Had a look at Ballon d’or voting. Noticed this was the first year without a La Liga player in the top 5 since 1995.
By Oddinho Go To PostJulian Alvarez is around Diogo Jota’s level. He’s not on the level of Diaz, Nunez, Gakpo or Salah.
Odd your killing me man.
Gakpo 💀 Nunez 💀. You could present an argument for Diaz despite not producing at the level needed to justify being better than Alvaraz.
Jota is closer to trossards level than he is Alverez.

Probably Odd saying Alvarez isn't on the same level as Gakpo, if I had to choose
Meier not even entertaining the idea that Benzema had a better season in his Ballon D'or winning year was also pretty good

Fucking hell.
Messi winning the Ballon because of a couple of games in a blood tournament organized by the Kingpin is some Coca Cola shit.

By NiceGuy Go To PostThe Balon d'Or is always thrown out of whack a bit in World Cup years I think, and I've never been able to decide whether I agree or not with how much of a sway it causes. It is by far the biggest thing you can win in football, maybe even bigger than everything else combined, so if you lead your team to winning it you'll always be in with a shout of the balloon. That's before you get to the things that shouldn't matter but just do, like the fact that Messi is the GOAT and it's nice for him to win another one right at the end of his serious playing career.By that logic, Götze should've won it for WC 2014.

Where is Alavarez in this is the important question
Jota is good, hence why he plays for Liverpool and has a very solid scoring record. 35 in 84. That’s very good for a wide player.
Alvarez has 13 goals in 40 appearances for City. Where on God’s green earth are you guys getting this delusion that he’s putting up world class numbers?

By Kidjr Go To PostWhere is Alavarez in this is the important questionLevel with Nunez I think. He's in that very comfortable spot that some players hit where everyone will bang on about how underrated and actually world class he is, and then ignore the games where he doesn't do anything.
Very good player though, and should get better as he gets more starts.
Sporting is having their best start of a season since a win started to be 3 points back in 95/96, we had never reached 25 points in the first 9 league matches.
Ruben Amorim also become the 2nd manager with most wins in the history of Sporting with 118 wins from 172 matches (68.6% win rate) beating Paulo Bento's 117 wins from 184 matches (60.3% ) but still far from Joseph Szabo's 236 wins from 327 matches (72.2%).

I'd say Alvarez (and Gakpo, for that matter) needs to play more games before people start judging. Particularly with all those sub appearances

Stats really aren't everything, but even if you do just want to do down that road...Alvarez has a direct goal contribution once every 107 minutes for City compared to 116 for Jota while he's been at Liverpool.
Then you factor in the fact that he's just clearly a much better footballer, contributed in a pretty major way to Argentina's World Cup win etc etc
Edit: Actually, saying he;s clearly a much better footballer isn't really fair. I do think it's clear he's got a far higher ceiling though

Nice guy with the correct assessment.
I don't believe Odd believes Gakpo is better or even comparable to Alavarez lol
By Vini.lad Go To PostI'm slightly at #TeamOddinho here. Think Alvarez is great, but a bit overrated.
I'm not even mad at that assessment vini.
Where do you stand vs jota, I just don't see how anyone can think jota is better. Ofc opinions and all but was just shocked by that one.

Jota has destroyed us so much, I think he's immense when in form
Think they're at the same level
Stats are the pinnacle of sporting achievement.
This is why Zidane, Bergkamp, Iniesta, David Silva and Zola were dogs unworthy of praise.

By Oddinho Go To PostHaaaland isn’t an exciting player to watch in my opinion. He’s just a physical freak with superb finishing. He isn’t versatile enough relative to other world class players in his position.
Sad before that Haaland is just a freak Inzaghi.
I don’t think he is a good all round footballer.
Hot take.
Totti consistently getting Roma second in the league deserved a Balloon. Just as impressive as some players winning the league.
Imagine your second best player being Mancini.

Nah peak Diaz absolutely destroys peak classic Darwin. Though right now Darwin probably is better, Diaz not been back to his best yet since his injury. And Darwin probably has more margin for progression.
Salah = Minamino >>>> Diaz > Nunez >>>>>>> Jota > Gakpo = Alvarez.

Messi is a great passer, dribbler, scorer of long range goals, goals in the penalty area, free kick taker…
