It's kinda wild that Microsoft hasn't partnered with prebuilt PC makers like NZXT or similar to put out an Xbox branded gaming PC that comes with 2-years free of Gamepass.
Not finished the DF video but this all seems very underwhelming so far. Also sounds like it'll be a big(ger) boi.

yeah this always seemed a bit weird. surely there must be loads of companies lining up to do this with MS.

huh?
By reilo Go To PostWeren't the GPUs very different between those two? The PS5 Pro reads like it will be almost identical in architecture with a different power curve and DSSLR functionality. Not from what I remember. The sticking point I saw come up the most was the difference in total RAM RAM speed.

Going by the specs it's giving me 'cheapest still meaningful upgrade we can get away with' vibes. The Zen 2 based CPU, which has become an actual limiting factor in the years since its conception, is basically the same. So if people are expecting the doubling of framerates in titles with ray tracing compared to the PS5 Amateur, they better hope PSSR is ready to do some major weightlifting.
And I think it will be, but not to the extent of, say, DLSS 3.5, unless Sony are hiding frame generation up their sleeve. Doesn't look like it from what it's been revealed so far ... and seeing the less than spectacular efforts from the AMD camp, it's probably better left for PS6.
Taking Cyberpunk 2077 as an example, I fully expect the Professional to be able to run it at a stable 60fps in quality mode and look a whole lot better while doing it. PSSR@1800p should take the piss out of the current FSR2@1800p.
As for a 60 -> 120fps jump in performance mode? I highly doubt it, unless Sony are okay with developers experimenting with <1080p to 4k upscaling, the equivalent of DLSS ultra performance, which can look okay, but it's very circumstantial and more of a PC tinkerers' thing. The CPU will remain a limiting factor going forward, the other will be developers, not willing to sink time and money into further (heavy) optimization.
So, yeah, very much a PS4 Pro 2.0. 549€$.

Could the PS5 Pro instead be targeting the needs of the gamer more attracted to a higher-performing PC set-up? Possibly, but there's one big problem here: sticking with the Zen 2 CPU architecture means that meaningful frame-rate upgrades in games can only apply to titles which are limited by the GPU, not the CPU. Today's mainstream CPUs blow console-spec Zen 2 out of the water. Meanwhile, the RT and machine learning features in PS5 Pro are already present in today's Nvidia GeForce GPUs - and have been for years.

Its simple, Fender. Better frames at a higher resolution for less than the price of a standard grafix card.
By Dazenheimer Go To PostIts simple, Fender. Better frames at a higher resolution for less than the price of a standard grafix card.
But only for games constricted by the CPU and quite frankly, the marginal differences are just not worth it to me.. if I cared about marginal differences, I would be a PC gamer
Monopoly Go, a single-player mobile board game, launched on April 11, 2023. Since then it has made over 2 billion dollars, been downloaded 100+ million times, and become one of the most popular digital games on the planet. But to reach this point, Scopely, the studio behind the hit game, has spent nearly $500 million on marketing alone, which is more than what Sony spent on some of its biggest games like Spider-Man 2 and The Last Of Us Part II.
Probably no here had heard of Scopely until today but they were bought by a Saudi Arabian group for 4.9B$, 1.3B$ more than what Sony paid Bungie.

DLSS performance mode at 4K is 1080p internal. Ultra performance mode is 720p internal.
Sony were okay with Returnal running at 388p or whatever internally

BRB setting up the elgato and will upload my two hour rebuttal where I go into detail on why nobody should use Gotham Knights as an example of a CPU limited game, and where I will spend half the runtime explaining how Sony is going to market this thing because apparently that’s something DF is really worried and concerned about.
See, I think you've cherry picked two very small criticisms from the video that have got you upset. Is that the real problem here?
