It's not open world like TES, it will be divided into different areas. This might actually be a strength, but it significantly limits the scope and how "AAA" the game will feel I guess. It definitely won't be a reactive, Skyrim-like world.

I think the main difference is that The Outer Worlds is just a boring as fuck universe. Retro-future aesthetic with done to death corporate humour that got old really fast. Your companion Parvati was the standout (together with Vicar Max I guess), but overall The Living Lands is a much more interesting setting.
But yeah, the main appeal should be the writing. Hopefully it delivers in that regard.
