Wonder how many quests break when you do stuff like that, and if they have a team on the look-out for it
By Laboured Go To PostAssume you know it's not SP but have no one to co-op with?We tried playing Divinity:OS together and bounced off it.
Went with a Half Wood Elf Bard.
Why are the guards from the Tower of Latria putting leaches in my eye? I wasn’t expecting body horror in the first 5 minutes.
Game has run flawlessly on the steam deck for the first two hours for me btw.

Well, made 3 characters so far:
Dragonborn Monk with the Dark Urge background
Tiefling Warlock criminal
Half-Orc Shaman Outlander
thought about another half a dozen characters I could create too...
... but will probably stick with the monk and struggle about picking the nasty choices all the way.

Can anyone recommend me a video of what a tabletop D&D campaign looks like from the beginning?
Whenever I've seen a bit of a tabletop RPG, the character sheets have already been made, the genre has been uninteresting to me, and the players clearly haven't really been into it.
Never got a grasp of how the characters are made from the ground level or how rigid the campaigns are.
Karmic dice sounds like a pretty silly mechanic, will be turning it off asap.

By NiceGuy Go To PostCan anyone recommend me a video of what a tabletop D&D campaign looks like from the beginning? No, not really. The people who do the entertaining live plays are playing the game in specific ways to make it more entertaining to watch. Usually by not really following the rules as written.

In general, tabletop rpg’s are improv games at their heart. They just also happen to have rules and systems for other things to make them more gamey.
Character creation varies by rule set. I’ve played some games that do RNG sheets that can be done in a couple minutes, minimal designs which can be done in seconds, and more complex ones that take hours.
There are also a million different genres. Think of a story telling genre and there is a tabletop game for it.
As far as DND goes, the current version is 5e and it… is about average for a system, overall. It does a little of everything but none of it particularly well, has contradicting, vague, or missing rules, but has a ton of material out there so you can always find something new to read.
As far as campaigns go, they run the gamut of being the equivalent of linear, corridor shooter to something as open as Second Life or Minecraft. Many people run their own campaigns and make up most of it as they go, depending on player choices/actions.
These kinds of games are fun to play as a kind of hangout and bullshit within friends activity.
I will say that if you want to see if you like the rp’ing part of play or want to get better at improv with friends, The Fall of Magic is a great place to start: https://heartofthedeernicorn.com/product/fall-of-magic-revised-edition/?v=7516fd43adaa
Oh, one last note about DND, specifically. It has one of the largest rulesets you will find in the tabletop world. 95% off other tabletop rpg systems are vastly lighter, usually because they focus on a specific genre or type of gameplay instead of trying to be everything to everyone.
My sexy Drow bard Lady has been smooth talking everyone around here, even got some money out of it. Wonder if I'll be underleveled if I keep it up, always went for the sword in EA.
The buffs she can do in combat are pretty insane though. Advantage for some, disadvantage for others making Kodos proud.
Game runs smooth as hell with everything on max.

Cheers Kibner, I'll see if I can find a tutorial video for DMs or something just to give me an idea of how the prep works. The days of me knowing enough people to play it myself are long gone unfortunately, just something I'd like to prod at a bit.
You can't collect and sell a load of trash to break the economy in this can you? I know there are merchants in the game but not sure how important they are for gear, scrolls or camp supplies. If there even are scrolls in the game, spells sound so encounter-changing that they could be a bit op
People seem very pleased with the controller support, interested to see how the wheel works as opposed to hotbars. Moving things around on the bars is easily the worst thing about CRPGs on console in my experience. Worries about the moved release leading to egregious quest-ruinung bugs and glitches seem.unfounded so far, small chance that they'll raise their head as people get further into the game though. Wonder if scored and final review releases will be all over the place, some might not even finish it for a long time.
Kinda wanna watch a play through of BG1 and 2 but they just look too dated for me

You can pickup everything you find and sell it to merchants sure, but they don't provide mega bucks.
You can always steal it if you reaaaally want it.

They really nail the aesthetics of 'what it would look like if those prerendered backgrounds of the old games had to be made in 3d'

Ok went with a bard but Dragonsborn. The new system doesn't seem to matter what race you are. Something about a giant lizard bard that's appealing.
Anyways got out the first area. Seems pretty awesome so far.
I love how the narration feels like a GM speaking to you.

aww yiss animal forms have their own hp pool and when you run out, you just go back to being human with your pre-shape HP. Basically an extra 2 lives as you can shape-shift twice per short rest lol.

This is a good book to understand what I mean: https://shop.slyflourish.com/products/return-of-the-lazy-dungeon-master
The previous book is now free, but not as refined as the other one I linked: https://slyflourish.com/the_lazy_dungeon_master_cc.html
The author also has some youtube playlists that seem useful. Here are the generic and D&D specific ones I think might be interesting to you:
For a DnD campaign, there's plenty of people doing it with Roll20 / Tabletop Simulator.
Even on Reddit there's people actively looking for groups and vice versa.
Kibner's links are all great.

Kibner thanks very much for all these knowledge drops. Very informative.
I've only played a little bit of DnD and TTRPGs in general, but 5e seems a bit more fast and loose with its rules than other editions or Pathfinder.

By Cleff Go To PostKibner thanks very much for all these knowledge drops. Very informative.Aye. 1E is probably the most interesting to look at nowadays. It was actually "designed" to be played as a competitive kind of game. There would be an adventure and the goal was to bring out as much treasure from the dungeon as possible. The gold value you brought out was converted directly into XP. That's why, until 4e, there were many things that cost XP to buy/make.

4e easily has the best combat system of the group (though it bogged down later on with reactions; wish we had an edition that cleaned that up a bit)
5e is probably the easiest to play today
3e was the first try at actually being a game designer
1e and 2e are both odd ducks nowadays but are where nearly all the DnD memes of the past 40 years come from
PF 1e was D&D 3e by a third party because the 4e licensing environment was horseshit
PF 2e is an actual good game and a solid evolution of the D&D 3e system (mostly by aping a lot of 4e's combat improvements and changing some other things to be more like modern design in order to better support non-combat play)
e: I try not to talk about 5e too much because a lot of people love it but I think it is a huge step backwards with class balance, combat tactics, and way too much "ask your GM" moments. Nowadays, I try to pick a system that fits the kind of game that I want to play instead of just defaulting to D&D.
Kib helping Cleffy is the best combo.

By Lupercal Go To PostAhhh.... the entire "General Notes" section is triggering to me.
Y'all, most table top games are far simpler than 5e. Despite 5e combat being simpler than 3e and 4e, it is still more crunchy than 95% of all games out there, and has the page count to match.
Please don't let this complexity put anyone off from actually trying out tabletop games!
They explain it well enough but it still is complexes with all it's checks and balances.
After a few hours, most will be with the combat enough I think.
When playing D:OS 2 for the first time, it was also a bit of a trip seeing all the possibilities lol.
Gone are the days of simple Baldur's Gate & Neverwinter, now there's an entire sandbox.
I am halfway a Call of Chtulhu campaign, thankfully our GM is a kind one.

A minor annoyance in the grand scheme of bugs, but I hope one of these hotfixes removes the game version being displayed during cutscenes.
unforgiving? as far as I read, they just dont recommend it cause it ... takes control away from you, with some choices.

They confirmed yesterday that they're fixing the version number being on screen at all times, weird that it got through. Even when I watched early access footage I thought it was a bit odd seeing it under the minimap
