so, it's not question of whether we can afford to sign world class players but it is rather a question of whether we want to sign world class players.
we can offered to splash big on a playmaker this season AND a fullback, for sure.

By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostI don't remember him doing it much at the world cup and especially not against Italy when I have seen him play, although he scored a consolation goal against us.
Also seeing how Coq was most likely are most consistent player since the turn of the year is an incredibly worrying thing, seeing as he might be the least talented player on the team.
I feel you're looking at football a little one dimensionally, of course there are players far more talented than Coq. But I'd probably argue the same thing for Chelsea and say Matic was probably the most consistent performer over Hazard.
Having great positional sense, making interceptions and distrubuting the ball is something far easier to be consistent at than unlocking defences and ghosting past players. It's why attackers are and always will have a premium over defensive players.
By Oddinho Go To PostAll those things are quantifiable by statistics, just not the ones you'd find on Squawka
How can you quantify weight of pass? Or positional sense/awareness needed to buy yourself time to pick a pass?

I hope Juve have at least enquired about Verratti. Maybe he doesn't want to come, or maybe the asking price is too high. But I hope just someone rang up Paris and asked what's what.
I will fucking blow my top if Juve end up signing Saponara for more money than what Verratti would have cost those few years ago.

You make a good point about the ease to be consistent at those things. I just don't think he is especially brilliant at all those things you mentioned. He is a mid table type of player, we really need to upgrade that position if we want to challenge.

That is unfair, Milan were dying when he bought them. He made Milan once again great in the late 80s and it was he who pushed for the idea of the CL.

There is no point British teams signing players from Europe now. Wait for Greece to default, the Euro to plummet and pick them up for millions of pound cheaper
By fadetoblack Go To PostSaponara latest:I suspect La Gazzetta's figures are fabricated. Di Marzio said €11-12m from Juve, and €15m from us - the latter, of course, prompting the remark that €15m isn't enough.
We've offered €12m to Empoli with the agreement that he can stay there on loan for next season.
Napoli have offered €13m.
Empoli want €20m.
If we're to spend €20m on someone this summer, I'd rather it be Darmian.

By Yurt Go To PostYUPWhatever. I remain convinced it is essentially Berardi's fault. Sassuolo wanted him to stay for another season, Juventus were (allegedly) very keen on bringing him to Torino this summer. Even if Juve didn't have most of the pull in this situation, which we obviously do (€€€), it would've still been up to the player to decide one way or another. And he chose to remain at Sassy for YET ANOTHER SEASON, with absolutely nothing to gain, if not a bigger chance to be called up for Euro 16. Which at 20yo really shouldn't be his priority. And he has nothing to learn by staying in Reggio as well, playing with Missiroli and Magnanelli for the fourth consecutive season.

What this tells me is that he clearly doesn't have the balls to face the competition at Juve. Dybala had them, and that's when it looked like Tevez might stay for one more season. As did Zaza, after Mandzukic was already a done deal. Not like this, Mimmo, not like this.
The ball is in your court, Shanksu.

I think it is a terrible decision for the club and him. I think he is currently a MUCH better player than Morata and Dybala and has the potential to absolutely light the league and Europe on fire had he gone to Turin. I don't see how the club can allow such a thing to happen. I actually think it is criminal.
As for him. I don't think he can progress another year playing for Sassuolo. Sure he might score more goals and get more assists, but will is actual game improve? I don't think it can play with the level of talent there, especially as Zaza is gone. He needs to be playing on a team that bosses the football around.
Even Horncastle laments the fact that the Azzurrini have nobody to provide for him.
He carried Sassuolo at times last season, and watching him against Sweden and Portugal shows just how hard he has to work to carry his teammates. Against Sweden we also saw him start to get frustrated towards Swedish players at the end, and frustrated with his own players against Portugal.
This decision makes me want a take a Berardi size elbow to the face of Juve and him.
I am so fucking angry now.
Sure he wants guaranteed playing time for Euro 16, if he was afraid he couldn't beat the likes of Dybala and Morata then i don't know what he is thinking. He should be leading Italy to Euro 16 as the top goalscorer for the champions, not the top scorer for a mid table at best side.
Fuck this I am pissed off.
And I swear if any cunt wears the number 10 next season then I am gonna fucking smash my laptop up the first time I see it in a game.
edit: lol, agree with everything Zabo. I am so disappointed in him.
Honestly, I think its fair for a player to value guaranteed playing time over trophies and a fight for their place. If he doesn't feel ready to win that fight, fair enough.
By Hitch Go To PostHonestly, I think its fair for a player to value guaranteed playing time over trophies and a fight for their place. Spending most of his season on the bench rather than the pitch won't transform him into one of the best in the world.

