any other director and there would be hope that the film wouldnt be shit, and that it could include the zoo and U2 parts of the book.

The book sequel is bad.

Glen Powell waiting eagerly by the phone. Apparently it’s not going to a remake of the film but a different interpretation of the book.
Maniac Cop 2 is a pretty decent sequel. The story is a bit weird (Cornell teaming up with a serial killer) but it has some good ideas that are well executed like tricking the viewer on who will be the lead heroes and there were two incredible stunt sequences.
The Substance and Longlegs are gr8 reasons to just ignore horror nerds. More gullible than the gamers.
Not surprised, they are trying to appeal to the nostalgic side of fans after the shit they pulled by firing Melissa Barrera and losing Jenna Ortega.
I just don't get it. They did an entire scene about how no returning character is safe and then literally every single one survived.
M3gan was a blast. I knew it would be entertaining but the story was pretty decent.
Bring on the sequel and the spin off.

I watched evil dead 2 for the first time last night. I think this goes against everything you'd assume about me but I didn't like it at all

It's got sound, visuals, and costumes. What more could you want?
Sound AND visuals?
Like a lot of people, I'm deeply excited about what the lovely Ridley Scott accomplished with Gladiator 2, but I want to gently, pre-emptively push back against viewers taking that excitement and using it to apply criticism or a "raised standard" to films going forward
Had a good time with Trap, Harnett was fantastic
This is in no way one of the worst films of the year lol, seen much worse films tbh

Loved this, definitely one of my favourite movies of this year.
Fantastic atmosphere, brilliantly shot, well acted and with a good story.
I only found out about it after watching a YouTube video about great non American horror movies released this year and I am really happy that video came up on my recommended list.
i downloaded it weeks ago and i cant remember what it was or why i did but i will watch it
Watched From Beyond last night. It was alright. Straight male teens who liked horror films had it good in the 80s.

Watched the new Alien.
Some nice and promising stuff in the first 20 - 30 minutes, including stuff on the colony and exploring the ship and watching the new characters very briefly develop (who I thought were generally ok). Also I think it's the nicest looking Alien film since Aliens.
Then the film shifted full-tilt into visual and dialogue Franchise Call Back mode. Horrible stuff. Make your own fucking movie.
Also the thing at the end sucked conceptually (and visually quite boring too), and was done far better in Resurrection.

"Get away from her you bitch"
Literally as he was doing the action thing before he says it I had my head in my hands just knowing that it was coming even though I had never seen the film before.
I saw "Saturday Night", the film about SNL, but it was Wednesday so maybe I didn't get the full effect.
Not being american or 50+ I only know of SNL and the early stars of that era, but it was still a solid comedy. It reminded me a lot of Birdman but done purely comedic with no attempt at pathos

By FortuneFaded Go To PostDo they accurately portray Chevy as an asshole?Yes.
although he also has a scene where JK Simmons waves his giant cock (probably prosthetic, sadly) in front of his face, perhaps giving reason to his madness
V/H/S 94 is a definite improvement over Viral. It starts a bit weak with the first segment being just ok, the second is good but the last two are great.
Timo Tjahjanto once again brings it with some lovely designs for the cyborgs and some gory action scenes, the stupid militia segment was also so much fun.

the buzz surrounding it is ridiculous.
In this line of work (writing about movies), hyperbole and festival hype can be a real problem. Sometimes, a film will play a festival to rapturous acclaim, only to then finally be released with a shrug. It's not even that these sorts of films end up being bad, it's just that it's very hard to live up to all that hype. I try very hard to tread carefully with these sorts of things — I don't want to oversell something. But let me tell you this: when it comes to Brady Corbet's "The Brutalist," believe the hype. Corbet's latest movie premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it was met with almost universal acclaim. It's played other festivals since then, and again and again, viewers are blown away. Having seen the film for myself, I can attest to its strengths: this movie is the real deal, folks. In fact, it might just be the best movie of 2024.
A sprawling epic that feels cut from the same cloth as films like "The Godfather" and "There Will Be Blood,"

By RAThasReturned Go To Posthttps://deadline.com/2024/10/blade-predator-badlands-disney-release-dates-1236144383/Completely expected, the production has been a mess. It doesn't have a director right now or a final script, there was no way the movie would be ready for 2025.
Wesley Snipes wins
Unfortunately watching harry potter this evening. I feel that Harry should not be able to unilaterally free Dobby with the gift of a sock. Dobby is the property of the Malfoys.
When "Directed by Alan Smithee" came up on the opening credits of Maniac Cop 3 : Badge Of Silence, I knew I was in for a terrible time.
The movie is a mess, the story is all over the place and the behaviour of the characters doesn't make any sense most of the time but I didn't actually hated it, the ending sequence is kinda of badass.
We just don't have long sequences of characters on fire this days, definitely a lost art.
Might watch it again with the commentary track because apparently that is a must listen as the story of the production is probably better than the movie.
The original director William Lustig had written a script with Larry Cohen that had a black detective investigating a series of murders in Harlem as the lead. Pre-production was going full steam ahead, they were getting ready to cast when the Japanese distributor said that they needed to drop the black lead and bring back Robert Davi or the distribution deal for Japan was off and the movie wouldn't move forward.
Cohen was willing to rewrite the script but he wanted more money to do it. The producers refused paying him more so the script stayed the same.
Lustig just cut everything about the black detective on script, made a few little adjustments and shot what he could.
He ended up with a 51 minute cut and just fucked off, producer Joel Soisson (who had no directing experience) took over and directed 30 more minutes of footage to piece together an 85 minute cut.
The commentary on the 4K disk is apparently just Lustig and Soisson trashing the production so I definitely want to hear that.
