I think it's pretty normal. You get a set that's well suited to your guys, get them super comfortable with reads off it and spam it relentlessly because a lot of in game stuff is just feel and chemistry.
From what I've seen, most teams have some version of a go-to play or pet action they like to run, particularly in late game situations. Some teams are more egregious than others- both Terry Stotts and Quinn Snyder used to really like spread pick and roll on the Jazz/Blazers for example.

But going through the college on/off data, Kessler was like twice as impactful of a defender as Lively, so that seems overly optimistic.

I understand team defense is more important but surely players have individual defensive tendencies to exploit... e.g. guys who always bite at pump fakes, guys who don't get back in transition, guys who are susceptible to reach in fouls.
