oh bby (just waiting for a tested, stable release)
Woof, altho my frame rate hasn't dropped below 60 in New Atlantis so I'm wondering if I'll bother.
By Laboured Go To PostOh FFS the laser cutter has a more powerful mode when you hold down alt fire.Oh bb 😅😅 I think that caught a lot of people out

Getting into That Part of a Bethesda game where I feel simultaneously overwhelmed in a good way by the amount of stuff to do at any one time but also in a bad way by the amount of stuff to do at any one time.
If I continue to play through it like I am at the moment I can honestly see it taking 100+ hours to finish the campaign and not even I have time for that. But I still don't just want to rush through and see the ending because I have developed a habit of being one-and-done with video games. Once I see the credits I am out. Just lose interest.
Time for somenerdreally excellent human being to curate a list of The Good Shit imo. Someone step up. inky is a good candidate.

AMD specifically stated that as the minimum for FSR3. Hasn’t stopped a lot of desperate people in the Steam Deck circles from acting like it’ll fix all their performance woes.

@Vapes, I'm not sure I've installed that mod you linked for the Deck correctly tbh, but it's my first time really looking at mods and shit lol

But, yeah, even Nvidia’s frame gen works better with high fps because it gets the needed samples in a shorter time period to work with and with less being changed from frame to frame, which would reduce various artifacts from showing up as well as the latency penalty being as bad.
I know you already know this so nothing new. :p
As far as the good stuff, oof... Well, very long post incoming. Tl;Dr: Do the main quest until cool stuff, then do factions. Vanguard for cool story, Ryujin for the best gameplay and writing, Freestar for a cool reward, Crimson fleet idk but it's space pirates. Side quests: do Mantis quest asap, explore Neon, Mars, visit the solar system in general. Kid stuff trait. Outpost and Ship building are very involved and long term. Not necessary if you don't plan to go 100hours+.
Right, the non-spoilery details...
...I like to stick to the factions that my character would naturally do so I haven't seen everything by any means and I'm also not trying to rush the storylines but just dipped my toes into every system. Here's my initial rec:
Sticking to main quest and factions is the best way to maximize the good stuff without burning out on side areas, because the surveying and out posting and discovering random locations does burn through unique locations fast.
The main quest is surprisingly the best thing to do to begin with. Once you discover the big secret (you'll know when you get there, The mission chain is called Into the Unknown), it's a good time to split your time with the factions.
UC Vanguard is the military/starship troopers-like faction. It's got pretty cool combat and atmospheric missions, you do a bit of everything (ground and space combat against humans and other stuff) and so far the one I've done the most. Gets a 👍
Ryujin is all about stealth, corpo espionage and intrigue. It's the kind of pathway that is honestly lacking in a game like Cyberpunk that straight up has a morally dubious corpo world. My character isn't the best suited for it, but after finally making it to Neon, might be the coolest faction overall.
Freestar Collective is so far the weakest faction, and pretty straightforward. But if you enjoy the space cowboy, dusty fantasy it might be good to do the stuff around Akila city. It's self contained and there some fun quests there. But, as far as I know, it might have one of the best rewards (very small spoiler)a new ship.
Crimson Fleet I haven't done at all. It might involve a lot more ship combat than the others. I also haven't done the red mile stuff. I think Smokey has.
As far as other must side content... Whenever you loot enemies they might drop notes or data pads that begin missions. Spacers in particular drop one that begins a quest called Mantis. It can be tough but so far it's one of the best things I've done all game. You can do it relatively early (lvl8-10ish).
I haven't done any real crimes but, don't be afraid of going to prison, is all I'll say.
The Kid Stuff trait is also gud and interwoven into all you do. It has some very cool rewards as well.
Companions are surpsingly good to have around, but they all get annoyed at you doing bad stuff, so don't have them around if that's your thing. I've only really travelled with Sarah, and her companion quests are alright but nothing special. I reckon Andreja is much more interesting to hang out with. Haven't hung out much with Sam or Barrett. Sam in particular might be the weakest unless you like a single dad schmaltzy cowboy around. You do have to do some mandatory stuff with him.
Cydonia in Mars has a whole rabbithole of quests I haven't done. The whole solar system has a whole bunch of cool quests and it's fun to explore. The main missions mostly sends you there tho. There's also a planet with a whole new unique settlement called Hopetown you can visitin one if the early level systems. Level 5-10 I think.
That's so far as I've seen. Haven't been much to The Well in Atlantis either, which is kinda the slums area. A lot of quests in Atlantis are short and a good way to get money, but they are messenger stuff. The things you pick up from mission boards is the radiant quests, meant to give you an excuse to put down outposts or survey planets, haul cargo, etc. Long term, repeatable content for credits. Can be skipped completely.
Game gets better the more you put into it. You also have to pick a lane and invest into it. Ship combat requires going deep into two or three skills and that's gonna take some time and levels, but if your are doing faction quests that require ship combat, it might be good to specialize sooner rather than later. I recommend at least the first level of piloting, and one or two damage specific skills.
Don't forget to hire and assign crew to your ship for combat and navigation boosts too.

