By KimoSan Go To PostI was 12 when the 64 launched. These were tough prices at the time. SNES games were all $49 or less. The change from cartridges to discs dropped prices a lot. I remember Chrono Trigger MSRP being somewhere around 90 USD because of the hardware inside the cartridge.
I don't really have an issue with launch day prices for physical stuff because the prices do seem to drop incredibly quickly now days.
I do wish more digital legacy games and DLC on consoles would go on sale more often or permanently drop in price. The PC market seems to have good parity with more frequent sales.

Someone is well steeped in The Rules.
One birthday the shops were clearing out the original Xbox and GameCube for like £80 each. That was a good birthday.

Luckily it came out at the end of summer so I was able to save up for it (after seeing it in a magazine while my mom shopped at the grocery store were all kids learned about videogames. ) in fact I remember lots of games being >50. pretty sure a friend paid 100+ for virtua racing. it really wasnt until Playstation did games really star being 49.99.
By Laboured Go To PostThat was back when you only needed 1 or 2 games, because they were so good.Got 3 a year. Birthday, christmas, Summer break (that I could buy myself. Only time my parents would let me buy one). Problem was birthday and christmas were a month apart

Pre-ordered the N64 with Mario 64. My dad took me to the store on launch day and we picked it up. When I got home I opened it up and the cartridge did not fit in the slot. The N64 cartridge slot mold was wrong. My dad drove me back to the store and we told the person at the desk what was going on. They tried it and confirmed the issue. THANKFULLY they had extra 64's in the back so they got one, unwrapped it and tested the Mario 64 cartridge on the new console. That one worked.
Also, at this time money wasn't growing on trees so I could only get two games. I opted to get MK Trilogy when it was due for release instead of getting Pilotwings.
What a time to have been alive.
Edit:
I was 11. My birthday is in October.

These posts are a trip down memory lane. To my point in my previous reply, I never got SNES games at launch. In Torrance, CA there was a video game/VHS store that had used games for ~$40 or less. That was the only way for me to create my SNES collection. If used games without the box were available they might have even hit $30 or less! The person that owned the store was pretty cool and made Xerox copies of the manuals for me. Star Fox was one that I remember getting a stack of papers that were copies of the manual.
Snes games were pretty expensive iirc, I remember paying 2700 BEF or 70€ for Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 in 98-99.

One day my grandma bought me legend of mystical ninja for the SNES when she was on vacation at the beach. Some myrtle beach games clerk changed my life that day
Nintendo may not charge $70 for a game, but they almost never discount their first party stuff. Everything Mario is still $50 bucks for a physical copy

Is the time management in Pentiment there to stop you from doing everything, or can you completely fuck yourself over if you don't do it efficiently?

Nintendo do charge $70
Never got why the idea was that hardware competition was going to keep prices down? IIRC, three publishers upped to $70 before the console gen started, Sony then did too and everyone else eventually

Every other publisher wishes they had the Nintendo fan base. I wholeheartedly disagree with the idea that their first party stuff is that good.

I think we also shouldn't forget that arcades were still kicking around a bit well into the late 90's. Marvel Vs Capcom and the SF Alpha games were very, very popular at the malls and bowling alley's here in Baltimore.

I really dont mind the Chaz painting - there is some artistic flair to it.

The painting is dope but instantly Vigo painting from Ghostbusters 2 came to mind, and apparently that’s a generalized sentiment.
