Giddey is the clear weak link for the thunder. They should have traded for pj, they don't have a PF on that entire roster
By You got 14 bricks right there? Go To PostGiddey is the clear weak link for the thunder. They should have traded for pj, they don't have a PF on that entire rosterI'm pretty convinced at this point that "big, pass first PG" is a scam, none of them can shoot and most of them can't defend. Giddey is just one of its many faces.
By You got 14 bricks right there? Go To PostSGA throwing his head back on every single drive is grossI’m glad I don’t seem like an unreasonable hater on at least this one thing.

lmao why
They could've just hired him last season?? He's not a player's coach, IDK why they think he's an upgrade over Vogel.
Bud was still grieving his brother's death and probably wasn't very motivated to coach this past season.

It's an awkward situation because when he's actually on (like the Pels series) then he's kind of like Derrick White offensively from a role perspective, and will probably have a fair contract which is big given there's probably 3 max contracts going out between Shai/Jalen/Chet.
I like Bud but he's too serious a hire for a team like the Suns with deeply unserious roster construction and KD seems to demand a players coach with his personality.
KD wants a coach that will gently guide his thinking into getting him to play winning ball. He doesn't want someone that will tell him what needs to happen and why and be demanding of it and doesn't want someone that will just let him do whatever he wants.
There is no coach that fits what he wants.

By reilo Go To PostI bet he didn't like any one of Brooks, Donovan, nor Kerr, either.
He actually liked Brooks, but I attribute that more to his attitude worsening significantly after his OKC stent and his expectations being much lower back then.
I think it's less that he dislikes coaches and more that his rope is extremely short with them as far as results. And the results are basically finals or bust, potentially even chip or bust.
Edit: Thinking about it more, this is where the Wizards miscalculated *completely* with acquiring KD back in the Wall era when they fired Brooks. Yes KD likes Brooks, but he had written him off as a winning coach that he'd want to play for again by that point. It's partially why they didn't even get an interview. The Brooks hire was actually a very bad hire for a team that was already not that serious in terms of contending.
By DY_nasty Go To PostBuilding a team around KD is harder than people realize too.Guys who don't want to move off-ball and take what the defense gives them and instead want to run the show and get to "their" spots that they love or just be bystanders while waiting to be spoonfed definitely make it hard to build around them. At least KD usually gives a fuck about defense the last few seasons.

At least KD usually gives a fuck about defense the last few seasons.I mean part of the problem is that for most of his career, doing what he always did was winning basketball. It's probably hard for him to accept that he's old now and teams aren't scared of him driving anymore, or that being an elite midrange shooter is just not that important in 2024 if it's the primary goal of a possession. Maybe a new coach can get him to optimize his offense for where his body actually is now, but I get the sense that he just hated playing the role he did on the Warriors so much that he'd rather lose playing his way than win playing that way. Like didn't that "leak" from his camp basically say he hates standing in the corner and thinks it's bad offense (which I'm sure Vogel disagreed with him on considering he shoots fucking 53% on wide open threes)?
So, basically what I said, then. He doesn’t want to be told to do that. He wants to be convinced to do it. But he isn’t willing to be convinced because he enjoys his play style more. So, nothing changes and no coach will work for him.
By blackace Go To Postkinda need a facilitatorAny decent facilitator for KD is going to use him as a decoy far more often than he likes lol
Durant is going to fucking love the Big 3 after he retires from the NBA. Gets to play exactly how he wants with no NBA accomplishments to worry about. Could see his career in that league being as long as his career in the NBA. Hoop until he physically can't anymore.

By reilo Go To PostHis logic is probably something like "with the talent we have, the only way we could be losing is that we have bad coaching, we need someone who knows how to win a championship."
but why

In the Trail Blazers annual end-of-season interviews, Olshey led the blame away from the players, saying that “the first-round loss and the defensive rating at 29 was not a product of the roster.”Sounds familiar!
It was a product of the roster.
I think we have double the TOs than we have made FGs and Brunson is having an awful game and we only down 8
