The idea of Game Pass is having enough subscribers to make a return on the budget needed to make these games, I think you need 100 million or so to actually make it work. We know that failed.

Gaming is such a tiny part of MS they probably just throw out their business plans every 6 months when Nadella or someone more senior gets involved.
A lot of the business press talked up Gamepass as being the long term goal behind Acti and Bethesda, but given how much they've pissed away so far one of the senior leadership has probably just told them to gut it and claw back what they can. Even the 80 billion they sunk into Activision is a drop in the bucket compared to their real business, so why would they care if they're fucking up long-term goals? There won't ever be enough money in gaming

- Profit from cross platform game releases instead of hoping for GP subscribers
- Build Windows Lite and entice manufacturers to make Xbox branded products and handhelds
- Microsoft Gaming becomes successful because consumer buy into their vision of a platform that can be played on various things.
- Execute monopoly tactics
