By Sharp Go To PostNormally I hesitate to just blame the coach for everything but it is actually very weird that he didn't adjust better to the FIBA ruleset… like everyone talked before the tournament started about how important guys like Kessler are in international play.
They been getting their wigs pushed in on the glass and he never experimented with bigger lineups to try and clean up that obvious weakness. It was Larry Brown type coaching where the system is the system and it's gonna be the system regardless of what the other team is doing. Black Bargnani was just embarrassing all tournament on the glass too, think he finished at like 2.9 rebounds per game.
Defense fell apart without Ingram. 90 points given up in 30 minutes and it wasn’t exactly like Germany was making a bunch of well-defended 3s.

So many centuries summarized in one post
Not shocked about the US loss. That will become pretty common in this era. The US is finally getting hit with a bit of a bum era in terms of generational talent, which came in unabated between the inception of pro hoops all the way through the 2010's. I'm not seeing the MJ and Bird -> Kobe and Duncan -> LeBron and KD baton hand off yet. Straight top 10 all time type of talents--I'm not seeing any of that in anyone drafted in the last 5 years or so. Tatum and Morant leading the pack so far and that's a huge drop.
By DY_nasty Go To PostThey got bodied by Theiss nothing generational required
The difference between Theiss and most American bigs are mostly negated without NBA whistles based on rep lol.
Its really not though. The space eaters and rebounders just don't get highlighted by coaches in love with the 'unique' skill sets and playstyles.
Team USA simply appreciating what guys like Kessler or even Nic Claxton do means they're not reliant on some JJJ/Bridges/Hart defensive concept that looks absolutely enthralling when playing in their bubble or echo chamber.
I shit on Trae plenty, but Team USA thinking they're above recruiting clear talent to target a particular playstyle speaks to the problem clearer than ever now. The style is a shitty copy of international ball without understanding whats important or why.

Four of the five best players in the league aren’t American. That must be pretty wild.

And 3 of those 4 you're mentioning aren't even playing in the FIBA tournament.

Oh yeah, no excuse. They should have won.
Makes all the world champ stuff from a few weeks ago even funnier.
DPOY looking helpless against Daniel Theis is an embarrassment and should be a wake-up call.
Might be a hot take, but it's beginning to look like America has limited understanding of basketball these days. This age of coddled stars, superstar whistles, and tv ratings have absolutely fucked us. You can get away with that shit in the NBA if you play for a big market, but FIBA doesn't care if you play in LA or Miami.
Doesn't matter if we didn't send out our "a-team" because we shouldn't be losing to Dennis Schroder, Daniel Theis, and Andreas Obst.

By n8 dogg Go To PostOh yeah, no excuse. They should have won.It really doesn't because was a single Top 15 American player on this roster? Maybe Ant ... but.

I'm not making excuses for the USA but this was a badly constructed roster without their best available talent. That doesn't make the rest of the world better today.

Whatever's happening now has always happened, for better or worse, across many strong coaches. Bigs have not been used properly in international hoops for USA since maybe the Dream Team? For whatever reason, we always go small. I'm not going to say I know better than K, Kerr, Pop. There's definitely a disconnect there.
There's a difference between going "small" when you're playing the likes of Lebron, Green, Durant, Dwight, et al in their prime at the 4/5 versus whatever this team has

Nah, we not letting Kerr off the hook here. Team USA been getting smoked on the glass since they started playing and he didn't play Jackson and Kessler together for a single minute. Montenegro cleaned the glass against them, that should have been the sign to go bigger. Kessler getting benched like that is so dumb since he was such a good player last season.
Plus he named his son Nick, I don't rock with him off gp.
By DY_nasty Go To PostJackson didn't even average 3 boards a game 😭Hart lead the team no?

This is why Steph is the greatest, he's had to deal with Kerr sandbagging him

Meh. If you're gonna do this meme, at least do it with Scoot, Cronin, Dame. Surprised I haven't seen it already TBH.