He would have gone into training on the same level as Mand, Zaza, and Dybala. None of them are guaranteed playing time. They are all equals and will have to earn it.
Instead he is gonna have to fight for a spot in a year against players who are already established with the Juve system.
By Hitch Go To PostHonestly, I think its fair for a player to value guaranteed playing time over trophies and a fight for their place. If he doesn't feel ready to win that fight, fair enough.Sure, there's nothing "wrong" with that. But it's a choice usually made by players like Di Natale.
What Shanks said. This was literally the perfect time for him to make a career move. Shame.
By Laboured Go To PostAssuming that he should stick with Juve this season because he'll obviously just oust established players and a £40 million new signing is a wee bit optimistic.Precisely. I hate this he-should-fight-for-his-spot mentality, because if he loses the fight it could hamper his entire career. They're willing to gamble on wasting his development for only a possibility of a breakout season, which seems incredibly myopic to me.
I'm not insisting that remaining at Sassuolo is necessarily the best of all possible options, either; but it's certainly better than rotting away receiving no minutes.

I've reconsidered, and want Henderson at the top of a 3, with Can and Lucas at the base. Front 3 of Coutinho, Firmino and a striker

By Kidjr Go To PostHow can you quantify weight of pass? Or positional sense/awareness needed to buy yourself time to pick a pass?
Successful through pass %, amount of through passes that go out of play, average distance of through passes, velocity of passes, would give you a pretty good idea. If you just mean general passing and not passing into space, then looking at how often the ball is miscontrolled after completing a pass would help. And they definitely track distance between nearest players when receiving the ball as well. I mean it'd be much easier to just watch him, but there's an incredible depth of information available that we don't have access to.

As Zabo said, Dybala had the balls to do. The fact is, training and working with the staff at Juve alone is the equivalent of playing a full season again for Sassuolo. He might have ended up with less goals and assist, but he would have developed into a better player.
Sassuolo only play on the counter, he is magnificent at that. But despite is Italian man of the match performances for the Azzurrini, he has shown that he needs to work on his game when it comes to playing possession football. he needs to be playing with better teammates and tactics.

By Laboured Go To PostAssuming that he should stick with Juve this season because he'll obviously just oust established players and a £40 million new signing is a wee bit optimistic. He wouldn't really have to 'oust' anyone though. At worst he'd be competing for the 3rd striker spot. And being as versatile as he is, he'd fit right in our 4-3-3 and even fill the trequartista role, if needed. If he's as good as we think he is, he'd get the minutes he needs to grow for sure. He doesn't need 3000+ of them to improve anyway. That's just a part of it. New / bigger club context, training with much better players / coaches, top level physical training regime, winning mentality, etc. He is or was by all accounts ready to move to a big club. He feels like he isn't, or simply doesn't want to. Fair game to him, but as far as I'm concerned, that's alarm bells going off. The last time something like this happened was with Criscito. I was right about him then, I pray to Ganesha I'm wrong now.

I completely agree that "playing with better teammates and tactics" will help him improve, hence the second half of the post you quoted, but there really needs to be an emphasis on that word playing. Training with them isn't enough, and Berardi shouldn't settle for that either.
I wish for his sake he could join a club like Fiorentina, where he'd be guaranteed more minutes than at Juve and would also get to play in a better squad than Sassuolo's.
