By sohois Go To PostBellingham is basically that but in midfield rather than attackMusiala too. He's another special talent that stands out from the rest.
Although maybe I'm being too nostalgic in feeling that Rooney was just better than both. That Euro 2004 is seared into my consciousness.
By Freewheelin Go To PostFair to say Rooney was underrated? Amazing player.I think he's in the top 5 for best ever PL players. Henry is first and Rooney is somewhere in the other 4 positions. I think Keane and Beckham make that shortlist too.
Dunno who rounds out that list. Maybe Salah?
Rooney is the best English player of all time, the best Premier League player of all time, and the best United player of all time.
By Cleff Go To PostPeak international break has me thinking about football from a few years ago. There's never been a footballer quite like Wayne Rooney since he retired. Never seen as talented a teenager play for United. He had the mix of pace, power and dribbling ability that so few possess. I look at the most in demand young footballers in the PL right now like Evan Ferguson. He's a great prospect, but Rooney was a different level altogether.
Could play anywhere across the front line and as a 10 even if his technique was a bit inconsistent. He probably peaked earlier than some and was finished at the top level by the age of 30. But that's a part of his appeal imo. Dominating games at such a young age was bound to take its toll eventually.
If an 18 year old Rooney were to be sold by Everton in 2023 you're looking at £150m minimum. Maybe Bellingham is at the same level? But it's at a different position. And quite honestly, I just think Rooney was better at the same age.
Comes down to just not taking care of his body.
Modern football is 24/7, 365 days a years. Rooney enjoyed himself too much when not playing football.
Always reminds me of Ricky Hatton. You cN’t only take care if yourself a few months before a fight while Mayweather was never not in shape.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostExcept for Ronaldo I don’t think I’d put any United player in the top 5 best PL players tbh.I'd put Scholes or Keane in there
As much as I love Scholes, I think Beckham and Keane were the more important players for United during their years of dominance.
Scholes was the more skilled player. But in terms of influence, I don't think he matched the other two.

5 best PL players is very, very hard. I’d probably go Henry top. After that, no idea. Ronaldo, Bale and Suarez burned bright and fast. Shearer is top scorer but won little. Scholes, Giggs, Keane, Beckham all much of a muchness. Bergkamp, Zola and Cantona some early kwaliteh. Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Ferdinand, Cole all real longevity. Salah defo up there with the best. Vieira, Kane, Rooney…
My #hottake is actually KDB is the best midfielder in PL history.

By WoodenLung Go To Postdiego costa > john terry > jesper grønkjær > drogba > lampard
premier league top 5 imo
No premier ass?
As ever, defenders and goalkeepers are basically ignored in top players lists. Where are Allison, Terry, Kompany, etc?
1. Henry
2. Rooney
3. Ashley Cole
4. Rio
5. Scholes
Would be my top5 based on player quality and longevity of performing in the PL. Lampard could come in for Scholes because for a midfielder his goalscoring was a joke. Think KDB will come into that top5 once he ends his time at City
Hard to pick a top 5/10 without spliiting it into positions.

No
We spent half his career figuring out his best position imo

I wouldn’t say Kompany was close to Rio, Terry, Campbell, Adams, VVD but I know I’m in the minority there.
VVD’s peak the best defender I remember tbh.

Just a shit grønkjær
By Perfect Blue Go To PostI’d take KDB over someone like David Silva in a top PL players list, easily. If sitting on your arse watching a team win the World Cup makes you a World Cup winner, then you're talking to a five-time World Cup winner.

Yaya Toure was a far more important player to City than David Silva. And I wouldn't have Toure in a top 10 either.

But fr. Juan Mata contributed more to that title.

Rooney
Keane
Beckham
Drogba
Drogba only had one or two good PL seasons iirc. Just a HUGE big game player.

Every team wants something like that.
Henry was a massive bottler in cup finals
Salah has been kept pretty quiet in the finals he's played as well. Unfortunately the one where he really looked up for it he had his arm torn off after five minutes.
