According to the contract, which was reviewed by The Athletic, the final three years of the deal are no longer guaranteed after Williamson was able to only play in 29 games last season. By missing more than 22 games last season, Williamson triggered a clause that turned the salary he is owed for the 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons from guaranteed to non-guaranteed.$197m contract, non-guaranteed. Not that it matters but this might be the first and maybe last NFL-style contract the NBA will see. Pretty unprecedented.
Beyond the shift for the final three years of the deal, Williamson is at risk of losing even more in guarantees if he doesn’t hit certain marks during regular checks of his weight and body fat. Under the contract, the sum of Williamson’s weight in pounds and his body fat percentage must be less than 295. He was listed as weighing 285 pounds last season, meaning his body fat could not be higher than 10 percent.285?
Kind of wild it only took 22 games to trigger it since like 1/3 the league was missing that much time. Also that is a trade waiting to happen.
they will never waive him but pretty wild for him that this is a possibility now.
better not get a career ending injury m9.

Contract the Pistons if they can't do it. Shoutout to Ainge for being tired of this team not knowing how to tank properly.
I guess this is the asb for my nephew, no games till Jan 4th. He had a not so great game 2 where he came out gunning cause of his success in the first game, he let it throw his game off and got benched in the 2nd quarter cause he was moping around. He came out in the 3rd and rebounded like his life depended on it cause we were yelling at him to be active and not just spectate. He scored some but was pretty upset with how he played despite the fact they won. He had a great game 3 though, bunch of highlights, a low pickup Kyrie finish through contact and he dropped a kid with a behind the back, he and his friend ran a really nice give and go on the baseline too. He's starting to see the game and ways to get open without the ball or find teammates.
They are 3-0, they absolutely demolished a team yesterday 52-14. During the break I'm gonna work with him on finishing and shooting off the catch from the wings, he also needs freethrow work, he makes threes but misses freethrows 🧐

Progress isn't linear!
Also, a lot of top-level veteran athletes have talked about that younger athletes come into a new season with a bunch of new skills and hunger ready to show off. They start out hot and then hit a wall once the season gets into a grind. Learning how to do things for the long-term is also a skill.
It's good you're helping him identify the adrenaline where you think your last game is gonna translate to your next game. It's not, you gotta put in work to make that consistency happen.

If he can make 3s but struggles with free throws, my understanding from hearing others talk about it is that it is a mental thing more than a skill thing. Not sure of good ways to train it.
For the physical part, maybe get him to take a free throw after every short break between drills? Could help him get used to taking one after going from 100 to 0 like in a game.
As for the mental part… not sure how to train that.

I see that with kids, they doing all these moves in practice like 5 dribble setups and you're not gonna do it in an actual game, or very rarely. All these kids got deep bags and can't dribble under pressure, which I prepared him for.
I'm not hard on him, despite the sports dad/uncle vibes I don't get mad at him for anything he does or doesn't do. I just tell him to play hard and give max effort on defense, he got benched cause he wasnt rebounding, he just assumed his teammates would do it despite the fact he's the 2nd tallest kid on the team. So after being benched, he has been killing it on the glass, he learned that the coach won't let him skate on that which is what I told him all last year. Energy finds the ball.
Maybe the best thing my dad taught me was how to finish while taking and expecting contact... I feel a lot of young players want to look a certain way or at least mechanically flow through all layups the same more or less.
Playing with older crowds is irreplaceable there. Playing as the weakest guy on the court one month then being the strongest against your peers the next is a legit awakening moment 🤣 Still, those lumps taken help you understand the value of angles, leverage, the body control you're capable of, and your baselines for drawing contact in the first place.
Free throws though - two things. Most kids are just gonna be shaky because they just grow too fast. You can sorta try limiting the routine to something as short and refined as possible. Less dribbles, more focus on core/shoulders/base.

I don't think he takes them enough in practice when he's not with me, he does form shooting on his own but he probably just does what kids do and starts tossing up some garbage once he gets a feel 😂 he made them over the summer in his development league but that's also when I was working out with him everyday and he was probably taking 100 per workout.
The hardest thing with training him is the time between when we workout, he does other sports during the other seasons so he's not yet specializing in basketball. Spring will be track, 100/200 and one of the jumps, so we just have the summer and weekends during the year.
By Pac-2 Go To PostDon't listen to the free throw advice. Teach the two minute Giannis routine.

My main focus in the summer was physicality on drives, shoulder to chest and hit them hard enough you see snot bubbles. He drives through other kids and knows how to sidestep, swing, euro etc off the contact.
Playing with older kids is what caused the big jump for him, he went to a summer camp in Harlem (Durants brotherhood sister sol) and played with the high school kids. He said only 1 HS could dunk at his school, while almost all these 15-17 yr olds were dunking at his camp 😂
