It's so stupid that we have a Toxic Avenger remake that was shown in festivals almost a year ago, got good reviews but it's apparently stuck on a shelf somewhere because the studio has no idea on how to market it.
By Laboured Go To PostLooks quite terrible. It's got a really weird...look, I can't quite put my finger on it.
And I don't just mean how it looks absolutely fucking nothing like 1999
I'm in because I really enjoyed Psycho Goreman, but I'm not totally sure on this one. Appreciate the genre it's going for.

Finally watched Furiosa. My hype got to me; I think I went in expecting something akin to Fury Road but it was so different I ended up disappointed.
I would still say I really liked it overall; it just felt deflating because nothing in it was close to Fury Road in terms of quality. The action, the score, the acting, the emotional hook… especially the score - man, what a comedown. The only action sequence that even came close to Fury Road was in the Stowaway chapter with the mad lads and their parachutes, but the music is a huge part of Fury Road’s action and here it just constantly felt like it was missing crescendo or climax. Lots of distractingly fake CGI (or practical effects made to look distractingly fake? Idk. All I know is that Fury Road hid it a lot more).
Too elliptical in places, too keen to fill in gaps in others. I was nowhere near as invested in Furiosa’s desire for revenge because I didn’t find the relationship with Praetorian Jack (or the character himself) anywhere near as well-defined as any of Joe’s wives. Hemsworth didn’t work for me at all in the first half, and by the second when it’s actually revealed he’s just a desperate scared loser his performance got better. Immortan Joe actor is a huge downgrade. Taylor-Joy was good in terms of an impression of Theron. Loved the last ten minutes or so.
I need to watch it again and judge it on its own terms, basically. As a piece of filmmaking - the craft, the props, the direction, the look of it - it’s phenomenal. Just didn’t entirely hang together for me as a story or have anything that I thought was completely and urgently necessary to see.

Yeah y'all have pretty much said it about Romulus. Alien greatest hits, it's fine I guess. Enjoyed Prometheus & Covenant a lot more despite their flaws
Furiosa was good but it didn't leave me feeling that insane adrenaline rush that Fury Road did and still kinda does, and I'll be honest that's all I was hoping for. Hemsworth was a lot of fun though.

By Perfect Blue Go To PostBro has a kid now I’m surprised he even found time to watch Furiosa.
This is why I only just saw it lol. Couldn’t get to the cinema to see it. Bought it on Blu on Sat and watched today.
Already blaming Jude for his failures.
Dean saw the movie without any issues, and he's an uncle now too.

“We’re making, hopefully, three more 28 films with the first one called 28 Years Later that Alex has written, and Danny has directed, and has finished shooting,” Macdonald said. “Then we’re just about to start, tomorrow morning, actually, part two. And then we hope there’s going to be a third part and it’s a trilogy.”

I watched Hearts of Darkness again recently. Really makes it seem that he managed to fluke a good movie out in Apocalypse Now.
By BrentMused Go To PostI thought Megalopolis had already been released and completely panned? It was premiered at Cannes early this year(May) to split reviews, maybe that's what you're thinking.
there's also a scene in the movie where an actual real life actor walks in to the theater and starts talking to adam driver on screen.

By Elchele Go To Postn8 why would you give Furiosa 4/5 after your hateful (but truthful) review
help me understand
Because I think it was very good despite it not being Fury Road. I’m literally about to start watching it again lol. Think it’ll be even better now I’m not expecting Fury Road redux.
Watched The Host... Didnt like it much. By far the worst Big Bong film i watched.
First 30 or 40 min were fairly entertaining, although with some ps2 era cutscene cgi. Then it just gets really boring.
Surprised he made this after memories of murder. Felt like a great film makers first or second attempt at a big film
Honestly a bit surprised, even if you prefer fury road, that you thought the acting was worse in Furiosa. So many performances are much better than the wet blankets in Fury Road.
Although the actor who played pedophile jack or whatever was bad enough, that he would have fit in with tom hardy and theron in the first one.
Hemsworth was surprisingly great, Anya Taylor Joy was great too, even the kid who played her was very good.
and the guy who played Rasmus Højlund was good too.

I thought Burke was outright bad, Hemsworth was bad in the first half (although I’m an hour into rewatch and liking him a lot more now I know where the character is going), and ATJ is really good but it’s odd you’d say she’s great and imply Theron is bad when she’s just… doing a Theron impression.
Immortan Joe replacement has zero aura compared to the original. I think the wives in Fury Road are good, and Rictus is much more fun in Fury Road than here (Scrotus was meh). Also - Nux. Secret weapon of Fury Road.
Really enjoying watch 2 now I know the vibe. Absolutely love the scene when they have to pick a war boy.
By Punished Go To PostMy only experience of MM is the justice league cartoon
Is he supposed to be DC Hulk with more clothes?
Oddity is a nice little slow burn ghost story. Excellent use of shadows, sound design and a certain prop to build up the tension and anxiety.
A definite recommendation to anyone who likes spooky movies.
Shudder continues to be an absolute gift for smaller horror movies, they've been excellent at supporting new horror directors and I am going to keep an eye out for what Damian McCarthy does next.
