This summer was about teaching him about the importance of training and to take it seriously which he did, he used to try and cheat and finish reps lazy or something halfway and I told him you're not cheating me, you're only cheating yourself in the long run. That really registered with him more than anything else, but he's 12 so I don't go overboard.

It's not that hard once they see results, they start to listen more, he wants to do more plyometrics now cause he's been dunking on an 8 foot rim like Vince Carter and can almost touch 9 foot rim. His older brother is 14 and never ever complains about a workout, he just does it so that makes it much easier since he wants to keep up. I try to keep most of his basketball workouts like game situations, we do a 20-30 min warmup of fundamentals shooting, dribbling, passing then we do pretty much all game situation drills where I'm the active defender or help defender for him. To keep him having fun play around the world, horse, or he plays me 1 on 1 at the end which he wants to do every workout. If he's tired from plyometrics the day before we just light shooting drills, or throw the football around.
You just learn as you go. If I have a son/daughter with a tall woman they're league bound just cause I know what to do from the start (2 ball dribbling at like 5).
