It ain't just in a vacuum, dude. I literally just said to kill the verticality rule as well if you're gonna kill the charge circle. If a defender is already in the spot it makes no sense that he can only challenge a shot perfectly vertically while the offensive player is moving horizontally.
By s y Go To Postyes the league needs to reward the offensive player more, that makes senseim sayin
By reilo Go To PostEnable the defender near the charge circle to actually challenge the shot by killing the verticality rule that is never accurately enforced.if you own your position as a defender in the open court and on the perimeter, then why not in the paint?
its hard enough that defenders have to weigh 'verticality' in real time and even have the body control to maintain the appearance of verticality while absorbing contact as well. then they have to guess release points to stay ahead of goaltending too.
out of control offensive players shouldn't be bailed out more than they already are and removing charges straight up encourages more of that
By DY_nasty Go To Postif you own your position as a defender in the open court and on the perimeter, then why not in the paint?I agree with you, that's why I said kill the verticality rule as well as it makes no sense. Offensive players can go in shoulder first into a defender that was already in the paint and the defender will lose that call 9/10 times because of "verticality", and that's a huge disadvantage.

I don't know why you think a future where the verticality rule and the charge circle are removed will result in calls being more favorable to the defender.
Because it would allow the defender to absorb the contact initiated by the offensive player. Right now the only way that's allowed is if the defender is in the spot and is perfectly vertical at their attempt to defend the shot.
that's a foul tho lol
the fact that refs at least have to decide one way or the other vs "contact = foul" is the only thing interior defenders can rely on in that sense. and that's before we get to non-calls being absurd and subjective.

I won't call his name out… But it was Grant Williams
you know a story is good when it starts like this

By Kibner Go To Posta draft threadComplete coincidence, probably just a lot of people thinking the same way looking at this draft.

This is a trend I'd been noticing recently... it feels like a lot of recent upside swing big SGs/small SFs haven't worked out, despite that archetype being what a lot of NBA teams are prioritizing in the draft. Not sure if we're just in a bit of a rut with those guys like we were with centers in the mid 2010s, but I wonder if teams start stop falling in love with them just because they might be Kawhi. Meanwhile I feel like basically every center the last few years has hit (at least first rounders).
I can't wait for someone in the lottery to move up and we lose our pick to OKC. Really going to make this tanking feel great.
I wonder how much of that is because rosters are bigger now? You draft for potential and use your two ways for guys who can contribute but have a lower ceiling.
that's just an insanely difficult position and it's not like there's a real pathway from raw af wing to NBA starter
plus I think teams simply prefer a solid rotation guy at the 2/3 instead of crossing fingers there for 3-4 years and overpaying for the privilege
Michael Porter jr as your guy lol just imagine

Teams will never give up on drafting the really athletic wing that needs to be taught how to actually play basketball. The worst one in the last few years was Zhaire Smith, they said my boy was a 6'3" power forward in HS, you can't realistically expect someone to be able to go from HS PF to NBA wing with only 1 year of college between.
Its actually wild. People say hitting a MLB pitch is one of the hardest things in sports, but ball handling at the NBA level essentially requires a lifetime of training on top of having the spatial awareness and coordination of a pilot
By domino Go To PostSomeone in the comments proposed making corner threes an offensive three seconds area and that actually sounds... kind of great? Don't think I've heard that proposal before but it makes complete sense, corner 3 eFG% is just as high as a paint shot for a lot of players but it can't really be defended the same way.

Will lead to even more missed calls.

By reilo Go To PostI'm ready to get rid of the corner threethat would be weird, limiting where a player can shoot.
