Beasley is unplayable
Would love to see what his defensive coverage looked like those 14 times because I have the feeling he might not have been quite that open most of the time.
Kinda figured Miami would just chuck 3’s
That’s how you beat them
Hope Celtics brick their shit and make your shit

By friskySHOOKface Go To PostKinda figured Miami would just chuck 3’sCeltics have the fourth best three point defense in the league, and two of the four better teams are eliminated from the playoffs. The other is the Pelicans. They also have the second best three point percentage in the league (behind the Thunder). So yeah in theory getting into a shootout is the Heat's best strategy, but it's still not actually a good strategy because the Celtics are the team best equipped to win a shootout in the league.

By Koko Go To PostTotally anecdotally but feels like properly running a fast break is a skill that's slowly dying.I think it's one of a few consequences of small fast guards with tight handles and good decisionmaking skills getting slowly squeezed out of the league. I'm not sure it's actually made transition PPP worse though.
By Sharp Go To PostI think it's one of a few consequences of small fast guards with tight handles and good decisionmaking skills getting slowly squeezed out of the league.Definitely
It's probably another consequence of the 3 point shooting focus, with the other players running to the corners instead of cutting to the basket.
It's a bit hard to compare between years since transition offense was massively juiced after the take foul was added, but I think transition PPP has been on a massive upward trend for at least 10 years (didn't look further) though it's possible it stalled in 2019 outside of the take foul. So teams might not be executing their gameplan as well as they used to, but it's more efficient than ever.

But they are down 3. This isn't last year's Celtics, they don't actually need to win the shootout to win the game.
By DY_nasty Go To Postthe heat roster is bums thoSure, but the Celtics beat some good teams this year while being outshot by a lot. I basically don't think running a gimmick offense gives you that good a shot of winning a series against them this year if that's all you have.

a) shot a worse 3PT% than their opponent
b) shot below 30% from three
c) made less threes than their opponent
So to say that the Celtics don't need to win the three-point shootout to win may still be true (I didn't look at their wins tbf), but if they don't their opponent sure seems to win a lot!
the heat are hilarious man i fully believe they'd find a way back to the finals if Jimmy was healthy rn
By reilo Go To PostBy my count, 16 of the Celtics 18 losses came when they eitherThe Celtics are exactly average on opponent 3P% in losses (37.3%), meaning whether they win or lose doesn't particularly come down to how well the opponent shot compared to any other team. They also shoot worse in losses than any all but two other teams in the league (32.4%; the other two are the Magic and Knicks); they lead the league in own 3P% differential between wins and losses, meaning they are more likely to win shooting below their own average from three than any other team in the league. There is just not much evidence that "outshoot them" is a good way to beat the Celtics except inasmuch as it's a good way to beat any team in the league.

By reilo Go To PostExcept in 16 of their 18 losses!"They shot really badly in most of their losses" doesn't mean they are particularly reliant on the three to win, it means they usually need to shoot very badly to lose.
By You got 14 bricks right there? Go To PostCeltics aren't beating the NuggetsJokic said that knowing how to win when things don't go your way is the hard part.
I don't think the Celtics have that.
By reilo Go To PostJokic said that knowing how to win when things don't go your way is the hard part.Nuggets have near identical own and opponent three point shooting in both wins and losses to the Celtics (except that the Nuggets need opponents to shoot much worse in their own wins). Which is the team that needs things to go their way?

By reilo Go To PostAnd yetThe Nuggets are 0-8 in games where an opponent shoots 45% or higher against them this season. The Celtics are 4-6. Both teams are 0-2 when an opponent shot 50% or better from three against them (0-3 now for the Celtics), but objectively the Celtics do a better job of winning games with very high opponent three point shooting than the Nuggets do.