Well, well, well, looks like the Starfield enjoyer has just logged on woken up.
I don't really understand the whole hiring ship crew and what it actually gives you. Also seems expensive.

Woke up at 6:30 m9. Humans can live off 3 hours sleep a day, no? It's inly 8:20 and I have to work and can't play yet 😭
Thank you inky. Think I will do as you suggested and mainline the quest until Cool Shit then go see which factions tickle my pickle... I already got arrested (thank mr 0% chance of hiding contraband) so I opened up the consequences of my actions there. And yes, although I have only spent about 3 minutes with Sam, I can already feel he is going to be an absolute bore "I'm a space dad" character.
Assigned Crew gives benefits to your ships or outposts. Can be managed from the menu, bottom left (ship menu).
IDK if it gives you full skill benefits you see in your skill tree or just a percentage, but the Constellation lads are free and have stuff like Astrodynamics that allow you to jump farther or they make ship repairs take less time, ship weapons do more damage, shields recharge faster. Stuff like that.
More crew more betterer I imagine.

As inky noted there is so much impressive stuff going on with consistent celestial orientation in this game. Just wish there were more ways to show it off.

Yeah I fucked it the first time too. Turns out Linux modding isn’t exactly the same as Windows modding.
It’s getting pretty frequent updates though, so currently I’m playing without it until the modder is done with it. It does seem to give a good 10-20% uplift in performance though. Baring in mind that 10-20% over 20FPS is only 2-4FPS.

It would be absolutely fantastic if the performance was better. For a lot of the game, it’s generally 30FPS which is fine. The big cities and some enemy encounters absolutely kill it though. Akila, Atlantis, etc. are a 20fps experience.
Still playable, just not pleasant. I’ve put 10 hours in on the deck and 2 hours in streamed to it from my pc. I’m just happy it works as well as it does, all things considered.
By Laboured Go To PostLove that you can Kobayashi Maru the UC Vanguard test.

Just wish there were more ways to show it off. There's a neat Cyberpunk mod that, whenever your wait, shows a cinematic time lapse of the city around you. God I'd love something similar here on a planetary scale. Hire me Todd!
Speaking of waiting and sleeping, because every planet has different cycles, there's time dilation so it actually shows you both how many hours are passing in the planet you're on, and how many "actual" hours, or days in Universal Time are passing.
I wonder if you check new Atlantis the day that annoying kid said was his birthday, if he's somewhere out there celebrating. In Fallout 4, Diamond City would actually have Christmas decorations on the 24th.
By Patriotism Go To PostYou lads got a list of must-have mods before this goes live at the dumb time of 1am BST?Honestly I think you’re good to go as is. Get the DLSS mod if you can use it but that’s about it.

Safe. The puredark dlss2 one on nexus? On a 2070 super so frame gen is out. Recommended preset/setting for it?
There's puredark's which has reshade for sharpening, and Luke's which doesn't.
Presets C or D are recommended. 67% scaling is the equivalent of DLSS Quality, but you can adjust it to your liking. Just need to turn FSR2 on, dynamic res off in settings and adjust sharpening in the reshade window by hitting Home.
I was using this one (luke's) which is more straightforward. No reshade/sharpening but it looks good imo:

Played about 3 hours last night it was pretty boring and the menus are terrible but good news it really does run pretty well on the series s
You spend a lot less time in the menus after the first few hours I’ve found. Still a lot of menus though.
Using the scanner on foot or in space can substitute the need for menus to travel. Or you can go directly to the Mission Log and travel to an objective from there.
Just got to the cyberpunk city.
Why is ship modding so damn expensive? I just want a thousand laser cannons on the front to annihilate every ship in space.
