It's more or less exactly what I expected it to be …
I was always hoping it would be Star Citizen/Elite Dangerous with a narrative focus. It seems more like a Bethesda game with a space theme.
I’m not disappointed per se, but I have to subvert my expectations at this point.
By Patriotism Go To PostAnything about ai or are the journalists not noticing if the game has any?One review saying its very dumb so it made the combat boring
I don't see anyone talking about whether dialogue and choices lead to different outcomes, something Fallout 4 failed horribly at.
By Zabojnik Go To PostThe video I posted has a portion on it. It's serviceable, nothing more, nothing less.

Crap exploration, crap ai.

Some choices in the main story seem to be consequential. But without looking at spoilers it’s hard to gauge.
By HonestVapes Go To PostThe engine gets far too much flack imo. Same used to happen with Call of Duty since the engine it used was based on the Quake III engine iirc.I will hear no slander on the q3 or q2 engines. Fantastic feeling engines that I love to this day.
I wish they could do ladders though, ngl.
By Kibner Go To PostI will hear no slander on the q3 or q2 engines. Fantastic feeling engines that I love to this day.
It wasn’t really slandering the original games/incarnations of the engine. More slandering the CoD devs for using an engine based off of something so old at the time.
Same happened with Fallout 76 because there was some code in the files relating to Morrowind and Quake III again funnily enough. Just gets used as a bludgeon to bash a game/dev team.
Still daft either way. Loads of good games are made with older game engines that get upgraded incrementally with each new release.
The Creation Engine has its obvious limits, but it works for the things that they want to do wrt item persistence, physics, and npc dynamic behaviour, modability, etc.
Star Citizen has been trying to make dynamic npcs with likes, dislikes, routines, needs like food and sleep, etc. for a decade now. $600m in funding and all they have to show for it is a bartender npc dragging a rag over a bar and being a drinks vendor. If there were 5 Skyrim like games out there that do all those things better I'd understand the cries for new tech, but there aren't.
If Bethesda moved to a new engine it'll probably take them a decade just to reach feature parity and for what? So people that don't like their games still don't like them even though they are prettier and TES VI is now a 2040 game?... bad investment imo.

Obviously there's something special about the engine since competitors can't even make decent copies of massively successful Bethesda games. Not even RDR2 matches the routine shit.
Zabu is probably tougher on SC than I even could be, cause he actually plays it. In theory, it's the ultimate dream game, but it has a lead director that will never allow anything to get done.

Looking at the decal collection for AC yurt posted in gaming. Whew, I wish this game had that for your ship.

So I am guessing that the new game plus is some system where at the end you get sent back to the beginning and and alter the story based on the knowledge you gained from the first play through.
Edit: eh just googled it and it was correct these guys seem to be overselling it.

It’s easy to see where Starfield gets its inspiration so new game + should lean into it. Does it unlock new quests?
Have a hard time believing it will change the game that much when compared to other games. Personally NG+ is my jam when done right, but it’s funny seeing people go from “it gets good after 20 hours” to “it gets good on new game +”. Didn’t expect this to be a thing 😂

Is Steam trolling me?
I bought the premium edition to play tonight (in one hour?) but it states in my library that it unlocks on the 6th.

Phew. At least we’re both potentially fucked. Already had a mare earlier when I bought it on cdkeys then wasn’t sure if they’d send the key before the 1st
By jjasper Go To PostThe “ending” of nier is like the end of the first act. Second time you play it is a different perspective that plays differently and adds to the story. The third time you play it is actually a sequel to the first 2 play throughs and further expands/completes the story.

This sounds kinda wild

Btw, searching for "don't believe his lies" has Todd Howard as a result.
SPOILERS don't read like what I experienced after finishing Nier, which was a tremendous experience.

