By inky Go To PostThat wasn't the point tho. The point is if the game is clearly designed around such limitations, like every other game out there.
Is it a technical obstacle only that not every linear game is open world or a design decision?
Oh come on. This isn’t Skyrim in space if you got loading screens up the wazoo and exploration is menu driven.
Why are you dying on this hill inko? Who cares.
Not that there's anything particularly useful yet (mostly just rReShades) but pretty funny the game already has 10 mods out and it's not publically available.

I get being disappointed that space isn't actually a seamless overworld (overuniverse?) for the dozens of star systems out there and you can't fly from planet to planet etc. but acting like that's the brunt of the exploration is weird.
After some inner turmoil over the previous few hours. I have decided to break my rule of not pre-ordering games. Todd has my full financial support in the shape of the premium edition and I fully intend to play it tonight.
Ngl being more like Mass Effect and The Outer Wilds than NMS makes me excited for this.

By Crusher Go To PostReally? Shit I don’t remember Skyrim then. You don't. Everything is a fucking loading screen. Entering towns, entering any interior, entering any dungeon.

would probably be more enjoyable than the combat
I think faking the scale with shit like wormholes and FTL travel would be far more satisfying than picking planets and landing spots through a menu, even if it's not much different in function
By Crusher Go To PostReally? Shit I don’t remember Skyrim then.Literally every dungeon and house.
That's just a different kind of game. Doing a mission on Elite is docking on a spaceport, checking an excel sheet of space commodities for 45 minutes, stocking up, and spacetrucking a dozen systems away for 1 hour and a half with a podcast in the background, occasionally stopping by a star to scoop up fuel or killing a couple pirates, then docking on another space station to make a 10k profit. Repeat for 300 hours.
Enjoyable when you are in the mood for that, but not really the pacing akin to a beth RPG.

Ask WoW players about flight paths.

From what I’m reading and hearing this game is not quite like previous BGS games, the focus here seems to really be the main story and connected quests. Exploration isn’t really it.
Ironically I might actually like this game more than any other BGS game. Heh.

By NiceGuy Go To PostI don't think I got far enough into Andromeda to leave the starting planet 😎lucky you
Not gotten to the bottom of quite what it entails because knowing means ending spoilers but the NG+ does sound intriguing.
The more I read the more excited I get ngl
Seems like it's the first Beth game where you can't really be jack of all trades, master of every guild by the end. Really lends itself for you to specialize. I always like doing that, but the world not always supports it (in Skyrim you can be Guildmaster of the Mages Guild, Master Thief and everything else with a himbo barbarian who knows 1 spell and can't stealth for shit).
yeah, I'm hearing things but I'll leave it to my playthrough to find out what

Lads, forget the menus and the tiles. Put your trust in Todd.
Todd wouldn’t lie to you.
Todd wouldn’t disappoint you.

What was special about nier
Bit of PC performance stuff here at the time stamp. In short, it's very demanding (think 4090) if you want 4K/60 / Ultra. Good news is there's no shader stutter.
By Smokey Go To PostWhat does this meanThe game's story is based on progression via multiple playtrhoughs with each new game+ changing the playable character and perspective.

It's more or less exactly what I expected it to be, which isn't good news for me. It's no doubt a big achievement for Bethesda, most of what's there seems to be very solid and well thought out, the missions, the ship customizations, the character progression ...
It's just not what I've come to like about space games from before and after my time with Star Citizen, which is a strong focus on skillful space flight & combat and a fully (physically) simulated universe. With all the limitations and jank that comes from even attempting such a thing at the required scale, so it's perfectly understandable why Bethesda chose to play it like they did.
i don't know, in the end I guess I'm just not into Bethesda games. I've never managed to fully gel with one of their core games, even the ones I finished and liked. Looking forward to reading you guys' impressions, maybe in 6 months I'll get the itch. Although I said the same thing about Skyrim ...
I LOVED Skyrim - had one 400 hour save on it. But never got into the Fallouts. Too empty and desolate to look at for me, Clive.

Is that with FSR or native pixels? Maybe the 3080ti + DLSS mod will be good enough for 1440 ultrawide at ultra
By JesalR Go To PostIs that with FSR or native pixels? Maybe the 3080ti + DLSS mod will be good enough for 1440 ultrawide at ultraIf it’s anything like Bethesda’s other games, just don’t play on ultra.
Shadow detail and draw distance especially, both absolutely hammered the frame rate in Fallout 4. Pretty sure god rays did too.

Yeah that's with FSR2 quality mode.

You're making me nostalgic for both Fallout 4 and Skyrim's release weeks.
Seems like one issue is that there's no way to change FOV atm, including the usual work arounds on Creation Engine.

once you finish it enough times, it reveals todds real height to you.
The Creation engine should have been dumped at Fallout 4.
but they keep it around because it allows the modding community to complete their games for them.

There is extremely tiny like Koksal Baba, hasbullah and Beetlejuice. Sensational.
Then there is just regular tiny like WillKiller, Lisandro Martinez and Tom Cruise. Bad.

The engine gets far too much flack imo. Same used to happen with Call of Duty since the engine it used was based on the Quake III engine iirc.
I wish they could do ladders though, ngl.

By Smokey Go To PostWhat does this meanThe “ending” of nier is like the end of the first act. Second time you play it is a different perspective that plays differently and adds to the story. The third time you play it is actually a sequel to the first 2 play throughs and further expands/completes the story.
