People were cheering when they saw points that reminded them about the originals, both in FF and Doom.
For Doom it is the violence, because apart from some minor enemy designs, nothing reminds of you of the former pixel mash.
The violence, and in particular the chainsaw are things that remind those people that this is Doom and it might be going into the same direction as the original.
Same went on with FF.
You saw midgard, the playground and Barret and Cloud and these were the points were the crowd particularly cheered.
