They also signed the guy who made Brothers' to make a game, so perhaps a more concerted effort to be like 07 EA and invest in new IP

but more likely some suits were doing a line and figured 'these indies games are mighty popular, lets do some of that shit'

whichever way it came about it is cool, smaller games are where the exciting stuff is nowadays. EA/Ubi/whoever need to lean into it.
