legit the dumbest project to split into two parts.
not only have musical movies bombed so many times now that they try to hide that it's a musical in the marketing but also the second part of Wicked is dogshite and has no good songs.

Listened to a podcast talking about the new speak no evil. The big picture.
First one of them talk about how they dumbed the remake down cause they underestimate the American audience, just for another one to think the Netherlands is in Scandinavia like a minute later. 💀
But anyway sounds like they changed it to a thriller instead of horror, and a film about toxic masculinity. Sensational.

Was the original good then?
Saw Beetwolejuice last night. It was fine. Big fan of Winona and Monica Bellucci.

Watched a couple of FILLUMS that did NOT have Scarlett Johansson in them.
The Lost Boys was alright. This kid Corey Feldman had me in kinks everytime he was on screen with his bandana and stupid voice. Ending was a lot of fun but the setting is one of my least favourite (80s American teenage culture - what were yous thinking??) and some of the corniness definitely did not feel tongue-in-cheek.
Calvary was a banger. Very, very dark comedy with a great cast. I don't think I've seen a film with Brendan Gleeson in a lead role that I've not enjoyed tbh. I only watched it because I thought it was by the lad who did Banshees of Inisherin but turns out it was his brother. Talented bunch. Fuck that cunt pub owner, too.

I watched 48 Hrs for the first time last night, fun film. Cool to see Eddie Murphy before he became really popular and he was really good in the film too, very charismatic performance.

By LFMartins86 Go To PostI think the last I saw was the third and they are about to release the 7th. Really need to do the same and watch them all.Just finished watching the second trilogy. Higher budget but they kind of give up on the idea of motivating the camera. There are still cool concepts, so definitely worth a watch.
Saw In the Heat of the Night.
Pretty good. I Don't think I would rate it as highly as 8/10 but entertaining seeing Sidney put whitey in their place.

Got a free trial of Apple TV so decided to watch Coda. Fuck me that was shite, Apple should have paid me to watch it. Were they having a challenge to fit in as many clichés as possible?

shayamalan made hartnett look like an amateur for most of the film. such an odd performance from an obviously good actor.

Great fun with a great lead performance. I regret nothing. If that’s the worst movie you’ve seen in years, you’re blessed.
I do appreciate that I’m the bellwether for film opinions in this thread though, cheers lads.
For a good piece on Trap, I recommend Zoller Seitz - https://www.vulture.com/article/trap-is-good-and-so-is-m-night-shyamalan.html
We’ve all got films that make people go wtf m8 Will thinks that Seven and Revenge of the Sith are of equal quality. This is insane to me.
Rewatching The Butterfly Effect and I didn't realise that the prisoner who helps Ashton is Kevin Durand, only found out by reading the wikipedia page for the film.
He was recently in Abigail and will feature in the Naked Gun reboot (featuring Liam Neeson in the lead) next year
I just didn’t even think it was fun. The premise is obviously about as stupid as it gets, but the first 30 mins is literally mostly just…a on-screen concert mixed in with some really terrible dialogue.
It’s shot really weirdly, shot reverse shot closeups for dialogue between two characters.
Genuinely not sure where the fun was supposed to be. If felt like a Tommy Wiseau film, but not The Room…one of the ones after he became self aware. I think M Night might be self aware now. It’s over.

Was definitely self-aware; it felt to me like a high-concept Hitchcockian scenario, complete with a heightened sense of performance. Even the way it was shot I thought was entertaining; again, it felt like Shyamalan aping directors like Hitchcock and De Palma with split diopters and all sorts.
The fun for me came in the increasingly manic and outlandish ways Hartnett’s character acted. If you weren’t on board by the time he was suggesting they go under the floor because ‘wouldn’t that be fun’, then I think it just wasn’t gonna vibe with you.
I thought it was really entertaining with a really good lead performance - Hartnett knew exactly what kind of movie he was in and played it big. Most fun I’ve had in the cinema in a while.
Also re: the dialogue - that’s partly by design, that’s partly Shyamalan. His characters don’t talk like real people, his actors don’t act like real people. That’s pretty much always been the way he works. Sometimes - like here, or The Visit - it works. Sometimes, like Old, it doesn’t.

The level of stupidity completely pulled me out of it. Literally everything he does in the movie is highly suspicious but no one cares.
The writing was just shockingly bad, a dumb premise like that can be fun but it doesn’t mean you get to just do…whatever and expect the audience to go along. I just can’t turn my brain off to that degree.
Even in the more dramatic scenes it’s so lazy, he gets tasered I don’t know how many times but hulks it out and kills a swat guy. But when he gets to the swat guy and pushes his fingers into his eyes there’s absolutely no sound from him, the swat guy doesn’t scream or shout there’s just…nothing. There’s very little in the film that shows him as a threat, you finally get a moment of action and that’s what you get? Give this premise to a good director and watch how much fucking better it would be by virtue of the fact it wouldn’t just be a (poor) advert for the filmmaker’s daughter.
Alright, I’ll settle for this…it’s a one star thriller but a three star comedy.
