Grantland: FIFA is "spreading human misery and death on an international scale."

A couple days old, but a great article that everyone should read. No way to remain apathetic to FIFA's corruption from this angle, if you have any basic decency.

So I’ll put this as simply as possible. FIFA corruption matters because FIFA’s actions keep killing people. There is a clear line connecting the absurd antics of the aristo-doofs in Zurich and the 4,000 migrant workers whom the International Trade Union Confederation estimates will die on construction projects in Qatar before the 2022 World Cup. There is a clear line connecting FIFA officials to the murders of whistle-blowers in South Africa, to the bulldozing of schools and poor neighborhoods (so tourists won’t have to see any unpleasantness), to widespread accusations of the misuse and theft of public funds, to the clearing out of Brazilian favelas, to the violent suppression of dissent by governments that weren’t phenomenally good at tolerating dissent in the first place. This is why you should care about FIFA corruption: not because it’s the equivalent of NCAA-type malfeasance (which is bad enough), but because it’s spreading human misery and death on an international scale.

I want it all to fucking burn. I want a new administrative body. I want FIFA in the same grave as QPR.
Kind of fucked up there hasn't been the same shake up of the Olympics though when they've done similar bullshit.
The Olympics haven't really put the modern Olympic Games in straight-up slave nations, I don't think. Corrupt nations like Russia? Yeah, and they are just as corrupt as FIFA when it comes down to it. But the Olympic Committee hasn't tried to put the Games into places like Qatar... not yet anyways.
Also, the Olympics at least hit the USA every once in a while, especially the Winter Games. The USA hasn't seen FIFA on its shores for 20 years. I'm almost certain that if FIFA played it the same as the IOC has, the USA would not be investigating right now.
It's a start, though.

"Bulldozing of schools and poor neighborhoods"
Tell me what went down in Beijing wasn't at all similar.
I don't need to touch on "widespread accusations of the misuse and theft of public funds", do I?
Let's not play like the IOC isn't dirty along the same lines. I bet they're doing the exact same shit in Rio de Janeiro that FIFA is doing as we speak.

The IOC is probably just as bad.
But it's even MORE international. And EVERY country has a vested interest there. I'm not sure it's possible to prosecute those people. Or, ever will be.

Word.
Well, maybe this FIFA investigation is the beginning of something. In all fairness, I think ALL sports organizations, at home or abroad, need some investigations tbh.

Anything is possible if the people in power are careless enough and are too drunk off of hurbis to cover their tracks.
I mean, the only reason these investigations even started was due to FIFA executives laundering money through Bank of America accounts. I mean... that shit is amateur hour, tbh.
