Idk man high ankle issues for dudes that large aren't good either. Plus you never know if he fucked up his foot.

Sixers for sure, but everyone else, no.
Pelicans, Celtics and Bucks have been healthy and winning and their drop is steep.

Why waive him NOW? They waived him after the cutoff where he could still sign with a playoff team. That's kinda shitty.

By reilo Go To PostWhy waive him NOW? They waived him after the cutoff where he could still sign with a playoff team. That's kinda shitty. It was implied by Jazz beat writers they let him (his agent) talk to teams in an attempt to find a team before the deadline. Presumable they weren't able. He was waived now to clear room for a roster spot.
Funner for twitter to act like he just wasn't ultra washed and nobody wanted him though.
But they could've waived him two weeks ago which was after the trade deadline and before the playoff roster spot deadline?
By reilo Go To PostBut they could've waived him two weeks ago which was after the trade deadline and before the playoff roster spot deadline? But that changes nothing if no team was willing to sign him?
By diehard Go To PostBut that changes nothing if no team was willing to sign him?Signing and trading for are different things.
By reilo Go To PostSigning and trading for are different things. They traded for him at the deadline, then allowed him (at least that is what i've inferred) to speak to teams after that concerning their interest in picking him up should he be released. The trade deadline wasn't a factor here.
By reilo Go To PostFVV's big knock in college (besides being even smaller / shorter wingspan than Reed) was he literally could not score at the rim (sub 40% FG% his senior year), and his three point shooting wasn't good enough to make up for it (sub 40% every year in college). Which never changed from college, he still scores 40% at the rim and under 40% from three, but his defense and ball handling alone have been enough to make him a valuable player on a contender.
Reed is scoring 53% from three and 55% from two including about 65% at the rim with 90% of his shots unassisted (Kyrie shot 66% his freshman year on 95% unassisted, for comparison). He also has better defensive metrics across the board. "Taller FVV who shoots like Klay from three and Kyrie at the rim" would be like an MVP level player lol, I'm pretty sure teams do not need to expect him to hit that upside for him to go top 5.
By reilo Go To Post"Reed Sheppard, Future MVP" - SharpI don't think he's actually going to do that in the league lol. I just think he has a super high floor since he has so many ways he can contribute, and much higher upside than people think (even if reaching it is unlikely). Which is pretty much what you want in a top 5 pick, especially in this draft where no one has clearly separated themselves. Like yeah there's no Wemby, but more generally the young prospects who are actually tall and athletic just haven't been very good this year. There's no Paolo or Chet or Miller type guy. Topic is probably the closest thing to a traditional flawed but hyper athletic prospect with star upside, and he will probably go too low as is tradition for top international prospects who aren't 7'4".
By DY_nasty Go To PostHe's being really, really nice by not saying Scoot with a jumper 🤣Nah Scoot is a very different type of prospect. Although it's true that if Scoot shot like 45% from three on high volume in the G league the Scoot for #1 truthers would have been way more prominent.

By DY_nasty Go To PostDalton is going top 5 and its crazy to mePlayers drafted in the top 5 who were 23 on draft night (like Dalton Knecht will be) in the last 20 classes (from the 2004-5 draft to the 2023-4 draft):
- Nobody. But if you want we can count Wesley Johnson who turned 23 like a week after the draft (#4 overall in 20210). He had a short peak as a decent bench player but was terrible for the majority of his career.
Players drafted in the top 5 who were 22 on draft night in the last 20 classes:
- Shelden Williams (#5 overall in 2006). Massive bust.
- Hasheem Thabeet (#2 overall in 2009). Massive bust.
- Kris Dunn (#5 overall in 2016). Solid role player, though not what you'd hope for from a #5 pick.
Players drafted in the top 5 who were 21 on draft night, but 22 for most of the season, in the last 20 classes:
- Emeka Okafor (#2 overall in 2004). Bust, though he eventually became a solid bench player.
- Adam Morrison (#3 overall in 2006). Massive bust.
- Evan Turner (#2 overall in 2006). Bust. He stuck in the league for a long time as a role player but he got way more chances than he deserved because of his draft pedigree.
- De'Andre Hunter (#4 overall in 2019). Okay bench player but not what you'd hope for from a #4 pick.
- Keegan Murray (#4 in 2022). Too early to say, but his first two seasons haven't been promising.
Like this isn't me cherrypicking there is literally not a single hit from anyone even close to Knecht's age drafted top 5 in 20 years and the best of the bunch so far is Kris Dunn. And there are barely any such picks to start with, especially lately (the last guy who was actually 22+ on draft night was drafted in 2016). Even the terrible GMs in the early 2000s who picked guys off vibes wouldn't dare use a top 5 pick on Knecht.
out of that list, okafor is like.... it. lol
i think there's a version of him that has a decent career if larry brown doesn't clown him for pilates

By diehard Go To PostI thought Keegan Murray was pretty good. His 3 point shooting has regressed this year though.Keegan definitely looked on paper like the most likely to succeed of any of them pre-draft, but he just... hasn't been great. Like I said it's early though so he could become a good player, but top 5 pick worthy? I dunno. He doesn't really contribute much when he's not shooting and he hasn't been lights out.
