By Lupercal Go To PostAlien:Romulus was made by the Evil Dead remake guy so yeah, it was always going to be okayish movie with lots of gore and nostalgia mixed in.
I'll still see it but I'm not expecting much.
Just be better than the last 3, which is not a high bar.
Downhill from that with Dont Breathe and then Girl in the Spiders Web which was awful.
I'd forgotten he wrote Don't Breathe 2, which may be one of the most demented ideas for a sequel I've seen (derogatory).

Oh no…
At least it brought us Andor, brother
Don't Breathe ruled. One of the only recent horror films I found genuinely frightening. If the new Alien is that in space with xenomorphs I'll be a happy camper.
the kid actress in aftersun is ridiculously good. the relationship between her and mescal felt real.
beautiful film.

By Kabro Go To PostSomeone decide for me if it's good or not.I think Fede Álvarez said something like this movie was a bit like having a band playing covers of some great hits but playing an original song every now and then.
It's pretty much a back to basics sequel.
The people behind Aliens really let the Quiet Place franchise steal their lane. There should have been a movie with the Aliens full scale invasion like 15 years ago, it could have easily been like a Quiet place.

Saw Romulus a couple of hours ago. It was alright. A largely competently made Alien-themed one(-ish) location action horror thriller that brings nothing really new to the franchise and doesn't advance it in any way ... but at least it's not Covenant.
It's basically a rehash of everything we've seen in the Alien films before, with one of two decent surprises. The pacing was solid, the horror aspect almost non existent. I guess I've seen facehuggers and xenomorphs in action too many times. Yep, that's how they look & what they do.
I've nothing really egregious to say about it. The performances are fine, it's well-directed, but I doubt it will seriously thrill anyone outside hardcore Alien fans. As for myself, I kind of wish I'd waited for the home release, if only so I could watch it on the ol' OLED with proper blacks, of which there are a lot, as you can imagine, instead of the TN-like shitty projector screen I got.

Those are in DolbyVision.
It was a punch the the eyes from the get to. I literally groaned out loud when the first space scene appeared on screen.
By reilo Go To PostNo AMCs with Dolby theaters in your area? Those are in DolbyVision.Nah m8, nothing of the sort. There are some decent enough theaters with quality 4K digital projectors, but this definitely wasn't one of them.

There's nothing in the 150km+ range in Italy either.
What fillings?
By Laboured Go To PostWhat fillings?
It's like a silky smooth pastry cream with a bit of rum (I think). The filling is served cold, while the bitter-sweet raspberry + bluebarry topping is warm and it creates this amazing sensation in your mouth when you bite into it with a bit of whipped cream on the side. A taste explosion.
I consider myself somewhat of a palachinka connoisseur and this is definitely in the top five I've had.
By n8 dogg Go To PostThought Lake Mungo was very good, if not at all what I expected.Lake Mungo is fantastic. It's one of those hidden gems that usually pops up on underrated horror movies lists or gets mentioned by a director on a interview.
It uses the mockumentary angle to perfection to show a realistic take on grief and depression.

This Ends With Us is a hit but the behind the scenes drama seems more entertaining than the movie.
The director has been on the press tour pushing the angle of domestic violence and how it's an important subject that needs to be talked about while Blake Lively is taking more like it was a romantic movie.
That difference in opinion about what the movie is about also gives strength to the reports that Blake brought on the editor of Deadpool & Wolverine to edit a cut that's more inline with her vision (Ryan Reynolds apparently also helped rewrite the more romantic scenes).
When asked about directing the sequel, Justin Baldini (who besides directing also plays on of the leads) said that are "better people" for the job and that Blake Lively should do it.

Watched a few movies in the last few days.
A Quiet Place Day One was surprisingly great. The big set pieces were good but the Lopita and Joseph Quinn's stories and chemistry were great. It's possibly on par with first one due to how strong the human part of the story was.
Also, I'm a dog person but Frodo has to be the best cat in movie history. He is a bit of an asshole at times but that's expected.
Funny how Lopita was terrified about cats and beg the director to change the pet but ended up adopting a cat after the movie and know takes a lot of pictures of her cat.
Talk To Me was good. The fact that it was an Australian movie was a big plus for me, they do some great horror movies (as Lake Mungo). I loved pretty much everything about it but I absolutely hated Mia. I get what they were going with the character and she had a horrible life but, damn, what an unlikable character.
Watched Twister in preparation for Twisters. What a fun movie. Pacing is great, there's very little slow points and I love how the twisters are like massive creatures like Jaws.
Such a great blockbuster. Helen Hunt looks so good in this movie.

Saw Romulus yesterday.
It's riffing on the first 2 a lot, pretty bland cast for the most part and decent gore.
I'd say 3.75/5.
Decent watch overall.

Enjoyed Trap. Harnett and the cinematography are great. Shyamalan has major flaws as a writer but he’s a very good director visually.

After the death of the xeno queen, king Xenos gathers the horde to conquer earth and get his vengeance. Humanity’s fate falls on an unlikely hero, a time traveler Predatôr created by the Engineers, and a ten year old girl who is the first born android in history.
That’s a 2 billy movie ez, PG-13
