By Freewheelin Go To PostFuriosa was fucking great. Slightly preferred Fury Road due to its tighter pacing, but this didn’t feel 2 hours and 28m either. Anya Taylor-Joy continues to impress me every time she's prominent on screen and Chris Hemsworth was having a fucking ball lmao, very entertaining performance from him.
The action is just as good as FR, wonderfully shot and edited. I love it when you can tell where every character is in a scene and not be confused about the stakes. Just top-tier action filmmaking yet again from Miller.
I don't think the action was that close to FR, I was trying to think what it was about it that didn't quite hit the same and I think it was the music. The music in FR dovetail perfectly with the action, the soundtrack for Furiosa wasn't close to being as good and it didn't have a symbiotic relationship with the visuals in the way FR did.

Strange, maybe my cinema mixed it badly
By Freewheelin Go To PostYeah you’re right about the music, I didn't notice it really :lolI think that's just how it is, but it's a shame because it was so integral to FR's action. I mean they had a rig covered in huge speakers connected to that guitar guy on bungie cords so they even had an in-universe explanation. None of that.
Strange, maybe my cinema mixed it badly
Just out of Onibaba on the big screen. Good stuff.
Trainspotting and Rome, Open City (never seen) also with re-releases.
I'm singlehandedly keeping the cinema alive. Or killing it by only seeing oldies.

What is up with the Challengers soundtrack? Just constantly shoving random house music or jazz piano into every scene. I could have just watched mediocre Kirsten Dunst romcom Wimbledon at Fabric
By Mister Go To Postnetflix movieThis movie did give us a live action Solid Snake though...

I skipped through it for potential hot scenes (very lacking in that department too).
Seemed like more fraud directing from the fraud director who brought us bones and all.

Finally watched Memories of Murder. I won't lie, it did take a while to get into. I still couldn't tell you the name of any of the characters (apart from the challenged lad? Baek? And the auld lad, Shin?). But come the end I could have watched hours more. I will probably rewatch it and enjoy it more a second time. The second half of it is so good and just gets better and better until the second the credits roll.
Western murder mysteries need more dropkicking from the detectives. Tell me se7en wouldn't be even better if Brad Pitt didn't dropkick Kevin Spacey.

Was based on a true story.
They finally got the fucker a few years ago.
This reminds me that Song Kang-ho has his first drama on Disney+. I need to give it a start this week.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostWow lolBeing serious, I don't know what Guagadino was thinking. He's made a film that is very much style over substance, executed that very well with his direction, but keeps ruining it with awful music choices.

I thought the music was excellent particularly in the tennis scenes where they matched up perfectly with the action and camerawork. I don’t even really like Guadagnino and I found it to be a very well directed and entertaining film with stellar actors. Both Faist and O’Connor deserve to be stars. They were already sensational in Westside Story and God’s Own Country/La Chimera respectively.

Yeah I learned this when I went to find out what the ending shot was all about. Might have to look up a documentary on it, I'm sure there'll be a few.

Under the Skin is one of the biggest fumbles I can remember watching. It's so fucking good until pretty much the very second that she gets on the bus. And then it gets a bit shit to be honest. Saw n8s review on Letterboxd and he's absolutely right... apart from his rating which is TOO LENIENT.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostMy hot take is that Whiplash is a pretty bad movie. Stupid on so many levels
i gave it 2.5/5. It's just... Very mid.
I like Whiplash a lot. Fucking LOVE the ending. Sensational editing.

the boy miller's done it again, lads. furiosa is pretty fucking great.
the first trailer had me worried, but i can say that the finished product looks far better (on the big screen). i was rewatching fury road the other day and that film has plenty of green screen as well, more than you probably remember. this one does kick it up a notch, and it does have some obvious/dodgy cg, but, and i say this as someone who's very sensitive to this, i can live with it.
appreciate that this one spends a bit more time building the world; you feel more part of it this time around than in fury road. there's more time to breathe this time around. and the action sequences are, again, awesome. miller's up there with james cameron as far as i'm concerned--and that's the greatest compliment you can give him.
i think i'm the only one, or one of the few ones to say this, but... hemsworth was weak. anya does more with her eyes than hemsworth does with ten pages of lines. he just lacks the chops to create a memorable character. immortan joe's actors (apparently, some other dude portrayed him here) are far superior to hemsworth. stick to thor imho.
i haven't decided yet if i enjoyed it more than fury road.

Who's Visakan Veerasamy on here? Because that's a SLAENT-ass thought if I ever seen one
Part of Whiplash is to push yourself past what you think is good enough to be great. If that means getting better at drumming or shooting hoops or whatever intense activity it is, yeah let that be the message "you" take away from it.
Whiplash is phenomenal and can be interpreted so many different ways. It's a modern classic.

I'm still not ready to discuss Furiosa, but I appreciate that people are passionate about certain things and there is often disagreement here.

Saw Furiousa, overall it was better than Fury Road but didnt peak as high as FR's first third. Wish the cgi was better, clearly didnt have enough time. The shots from distance suffered the most.
