Took a couple of days off work to be able to play in total serenity. It's all I think about, haven't been this engrossed in a long while.

Eurogamer's tier list. Kibner will have final say
I'd rather make a most interesting tier list tbh

Paladin
Bard
Cleric
Sorcerer
Wizard
Barbarian

Vampire Survivors like. Or some Jagged Alliance 3?
By NiceGuy Go To PostTempted to still go Ranger just to see how much worse it isI'm an Archer Bard with a Rapier for close encounters.
And I just want an archer in the party
There's some great bows in the game but the melee weapons so far outclass them all the time.
I just bought a bow +3 Enchantment 7-15 dmg, Necrotic damage, resistances etc.., +1 attack etc... Do about 10 + 1-2 necrotic damage per attack.
Laezel found a Trident (legendary) and she does 30+ dmg per hit and it has 2 special attacks.
Her green sword did about 20 dmg.
By C4-621 Go To PostEurogamer's tier list. Kibner will have final sayI shamefully rerolled a Pally because knocking heads is how i play and I wanted charisma based. My Bard was cool probably would have liked him more if I didn't make a dragonborn because they don't emote for shit and it kinda ruins the smoothtalker mood.

Early game warlocks look fun in my short MP play with my friend. He was a warlock. Dont know what I would play in my 2nd run tho
By C4-621 Go To PostEurogamer's tier list. Kibner will have final sayA terrible list, imo. Any kind of ranking list should probably have Bard at the very top and Ranger at the very bottom.

My rough tier list from knowledge about the tabletop game:
Bard > full spellcasters (Cleric, Sorcerer, Wizard, Warlock, Druid) >>> Paladin, Fighter > Rogue, Barbarian > Monk >>>>> Ranger
Bard is the best hybrid class, full-stop. Access to lots of powerful spells and cantrips, and can do ok on their own in martial combat.
Full spellcasters have access to all the strongest spells in the game. Spells are the most reliable way to neuter or sidestep encounters. Druid can also be the best tank in the game. Otherwise, allowing something to hit you is your fault.
Paladin has the best and most reliable burst damage in the game (through on-hit effects/spells, iirc) and Fighter has the best sustained damage (melee or ranged). Paladin does offer more utility with their spells, but Fighter's Superiority Dice can be pretty powerful. They are also beefy, so they can stay in range of their best abilities. Or Fighter could just be the best ranged dps in the game, along with Warlock.
Rogue has some good out-of-combat skills, but a spellcaster can make that part of their kit obsolete. They can output great damage, but it is conditional and not always possible on any given turn. They are also squishy. Barbarian is the second-best tank in the game but is not versatile at all.
Monk can put out a lot of stuns but is a MAD (multiple-ability dependent) character, so getting them all the stats they need to maybe be on par at fighting as a Fighter is silly. They don't offer much else outside of those stuns.
Ranger doesn't do anything better than other classes other than having a permanent animal companion. All their special stuff makes them stronger, but only in very specific situations which are generally uncommon. Also, that "buffed" strength doesn't really make them much more effective in combat than a generic Fighter.
That article overvalues healing, imo. If you have to spend a capital-A Action healing, you already fucked up. Damage far outpaces combat healing in this game. The best "healing" tier list: disabling or killing enemies quickly >>> debuffing enemies' attacks or buffing allies' defenses >>> Bonus Action heals >>>>> Action heals.
Oh, I guess there is also multi-classing, but 5e did a lot to neuter that. Especially the super popular and effective one level dip into Fighter for armor and weapon proficiencies.
e: FYI, 5e was originally designed with the current level 3 intended to be level 1. So, yeah, that also weakens multi-classing because you nearly always can't just dip in for a single level.

Preaching about healing.
Never let the enemy play whenever possible. If you gotta set the table during combat you're behind already.

Is using turn-based mode to manipulate the start of combat encounters not as powerful as it sounds? Same goes for shove as a bonus action.
Heard quite a lot about the latter in particular making the early access too easy, but nothing since the full release

Even the lowliest enemies in this game have decked out kits full of bullshittery. You take every advantage you can get

FYI, the most effective ability build for every class (except Monk) is the primary ability at every chance you get since it affects everything the class does, and then either CON (for health) or DEX (for initiative and potentially AC, depending on armor).
Again, Monk is a MAD class, so they need, like WIS and DEX both to be as high as other classes' "primary" abilities, iirc.

Honestly, the difficulty seems to be in a really comfortable place compared to other games in the genre. Haven't felt the urge to min max anything even in Tactical. Even with Ranger.
By Lupercal Go To PostI remember that game, that game was such bullshit at times. There is a good reason for that, tbh. Some history:
I don't remember if I mentioned it here or not, but D&D was born out of traditional tabletop wargames. As such, they wanted to have D&D tournaments, just like the wargames it was based off of. How to do that? Well, there were two different ways:
1) rank parties by how much gold value they bring back in a single trip to a pre-defined dungeon
2) rank parties by how far they got into a pre-defined dungeon
Temple of Elemental Evil is an instance of #2. It was designed to kill parties as early as possible. It was never really meant to be something a group of casual D&D fans would play. It was only designed as a competitive objective in a D&D tournament.

Yeah, that's one option. The other option is you leave the cave covered in blood after you just committed genocide.
Then there's another option where you fumbled your way into trouble, fumbled your way out of it, then came out wondering what the fuck just happened and where the last 3 hours went.
That's the thing about this game, not that there's interesting thing everywhere, but that it can go a dozen different ways depending on who you bring, who you are and how you act, how you roll. It's insane.
Found that about Monk the farther I went, Kibs. Going Dark Urge was a bit if disaster because I really wasn't in control, literally and figuratively. Often found myself stranded in the middle of fights like, now what.
Still a very cool class to play imo, but I need more experience for it.
This was kinda broken, but now that sneak is only a bonus action for Rogues, only they can abuse it.
But activating turn based is a completely valid strategy. If you are not splittingand positioning before every conversation you are doing it wrong.
I'm enjoying Warlock a lot. It relies too much on eldritch blast, but it's also a versatile class moving in and out if range. And it's good main character for the charisma checks. And I get to leave Wyll in the camp all day.

By NiceGuy Go To PostIs using turn-based mode to manipulate the start of combat encounters not as powerful as it sounds? Same goes for shove as a bonus action. There is one thing with early access that I guess people are not talking about. In EA, sneak was also a bonus action, not a full action, so every turn (and every class basically) you could try go into stealth, and if the check was successful you basically have a free advantage attack).

Finally got a good session in tonight. I cleared the goblin camp a little by trickery but mostly by brute force. I ran into a weird bug when I killed the last leader that made me have to roll back my save. It seems that Haslin doesn't approve of the Ogre buddies I summoned for the last battle, and as soon as we cleared the room he attacked us. Luckily the battle wasn't as hard as I thought and redid it without them. Not sure if that was by design or some weird one time fuckery. It went to the cut scene ans he was praising us then he started wilding lol

Loving Druid. I got 2 level 4 spell summons when hitting 7, one being a dryad, who has a passive aura nullifying all terrain effects, has 2 AoE control spells, her own summoned tree boi, who also has it's own AoE denial spells, which heals 10hp every turn if standing in entangling vines.

Welcome to why the Druid is OP. lol
Getting summons that have their own spells is a ridiculous power spike. Level 7 is also alt when casters start to very noticeably outshine martials.
