My biggest gripe with Divinity was how it was never clear how seriously it wanted to be taken along with how they expected you to abuse every mechanic in the game right out the gate.

Meanwhile, Fighters and Rogues and shit are like “I can hit you really hard! If I can find you. And reach you. And you aren’t paying attention to me. And don’t have any spell slots left.”
Speaking of, another reason casters are really powerful is that they can pick a combination of spells that would allow them to target potentially all six saves (or possibly bypass saves completely). Meanwhile, martial characters can maybe target three (but really only one or two).
Wonder if they thought about detaching from the tabletop game and basically stretching the 12 levels across 20 or so, and a scattering the significant upgrades a bit to account for it.
Cap needs to be low enough that levelling feels like a game changer of sorts from beginning to end, but 12 does sound quite low. Hopefully the cap is reached early enough that you get some decent time at max level, doesn't seem like a game that would suffer too much if you hit it well before finishing either unlike a Diablo either.

Have there been any significant balance/UI patches yet? Read that they intend the PS5 version to be up to speed for that stuff when it comes out but not read much about fixes so far besides performance drops, quest bugs and the version number under the minimap.
Was surprised to hear that you can't see the class levelling path from 1 to 12 when you pick it, the way you do in WotR. Personally not for me as I like to play it by ear unless the character has just one specialty, but I know a lot of people plan their entire builds in advance. Guess it's all easily viewable on wikis anyway.

Hotfix #4 came out today I think and there's a huge patch planned for next week ish.

FYI, I've seen some class builds on Reddit for making a Monk multiclass and it looks RIDICULOUS.
The problem is getting there and finding the right items (most items are found late act2 / early act3) and you need atleast lvl 8-9 to get there.
But 4-6 attacks with stun/psy/shock damage totaling 100+ dps is pretty sweet.
Might try it for my third playthrough.