Finishing Main Quest “One Giant Leap” will finish the story. There is no “Point of no Return” warning. It’s recommended to make a Manual Save at this point. If you don’t, you can still go back by reloading the oldest Autosave immediately when starting New Game+.
New Game+ resets ALL your progress except level and skills (it resets all missions, side quests, inventory items, relationships, starships, outposts, exploration progress, discovered Systems/Planets, crewmates etc).
You get a new spaceship at the start of New Game+ and a new armor set that’s not available on the first playthrough.
In New Game+ you will be given dialogue options to completely skip some main missions.
Some dialogues are different, people will react differently to you than before (it’s as though they have never met you), especially while traveling in the NG+ spaceship and wearing the new spacesuit.
Certain main quests are shortened or combined. You will need to collect all Artifacts again but when first visiting The Eye it will mark multiple artifacts right away so you could immediately go for them and skip much of the story. This makes the NG+ playthrough shorter.
Finishing New Game+ starts another cycle where everything resets.
On each playthrough the Artifact Locations are randomized (different for every player on every playthrough). They aren’t in a fixed spot, it’s randomly generated on each playthrough. The available “Landing Sites” you see on planets are also randomly placed on each playthrough (only major cities and some story locations are in fixed places).
If a Companion died or you destroyed a relationship they can be met again and it’s like you never met them, can retry building a relationship.
Finishing a playthrough also wipes out all bounties you had. So if you want, you could go wild at the end of your playthrough and cause some havoc, it all gets reset in the next run and nobody will remember any crimes you did. Before going into NG+ you may want to try the Fastest XP Farming Method for Level 100.

A lot of the gaming press middle aged types like Warren, Schreier and Park are terminally online twitter addicts, they can't shut the fuck up.
why would you say something like on day one?

Despite being a self proclaimed loyal Bethesda fan, Fallout 76 apologist and Todd believer. This is actually gonna be the first time i’ve played a Bethesda game on release.
I clicked the spoilers and it’s hard to see how it relates to Nier Automata but ok. Wouldn’t worry about it guys, for those who think Tom Warren spoiled something big.

The Twitter dopamine is the only meaningful thing that’s left in their lives anyway.
Really dying to know what you guys think of the writing, characters and story. They seem to be a highlight according to quite a few people.
Downloaded the OST and artbook while it finished unpacking. Clicked some tracks at random just to avoid any spoilery track names, and oof...
...Inor Zur's best work since Dragon Age Origins.

Todd’s will was strong, but my eyelids were stronger. Thus I fell asleep at 00:40. Woke up an hour later, refreshed and reinvigorated.
My download finished at 23:00. I’m eager and ready to play. I open up the games library, I’m met with this screen.
Good night, fams. My faith has been tested too much for a single day.

Hopefully I have moved on from the character creator by then.
I swear preset 37 is the Amos stand-in.

It looks very good, although I think the time of day influences it a little. When it's bright and you get few shadows it can look flat. But most of the time so far the lighting and especially the materials are so nice. Kinda incredible coming from Fallout.
The facial hair is also fine. It's not the best I've seen but YT and image compression was definitely killing the finer details. Haven't tried the dlss mod. Just going to wait on more impressions and settings before doing that. Performance's fine so far, but yeah... Heavy.

Spent 2.5 hours on Kreet and landed at New Atlantis. Left with a bunch of Rare items and a broken limb. It's incredible how much better the combat is in this than their other games too.
To change FOV:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Starfield/comments/166x172/how_to_change_fov_confirmed_to_work/
Gonna try this tomorrow.
in Documents/MyGames/Starfield create a text file and name it "StarfieldCustom.ini"
inside the text file, add this:
[Camera]
fFPWorldFOV=100.0000
fTPWorldFOV=100.0000

Yeah, there's tons to do on Kreet even though Vasco wants to get you out of there asap. Killing a lvl 14 space punk for a rare pistol at lvl 2 is great.
Man, I want to pick every skill. Love that your starting skills and specialization actually matters.
And then landing on New Atlantis is like visiting The Citadel for the first time again. We are so back 😭

I would love for you to be m8, but...
It feels more like a slower Fallout than Skyrim. Heck, the setup and locations really make it feel more like a Mass Effect or Kotor. Even though you can really ignore the factions and do your own thing, the gating of the star systems by distance (and ship upgrades) means there's more focus on chasing the stories and faction quests than just stumbling into everything.
Structurally, you can totally ignore the quest markers and do your own thing, but just the distance between planets means it is not as immediate as Skyrim, where as soon as you leave Helgen, you soak in the world and there's always stuff to do every few steps, and you see a cave and you go "I wonder what's in there" and it's instantly accesible. Boarding your ship, and managing your crew and scanning ahead feels more of a commitment to a specific task (I'm playing like this, but you can also pretty much fast travel anywhere).
It seems like they really took to heart some feedback from F4 and focused on building a world that gives more weight to your choices and character build. It's all about giving you avenues to play out certain archetypal fantasies like the dusty space western, or the bounty hunter crave, corporate spy or just explorer and surveyor, and building the story and systems around that, but the amount of different landmasses to traverse is a different vibe from Skyrim where it's just mountains as far as the eye can see.
