasper Go To PostYeah but like boring everyday games from major publishers that flop don’t flop to this magnitude. They sell thousands of copies and then die within a few weeks. This isn’t even that.I only knew it was properly out because of a Playstation Access stream yesterday, and then a thread about it's Steam numbers. Guessing the number-crunchers at Sony figured that basically any money put into marketing was just a waste and wouldn't have made enough of a difference to it's sales.
Skull & Bones and Suicide Squad are the obvious comparisons, and they were pushed pretty hard iirc.
Returnal and Astro's Playroom are the only games that Sony have published this gen that I'd put anywhere near their top tier unless I'm missing something obvious.
